Bengaluru, Oct 8: Karnataka BJP president B S Yeddyurappa Monday rubbished reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the state, terming it "far from the truth".

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates for the November 3 assembly and parliamentary by-polls in the state will be finalised at the party's core committee meeting on Wednesday.

"All this is far from the truth, unnecessarily such news is being spread. There is no substance in it," the former chief minister told reporters in response to a question about Modi contesting from Karnataka.

There were reports in certain sections of the local media that with an aim to increase BJP's influence in the South, Modi was likely to contest from one of the southern states, most probably from Karnataka along with Varanasi, the seat that he currently represents.

BJP is presently not in power in any of the south Indian states.

Karnataka is the only state where the party has considerable presence and has had its government in the past.

Yeddyurappa, who has been meeting several party leaders regarding finalising candidates for the Lok Sabha and assembly by-election, ssaid it would be finalised by Wednesday.

"Day after tomorrow (Wednesday) evening, we have called a core committee meeting where we will finalise our candidates for the three Lok Sabha constituencies and two Vidhan Sabha constituencies and send it to our national president for approval," he said.

Discussions have taken place about candidates for almost all constituencies that would go for the by-polls, the BJP leader said, adding, "We will hold further discussions today and tomorrow before finalising the names".

The Election Commission on Saturday had announced the bye-elections in three Lok Sabha constituencies (Shivamogga, Ballari and Mandya) and two assembly constituencies (Ramanagara and Jamkhandi). The elections will be held on November 3 and counting of votes will take place on November 6.

The by-elections had been necessitated after BJPs B S Yeddyurappa (Shivamogga) and B Sriramalu (Ballari), and C S Puttaraju of JD(S) (Mandya) resigned as MPs on their election to the assembly in May last.

Bypolls to Jamkhandi assembly seat was necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Siddu Nyamagouda, while Ramanagara fell vacant as Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy gave up the seat and retained Channapatna, the other segment won by him in the assembly elections. (PTI)

New Delhi, May 21: The BJP on Monday demanded an apology from Congress for spreading 'fake tapes' on May 18 and 19 that the saffron party leaders tried to bribe the grand old party's legislators before the crucial trial of strength in Karnataka Assembly.
"Now that the Congress leaders are themselves admitting that the bribery charge was wrong, it vindicates BJP stand and exposes Congress desperation that after losing power they resorted to all sorts of games to grab power in Karnataka," BJP spokesman Sambit Patra told a television channel.
"Of course, Congress should apologise," he said.
The remarks come close on the heels Congress legislator from Yellapur, Shivaram Hebbar dismissed the tape conversation between BJP leaders and his wife.
"This is not my wife's voice and she has not received any such calls," Mr Hebbar wrote on Facebook. "I condemn those who released this fake tape to further their political interests".
Congress leader V S Ugrappa had released the audio on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesman Mr Patra said: "BJP never tried horse trading, had that been the case the result of floor test would have been different".
BJP leaders say the government of B S Yeddyurappa could have survived just by managing seven legislators.
Congress MP B K Hariprasad also said the tapes could be fake.
Four such tapes were released and one even claimed that one of those had the voice of former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa also. UNI

Bengaluru, May 19: Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, B Sriramulu (BJP) and C S Puttaraju (JD-S) have tendered their resignation to Lok Sabha membership following their election to the 15th Karnataka Legislative Assembly in the polls on May 12.
While Mr Yeddyurappa was elected from Shikaripura Assembly constituency in Shivamogga District, Mr Sriramulu was elected from Molakalmur in Bagalkote District (both BJP), Mr Puttaraju (JD-S) was elected from Mandya Constituency.
Mr Yeddyurappa, who has already taken Oath of Office and Secrecy on May 17 as Chief Minister was the first person to take Oath as Member of Legislative Assembly today. Later Mr Sriramulu and Mr Puttaraju took oath as MLAs. Protem Speaker K G Bopaiah administered them the Oath.
They had to resign their lok sabha seats before taking oath in the State Assembly. UNI

New Delhi, May 18: Terming the Supreme Court order directing the B S Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka to hold the floor test on Saturday as a vindication of the Congress stand that the Governor acted unconstitutionally, party president Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the BJP bluff has been called by the court.
Mr Gandhi, however, voiced fear that the BJP will now try money and muscle, to steal the mandate.
'Today’s Supreme Court order, vindicates our stand that Governor Vala acted unconstitutionally. The BJP’s bluff that it will form the Govt., even without the numbers, has been called out by the court.

Bengaluru, May 18: Karnataka Assembly will meet at 11.00 AM tomorrow to take7 up the vote of confidence of the BJP government led by B S Yeddyurappa.
Addressing newsmen after an emergency cabinet meeting here on Friday, Mr Yeddyurappa said that the cabinet has decided to recommend to the Governor to convene Session of the Assembly following the Supreme Court direction to the BJP to prove its majority on Saturday.
He said 'I am 100 per cent confident that I will prove my majority'.
He said he had also asked all the elected MLAs who have returned to their respective constituencies, after swearing in ceremony, to return to the city and meet at the Party headquarters in the city this evening. UNI

