SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 04:  The first Sports Festival of the Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) was inaugurated by the Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Sheikh Javid Ahmed, at Government College for Women M. A. Road, Srinagar.
The festival shall run for five days and culminate with the Prize Distribution Ceremony scheduled for October 10, 2017, at Government College for Women, M. A. Road, Srinagar.
Both Girls and Boys teams from the five Constituent Colleges of the University are fighting for honors in games including Cricket, Football, Volley Ball, Table Tennis, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi and Tug of War.
The University has decided to felicitate award winning as well as to runners-up teams of all games and certificates of participation also distributed among the students representing their Colleges in various games.
On an inaugural day, competitions in Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton were conducted.

The Cluster University Srinagar has been established in the year 2016 with the financial assistance of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of RUSA of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and has started to function from March 2017. The University has its five Constituent Colleges like S. P. College, Amar Singh College, Government College for Women M. A. Road, Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College Bemina and Institute of Advanced Studies in Education M. A. Road, Srinagar.

‘Cluster University to organize more such workshops in future’
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 27: Government College for Women, M.A Road Srinagar in collaboration with Cluster University Srinagar today organized a 2-day National Workshop on Advances in Cell and Molecular Biology.
The chief guest on the occasion, Dr Sheikh Javaid, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University, Srinagar, said the world is witnessing changes in terms of understanding of science and these workshop will help  the students to understand the basic knowledge outside their laboratories and classrooms.
“These workshops provide them platform to think beyond theoretical Knowledge,” Dr Javaid said. “Here they can express their view points and it will help them to go for further research.” In next three months, the chief guest said Cluster University will also organise more such types of fully-funded workshops.
During the function, Director Colleges, Prof. Tibetbaqal, said the workshop will provide platform for the students to learn about the advances in cell and molecular biology as the eminent scientists and scholars will share their knowledge and research with the students.
During her welcome address, Prof. Shaheen Altaf welcomed all the participants, scholars and guests. “Women’s College, M.A Road has always been at the forefront in terms of academics and will not leave any stone unturned to provide knowledge through various workshops or any other techniques of modern times,” Prof. Altaf said.
At the end of the function, a Newsletter titled Souvenir was launched.

Take stock of construction works in constituent institutions
SRINAGAR, JUNE 15: Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari accompanied by Minister for Public Works (R&B) Naeem Akhtar today conducted extensive tour of constituent colleges of Cluster University Srinagar and reviewed the ongoing construction works being carried under Rashtriya Uchchattar Shikhsha Abhiyan (RUSA).
The Ministers were accompanied by Dr Asghar Samoon Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Prof Sheikh Javid Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Chief Engineer PWD Kashmir and other senior officers of department of higher education and public works departments.
The Ministers took stock of ongoing works at Government College for Women MA Road Srinagar, SP College Srinagar, College of Education Srinagar, A S College and GDC Bemina.
The joint tour kick started from Women’s College, M A Road where the construction of School of Engineering Technology and Computer Technology is underway.
The ministers were informed that the construction work on the buildings will be completed by March 2018 at the revised cost of Rs 476.77 lakh. The construction of classrooms at the cost of Rs 471.93 lakh will be completed too by the same time.
The Minister for Education directed the officers of the executing agency--R&B department to speed up the pace of work and complete all the construction works taken under RUSA within the given time frame.
On his visit to S P College, the Minister for Education reviewed the construction of Auditorium being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 544.33 Lakh and construction of classrooms with the project cost of Rs 471.93 lakh.
Bukhari was informed that both the projects will be completed by March 2018. However the construction of Canteen/ Cafeteria, Toilet shall be completed by September 2017 at the estimated cost of Rs 45.04 lakh.
The construction work of School of Teacher Education block and construction of Canteen/Cafeteria, Toilet Block and Miscellaneous at Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (College of Education), M.A Road will be completed by September 2017 at the estimated cost of Rs 308.95 lakh.
On his visit to Amar Singh College, Bukhari observed that there was low progress in the construction. Five blocks including Admin Block, VC’s Office, Humanities block, classrooms, Canteen, Toilet and Central Library blocks are currently under construction under RUSA. He directed the concerned officers to gear up and complete their target within the stipulated timeframe.
At Government Degree College Bemina, the minister reviewed the construction of Hostel Building, Classrooms block, School of Social Science block and Canteen, Toilet and Misc block which is being constructed at the total estimated cost of Rs 929.76 lakh and will be completed by October 2017.

Later, both the Ministers visited the proposed site for Bus Stand at Parimpora and observed that the roads were in dilapidated conditions. They directed the concerned officers to repair the roads at an earliest for smooth flow of traffic and pedestrian movement in the area.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 03: Cluster University Srinagar is going to introduce new Post Graduation programmes in Zoology, Physics and Education from this academic calendar in addition to the already taught courses at the varsity.
It was said that introduction of PG Botany is also under consideration and a decision regarding this will be taken soon.
 For the selection of the candidates to the PG programmes, applications shall be received from the eligible candidates on June 7, 2017 for general category aspirants and on June 8for reserved categories.

