New Delhi, Sep 19: Looking back, Bob Odenkirk says he should have been more afraid to be the face of Better Call Saul , the critically-acclaimed show that followed up the phenomenon that was Breaking Bad .

"Breaking Bad", he says, had both magic and luck on its side and there were high chances that anything that comes from the same universe would be hated by the fans.

Instead they loved Better Call Saul , which is more of a deconstruction of how Jimmy McGill, a flawed but good-hearted man, morphs into the confident but shady persona of Saul Goodman.

"I guess it was a little intimidating but it probably should have been more intimidating... I should have been more wary of it. There was a chance that I would have been hated around the world," Odenkirk told in a telephonic interview from Los Angeles.

"I did not know what I was saying yes' to. I was just kind of throwing myself in head first and that's because I trusted Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan to do, at the very least, something interesting, he says.

The actor, 55, says in his career spanning 25 years, he has seen a lot of possibilities come and go so there was not much calculation when he accepted the role other than the thought that it would be a wonderful opportunity.

"I have taken my hits and I am not afraid to do that. This role was not written yet and I did not know what I was saying yes' to. It was a big deal but it became a bigger deal when the billboards went up for the first season. It finally hit me that everyone is going to at least sample the show and we could get judged very harshly, he recalls.

"Better Call Saul", currently in its fourth season and airing in India on every Tuesday at 12pm on Colors Infinity, deftly avoided comparisons with the original show by going in a completely opposite direction yet retaining its complexity and the nostalgic appeal.

"It is very hard to succeed on a greater level than Breaking Bad'. There are aspects of the show that cannot be replicated by anyone, one of them being the arrival of streaming services. That technology married up with the best show that was built for streaming viewing...

"There is a certain kind of excitement and power to Breaking Bad' that we can't duplicate. It is a little bit of magic and luck. It is okay to be left out of that, he says.

Odenkirk believes one of the things that helped the parent show stand out was that it remained great from beginning till the end.

"I appreciate that people who came from the show set out to make something that was as complex as Breaking Bad' and yet we had a different place and tone. Our goal was to try to do something that was worthy of that legacy and I think we are doing that and we are not done yet.

The umbilical cord to Breaking Bad remains attached as Better Call Saul continues to traverse through past, present and future in its exploration of Jimmy McGill's transformation into Saul Goodman.

And Odenkirk loves revisiting that universe, which happened in one of the most recent episodes of season four. The flashback saw him in Goodman's law office just before fleeing to anonymity.

"It was wonderful to play a scene in that crazy, ridiculous lawyer's office with all those props and decoration that Saul Goodman has put up to give himself stature and character. It is fun to revisit that and I like Saul. He is not as complex a character as his fellow Jimmy McGill, who I play in 'Better Call Saul'.

"Saul is a simpler person to play because he has decided he is going to make his life all about being selfish. I like playing Saul when he is in trouble or when he is embarrassing himself.

Odenkirk has worked as a writer for TV shows like "Saturday Night Live", "Late Night with Conan OBrien" and "The Dennis Miller Show" before "Breaking Bad" came his way.

He has also directed "Melvin Goes to Dinner", "Let's Go to Prison" and "The Brothers Solomon".

New Delhi, Aug 7: Superstar Salman Khan has congratulated Priyanka Chopra for bagging a major Hollywood project but said he got to know about her exit from "Bharat" just 10 days before the shooting.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar had shared the news that Priyanka had left the project while hinting that it was because of her engagement with boyfriend Nick Jonas.

But there were reports of a fallout between Salman and the "Quantico" star, who has just bagged Hollywood film "Cowboys Ninja Vikings" opposite Chris Pratt

Talking to reporters at the trailer launch of his upcoming production "Loveratri", Salman said if they knew that she had signed a big film in Hollywood, they wouldn't have stopped her.

"We got to know about it at the end moment and that too 10 days before the start of shooting. We got to know that she wants to leave the film and she has gone home," Salman said.

The actor said Priyanka gave a "different reason" to them about leaving the film.

"That time some other reasons were given to us. That (Priyanka's rumoured engagement to Nick) might also be the reason but this (her Hollywood project) is also a reason. Whatever the reason, whether marriage or film, or she does not want to work in India or she does not want to work with me and in only Hollywood films and TV shows, it's hers," he said.

"We are happy and supportive about her doing really good work. So what if she is not working here. She is making India proud. If she does not want to work with Salman Khan, at least she is working with a big hero of Hollywood. So we are okay with that," he said.

Salman said after Priyanka left the project, they approached Katrina Kaif who agreed to do the film, despite being busy with Shah Rukh Khan-starrer "Zero" and Aamir Khan's "Thugs of Hindostan".