Bengaluru, May 18: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday expressed confidence over proving majority on the floor of the Assembly tomorrow.
Welcoming the Supreme Court direction to prove the majority tomorrow by 4 pm, Mr Yeddyurappa told newsmen here that "I am holding a cabinet meeting and will ask Chief Secretary to make preparation for convening Assembly session tomorrow and I am confident of proving majority."
According to sources by evening the Governor may announce appointment of pro-term Speaker and it will be followed by administering Oath to newly elected MLAs. Senior Congress leader and former Minister R V Deshpande and BJP leader and former Minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri's names are floating for appointment as the Pro-term Speaker.
Former Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy, welcoming the Supreme Court decision, told newsmen that "they (BJP) cannot prove the majority since they did not have the required number and if he (Mr Yeddyurappa) has any morality should resign immediately as the Apex Court has nullified his appointment and rejected more time sought to prove the majority so that they have ample time for indulging in horse trading."
Union Minister and BJP incharge of Karnataka election, Prakash Javdekar, who is camping in the State capital since last four months, has expressed his confidence of Mr Yeddyurappa proving the majority tomorrow. In twitter he said that "we will prove the majority."
Meanwhile the Congress held a massive 'Raj Bhavan Chalo' rally in protest against Governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to ask BJP to form the government. Among those who walked from the KPCC office to the Raj Bhavan included AICC observers Gulam Nabi Azad, Ashok Ghelot, Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Bengaluru, May 16: Bharatiya Janata Party Legislature Party which met here on Wednesday elected Mr B S Yeddyurappa as its leader and immediately the party leaders met Governor Vajubhai Vala and staked claim to form the next government in Karnataka.
BJP had emerged as single largest party with 104 MLAs after Assembly election was held for 222 seats on May 12 but still fell short of 7 seats to form the Government.
However, Mr Yeddyurappa who submitted the list of 104 legislators to the Governor, said the party would be able to form the government with the support from outside and requested him to invite him to form the new government.
The BJPLP meeting which was held at the BJP state headquarters here this morning lasted just 10 minutes with a single point agenda of electing its LP leader. Immediately after that Mr Yeddyurappa along with other BJP leaders like party-in charges Prakash Javdekar, P Muralidhar Rao and others met the Governor and submitted the list of the BJP legislators.
Party sources said that Mr Yeddyurappa had urged Mr Vala to give first preference to the BJP as it was the largest party in the Assembly which will be constituted soon.
After counting was taken up yesterday, BJP had emerged as the single largest party with 104 members, followed by Congress 78 and Janata Dal (S) 38 and two independents.
Speaking before the BJPLP meeting Union Minister Anant Kumar said that BJP had emerged as the single largest party while Congress had been rejected by the people and Janata Dal (S) emerging a distant third behind BJP.
The party expects that it was invited to form the government first as it had the people’s mandate.
BJP Karnataka unit General Secretary Shobha Karandlaje said that BJP was in a position to form the next government and being the largest party it would be invited first by the Governor.
‘’Congress is trying to make a backdoor entry to gain power and loot the state. People fed up with its corrupt rule had rejected it in this election. We will not allow this,’’ she said.
Sources said Mr Yeddyurappa had sought at least 10 days time with the governor to enable him to prove the majority.
Yesterday leaders of all the major three political parties had met the Governor to stake claim to form the government. Congress had offered unconditional support to JD(S) to form the new government. UNI

Bengaluru, Nov 2: Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah today launched the ambitious 'Nava Karnataka Parivarthana Yatra',aimed at recapturing power in the state and ensure defeat of Congress party in the major state where it rules in the country.
Speaking before launching the yatra, Mr Shah gave a clarion call to the BJP workers to go to every corner of the State to highlight the failures of the 'corrupt' Congress Government in the state headed by Mr Siddaramaiah, ensure that BJP wrest power in the 2018 Assembly poll
and Mr B S Yeddyurappa be installed as the Chief Minister again.
The Parivartana Yatra will traverse for a record 7500 km across the length and breadth of Karnataka covering more than 7500 km for the next 80 days with the BJP making a final push to recapture power in the state, where it had first gained majority in 2008 making advent for the first time in South India. After a turbulent tenure for five years that witnessed three Chief Ministers, BJP had lost to Congress in 2013. Mr Shah slammed the Siddaramaiah government of earning a dubious distinction of becoming the top most corrupt state in the country,
according to a recent National Survey, and alleged that it had failed to utilise record grants made to the States by the Narendra Modi government under various schemes.
He also accused the Congress government of appeasing the minority to gain 'vote bank', saying that Rajyotsava or state formation day held on November 1 in Karnataka became less important for the Siddaramaiah government than the Tipu Jayanti that it wants to celebrate with much more fanfare on November 10. 'This Congress government has scant respect for the majority
people of Karnataka but want to celebrate Tipu Jayanti against the popular sentiments. It remained a mute spectator to killing of 19 BJP (and RSS) workers during the last four years, against the sentiments of the majority,' he alleged. UNI

Bengaluru, Aug 18 :  Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa is in fresh trouble with the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) filing two more FIRs against him in connection with denotification of land during his tenure as Chief Minister. Four officials of the Urban Development Department have also named in the First Information Report (FIRs) by the ACB. According to sources the FIRs were registered under the Prevention of Corruoption Act sections 7, 8, 13(1)(c)(d) and IPC sections 406, 420 and 120 (B). The FIRs were filed following a complaint by former Vice Chancellor of a private University Dr D Ayappa who has alleged that Mr Yeddyurappa during his tenure passed 20 orders to denotify land acquired for Dr Shivarama Karanth Layout in the Bengaluru city. It was alleged that Mr Yeddyurappa misused his office and denotified 257 acre and 20.5 Gunte of land acquired without taking approval from the Denotification Committee. The officials whose names were named in the FIRs included Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) Special Land Acquisition Officer Basavarajendra, his Principal Secretary Subir Harisingh, Assistant Commissioner S N Gowrishankar, Assistant Secretary Basavaraju, according to a release by ACB here today. It may be recalled here that denotification issues became a nightmare to Mr Yeddyurappa and in one such case he was forced to stepdown from Chief Minister post and serve jail term for about one month.