Pertinently, the University has also started 5-year Integrated PG Programmes in eight branches including Chemistry, Environmental Science, Management, Information Technology, Computer Applications etc. from the current session.

SRINAGAR, MAY 25: National Institute for Technical Trainings (NITT) today organized a function of USTTAD Scheme meant for upgrading the Skill in Traditional Arts/Crafts for Development of Minority communities here.
The Scheme also aims to preserve rich heritage of Traditional skills by capacity building of Traditional Arts/Craftsmen, to establish linkage of Traditional skills with the global market. It improves employability of existing workers, School Dropouts etc. to generate means of better livelihood for marginalized minorities.
Under the Scheme, the stipend of Rs 1500/month is also provided to the beneficiaries.

The Impressive function was attended by Director of NITT, management of many renowned art & craft business houses besides hundreds of girl aspirants.

SRINAGAR, MAY 13: Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari chaired a high level meeting here today to review the operational modalities for newly established Cluster Universities in the State.
Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Vice Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar, Dr Sheikh Javaid Ahmad and Vice-Chancellor, Cluster University Jammu Dr Anju Bhasin besides other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
Various decisions for management and functioning of these universities were taken at the meeting.
Pertinently, it has been already announced that the two Cluster Universities will be made functional from the current academic session.
During the meeting, the Minister directed the Vice Chancellors of both the universities to submit proposals under revenue and capital budget by May 15, 2017 for the allocation of funds by the Higher Education Department.
On the guidelines for utilization of preparatory grants under RUSA, the meeting was informed that under preparatory grants an amount of Rs 1 crore each for Cluster University Jammu/Kashmir stands already released. The VCs of the two cluster universities were asked for submission of utilization certificate to the Higher Education Department at the earliest.
Since the Vice Chancellor Cluster University suggested deputation of M Aslam Baba, Principal, A S College, Srinagar to Cluster University Srinagar, the Minister conveyed authorization.
Accordingly, Prof Mohammad Aslam Baba (Principal AS College) was proposed to be appointed as Controller Examinations for Cluster University Srinagar and for Cluster University Jammu, the appointment of Controller Examinations will be made in a week’s time.
The VC Cluster University Jammu was asked to submit recommendation for deputation of a Principal as Controller Examinations to Cluster University Jammu by 15-05-2017 for approval of the Higher Education Department.
On the appointment of Deans the meeting was informed that proposals have been submitted by VCs through Pro-Chancellor (Minister for Education) to the Chancellor (Chief Minister).
Regarding hiring of faculty, the Minister asked the VCs to hire faculty as per Cluster University Act and State government guidelines. However, hiring of faculty in colleges will be done by governing body in consonance with the UGC guidelines.
Regarding the regularization of faculty, both the VCs were asked to submit the proposal to the government duly recommended by University Governing Body for approval of the Chancellor.

Regarding the age of superannuation, the Minister said that a policy decision shall be considered by the Competent Authority in due course after statutes are finalized by Cluster University Jammu/Srinagar within a month.
The meeting also discussed various issues including the revision of grades for non-technical positions and the deputation of personal staff.
The two Cluster Universities, one each in Srinagar and Jammu, have been established in the state under the centrally-sponsored Rashtriya Ucchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) to run series of additional and advanced courses in the existing colleges, with one of the colleges acting as the Lead College for the new University. The Government has already approved creation of 124 posts for these Universities.
The Cluster University in Jammu comprises GGM Science College, Government MAM College, SPMR College of Commerce, Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar and Government College of Education Canal Road.
Similarly, the Cluster University in Srinagar comprises Amar Singh College Srinagar, SP College Srinagar, Women’s College MA Road Srinagar, Government Degree College Bemina and the College of Education, Srinagar.
All the participating colleges will be converted into constituent colleges of the Cluster University. While in Jammu GGM Science College has been designated as the Lead College for the new University, in Srinagar Amar Singh College will be the Lead College.
“Setting up of Cluster Universities, one each in Srinagar and Jammu, will not only augment the existing higher education facilities in J&K, but help diversification of the academics with introduction of latest job-intensive courses at the graduate, post-graduate and diploma levels,” said Minister for Education, Altaf Bukhari.
“The move shall go a long way in expanding access to higher education by increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in the State,” he said and added that each Cluster University will offer post-graduate and diploma courses in social sciences, liberal arts, humanities, engineering, science, teacher education, languages, entrepreneurship development, management and other job-intensive courses.
With the setting up of two Cluster Universities in J&K, the total number of Universities in the State has gone up to 11.
Pertinently, J&K already has nine universities including University of Kashmir, University of Jammu, Central University Kashmir, Central University Jammu, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora, SKUAST-Kashmir, SKUAST-Jammu and Mata Vaishnov Devi University Katra.

Besides there are six satellite campuses of the University of Jammu and University of Kashmir in the State. These include North Campus Delina, South Campus Anantnag, Leh Campus and Kargil Campus affiliated with Kashmir University and Kathua and Bhaderwah Campuses, affiliated with Jammu University.