"When she told us that it is not working out for the reasons she gave us, then we straight away said 'ok. No problem. All the best' and we went for Katrina."

"Priyanka's dates were available and so we had a month. Katrina is doing 'Zero' with Shah Rukh and 'Thugs of Hindostan' with Aamir (Khan) and between all this she had to get the dates for another film with me after 'Tiger Zinda Hai'," Salman said.

The 52-year-old actor said he is happy that Katrina is now a part of "Bharat".

"We are really happy that she is a part of 'Bharat' because she is really hardworking and she is doing very well for herself right now. We are all thankful that she could adjust her dates," he added.

The first schedule of "Bharat", which also stars Disha Patani, wrapped today and the team will next travel to Malta for shooting.

Mumbai, Jun 13: Actor Varun Dhawan has defended Priyanka Chopra, who faced a lot of flak in India for the plot of an episode in her American TV show "Quantico".
Chopra, 35, took to Twitter recently to clear the air around the episode, titled "The Blood of Romeo", which featured 'Indian nationalists' planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Manhattan and frame Pakistan for it days before a summit on Kashmir.
At a press conference of the International Indian Filmand Academy (IIFA) here last night, Dhawan, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon and Ayushmann Khurrana were asked how much involvement actors have in their characters, in view of the "Quantico" controversy. Khurrana said, "When you play a character, you have your own thought and that can't be right or wrong. You're following a script, a director and that's your first responsibility...There are all kinds of opinions, you will get backlash when you take one side. You can't escape this."
To this, Dhawan added, "To end it, Priyanka Chopra has made the entire country very proud and we stand by her. There's nothing else."
Chopra, in her apology, had called herself a "proud Indian" and said she was extremely saddened that sentiments were hurt.
ABC also apologised for stepping into a "complex political issue" with the story, saying Priyanka was not to be blamed as she did not have a creative control over the episode.
Chopra, who became the first Indian actor to play a lead role in an American TV series, portrays FBI agent Alex Parrish in the show, which is currently in its third and final season.

Los Angeles, Jun 1: Jason Momoa has exited the reboot of "The Crow" but the actor hinted that he might return to the film at a later date.
The 38-year-old actor, who is best known for playing Khal Drogo on the "Game of Thrones" and superhero Aquaman in "Justice League", took to Instagram to share the news of his departure from the project and said the film has fallen apart.
"I've waited eight years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait eight more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O'Barr sorry to let you down. I won't on the next," Momoa wrote.
"This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can't play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I'm ready when it's right," he added.
"The Crow" reboot has been plagued with numerous setbacks over the years and nearly a dozen Hollywood stars have been attached and then left this new version of film including Jack Huston, Norman Reedus, Luke Evans and Tom Hiddleston.
Development on the reboot dates back to 2008 when Mark Wahlberg was being eyed toto play rockstar-turned-undead-avenger Eric Draven.
Things were finally coming together after Momoa and director Corin Hardy boarded the film and it was expected to start filming later this month with a release date of October 11, 2019.
According to Deadline, the financial issues between producer Samuel Hadida and Sony were the cause of the project's collapse.

Tokyo, Nov 4: The US President's daughter and adviser, Ivanka Trump, has said that harassment of women in the workplace was not to be tolerated.
At the World Assembly for Women at Tokyo on Friday, she spoke about women's safety amid sexual harassment of women in Hollywood and other industries in the United States, The Asahi Shimbun reported on Friday.
"All too often, our workplace culture fails to treat women with appropriate respect," she said. "This takes many forms including harassment which can never be tolerated."
She did not give examples.
In her speech, she also said workplaces need to make further efforts to respect women's values and accommodate the need for balance between work and family.
Despite the increase in the percentage of women at workplaces, corporate expectations have remained "stagnant" and still operate on "a single-honor mindset" with expectations for mothers to stay home to provide full-time care, she said.
It "disproportionately" impacts women and most likely causes them to leave jobs or curtail ambitions due to lack of affordable care for children or relatives who can help, she said, calling for innovative ways to make it easier for women to enjoy motherhood without compromising their careers.
"This isn't a woman's issue, it's a family issue," she said.
Ivanka Trump came to Japan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and is set to leave one day before her father arrives in Japan on Sunday.
The conference was part of Abe's "womenomics" initiative aimed at encouraging women to join the workforce and promoting their advancement as a way to boost national economic growth. More women have joined the labor force under the Abe government, but the majority of female workers hold part-time or non-regular jobs, while most working men have full-time jobs.
Abe acknowledged that men think they have set the rules and tend to "think inside the box" and he feels "a pain in the heart" as he reflects on his own mindset. "I believe women have a power to break the wall of 'common sense' set by men and pioneer a new era," Abe said, adding that women have the chance to create businesses from a unique perspective. UNI

New Delhi, Oct 11: Regardless of prevailing trends in the industry, Superstar Aamir khan has always believed in doing films that touch his heart be it the Oscar nominated 'Lagaan' and the critically acclaimed 'Dil Chahta Hai', Taare Zameen Par' and 'Dhoni Ghat'.
The actor says that regardless of the prevailing trends, he believes in following his instinct while choosing a film 'I believe in doing films that touch my heart.
I don't think I am the kind of person who would like to get affected by prevailing trends because as an actor and filmmaker I believe in following my own instinct as a creative person," Aamir said at the launch of PVR privilege card, a loyalty programme by PVR Cinemas, here last night.
Aamir said that notwithstanding the trends and the success formulae, it was very important to him to be excited about a cinematic venture he was a part of.
'As an Actor and filmmaker, it is very important to me to be excited about a film I am making or one that I am a part of.
Many times, i have taken up subjects which are not part of the prevailing trend.
An instance if this is a film like 'Taare Zameen Par'.
I like to surprise myself and the audience.
I feel this is an important aspect of storytelling," said Aamir, whose next venture "Secret Superstar" is slated for a release on Diwali.
Aamir, who will be seen alongside his 'Dangal' co star Zaira Wasim in 'Secret Superstar ', says he would rather make a film that touches his heart regardless of its box office outcome.
' It could be something that works at the box office or one that fails to click with the cinegoing audience.
But I always like to follow my gut feeling,' Aamir said.
Directed by Advait Chandan, Secret Superstar is slated for a release on October 19.
The PVR privilege card is a first-of-its-kind digital loyalty programme aimed at gauging the movie going preference of cinegoers.

A first of its kind initiative in the entertainment industry, the PVR privilege card is an attempt to gauge into the movie going preference of the movie goers.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, the CEO of PVR cinemas Ajay Bijli said, 'presently movie watching is a one sided affair for the cinegoers.
However, getting to know their movie going experience will help us to know his mind.
This in turn will help exhibitors to share the latest movie going preferences with the film industry.
' Speaking about the initiative chief of strategy at PVR, Kamal Gianchandani said, 'the purpose of the digital loyalty programme is to have a direct interface with the audience.
This in turn will help movies to become more relevant to advertisers.
' He said PVR has been working on this concept for the last one year.
The PVR privilege programme promises to make the movie going experience hugely rewarding by earning points and auto generated vouchers, all from first time visitation to subsequent transactions. UNI

Toronto, Sep 18: Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie is behind two films at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) that have drawn huge audiences for their focus on the plight of the people affected by conflicts in Asia.
'First They Killed My Father', a feature film directed by Jolie recalls the horrors of the Khmer Rouge rule in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979.
Jolie is the executive producer of an animation film, 'The Breadwinner', which is about Afghanistan under the Taliban.
'First They Killed My Father', Jolie's fourth directorial venture, is based on a book by a survivor of the Khmer Rouge atrocities in Cambodia.
Loung Ung's 'First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers' retells the story of her family, which was sent to a labour camp by the Khmer Rouge.
'The Breadwinner' directed by Irish director Nora Twomey tells the story of a 11-year-old girl who earns the livelihood of her family disguising herself as a boy.
Based on a novel by Canadian author Deborah Ellis of the same name, the film uses animation to tell a poignant story.
Celebrated Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh joins Jolie, who has two children adopted from Cambodia, as executive producer in 'First They Killed My Father'.
"Jolie's textured script, complemented by (British cinematographer) Anthony Dodd Mantle's lush photography, balances vivid moments of everyday life with the sweeping terrors of war," says TIFF programmer Kerri Kraddock.
Mantle won the Best Cinematography Oscar for 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
Part of the special presentations section of the Toronto festival, 'First They Killed My Father' begins from the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh in 1975 when the Khmer Rouge rebels take over power.
The Khmer Rouge rule witnessed the genocide of a quarter of the population of Cambodia.
'The Breadwinner', also part of the TIFF's special presentations section, tells the real-life story of Parvana, living with her family in Taliban-controlled Kabul.
Jolie, whose humanitarian work extended to both Cambodia and Afghanistan, came into contact with the girl during her work in Afghanistan.
"In Taliban-controlled Kabul, women and girls are not permitted to leave the house unescorted, to earn money, or to shop for food and supplies in the market.
When Parvana's father, a teacher, is unfairly imprisoned, she must disguise herself as a boy to become her family's sole breadwinner," says TIFF programmer Elizabeth Muskala.
Jolie, whose earlier directorial ventures include 'Land of Blood and Honey' and 'Unbroken', came to the Toronto festival to engage in a conversation with Loung, the protagonist of 'First They Killed My Father'. UNI
