Jamshedpur, Aug 23: Three persons were killed and 35 others injured when a bus overturned in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district early today, police said.
The bus was on its way to Raxaul in Bihar when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned near Jamsola chowk, about 90 km from here, they said.
One person died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital, they said.
The injured were first rushed to primary health centre in Baharagora. The doctors at the health centre referred them to government-run M G M Hospital here.
Altogether 15 injured persons were admitted in M G M hospital while several were discharged after first-aid, they added. (PTI)
Jamshedpur, Aug 22: Popular Bhojpuri singer Manoj Tiwari has said meaningful songs are in great demand and through these an artiste can remain in the field for a long period.
"Some singers using vulgar words in their songs can make their presence felt among a particular section of the society for some time, but certainly they neither earn respect nor money," Tiwari told newsmen here yesterday.
Tiwary, who is also the president of Delhi unit of the BJP and a member of Parliament, claimed he was very much an acting professional despite the busy social and political responsibility.
"I want to keep it alive despite my busy engagements socially and politically," the 47-year old singer said adding that despite his busy schedule in the political field, he was marching along with the present day artistes.
Tiwary was in the steel city to take part in a 'Bhajan Sandhya' programme.
In the programme, Tiwari said, he wanted to play his newly released 'Bhajans' based on Lord Shiva, but could not due to lack of Internet facility at the venue. (PTI)
Jamshedpur, Jul 26: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jamshedpur has arrested a dealing assistant and his broker while accepting a bribe from a villager on a property issue.
The ACB laid a trap yesterday and caught the dealing assistant of a circle office at Seraikela-Kharswan district and his broker when they were accepting Rs 5,000 from one Ashok Gope, a resident of Pudiyara villag, an ACB official said.
Gope said in his complaint, lodged with the ACB on Tuesday, that the dealing assistant Ranjan Kumar Dubey through his broker Arun Mahato were demanding a bribe for mutation of land purchased by his father-in-law, the official said.
On verification, the complaint was found to be true following which the trap was laid yesterday, he said. (PTI)
Jamshedpur, July 23: As part of its green initiatives, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has decided to undertake a drive, under which parents of babies born in the "holy month of Shravan" will get a chance to plant a sapling and name it after their child, an official said.
The unique tree-plantation drive will be launched next month during the Shravan mela as "it is possibly the perfect time to motivate people" to take measures for environment conservation, said JNAC Special Officer Sanjay Kumar Pandey.
Shravan is the fifth month in Hindu calendar. Devotees offer prayers to Lord Shiva during this time.
"The JNAC will be issuing a birth certificate to the newborn child on this occasion for a meagre sum of Rs 10.
Also, an appreciation certificate with details of the date of plantation and the name of the child would be given to the parents," he said.
The committee will be felicitating the parents who come forward to take part in the drive, Pandey said.
"I will visit the houses of the newborn babies to hand out a gift to them. Besides being a symbolic move, the initiative will turn out to be a memorable experience for the families," he asserted.
Pandey said the JNAC has set a target to plant 15,000 saplings over the next month.
"The parents will be asked to take a photograph while planting the sapling and show it to the JNAC authorities. They would also be encouraged to take a written pledge to promote greenery," the special officer said, adding that saplings would be distributed to the parents on request. (PTI)
Jamshedpur, Jul 21: Jamshedpur Football Club today said it has appointed former Spanish footballer Cesar Ferrnado Jimenez as head coach ahead of the next edition of Indian Super League (ISL).
At a press conference here, Fernando said he will introduce Spanish style of football in Jamshedpur FC during the next ISL season.
The Spaniard, who replaced Steve Coppell at the helm, said he remains committed to the betterment of Jamshedpur FC and bring in new ideas and style, while admiring the natural skills, good physique and techniques that Indian footballers possess.
Ferrando was accompanied by the vice president, corporate services of Tata Steel and also the director of Jamshedpur Football Club, Sunil Bhaskaran.
Fernando said he is aiming to build a strong Jamshedpur FC that would improve gradually.
"I assure you all that I will try to put in my best and deliver a desirable result," he said.
Ferrnado said he has watched videos of some earlier matches played by Jamshedpur FC in its inaugural ISL session last year but declined to comment on the performance.
Asked how difficult it is to switch from English style of football introduced by former coach Steve Coppell to Spanish style, Ferrnado said "it is our duty to make things possible".
"Our main objective will be to give our best every day at every training session and make the team compete at the highest level," Ferrnado said adding that we will focus and prepare the team game by game as it will require a lot of hard work, passion, sacrifice, team work and humility.
"We will focus on important positions such as midfielder, striker and Centre half," he said while addressing a joint press conference.
Bhaskaran said Ferrnado has had a glittering career both as player and coach and has managed teams such as Atletico de Madrid, Valencia B, Elche, Albacete (La Liga & Segunda division clubs).
In his last assignment with Spanish club La Nucia, he had an extremely successful stint.
Fernando has also previously coached in Asia where he managed Malaysian outfit Johur Darul Yakin in 2013-14, he said.
"We are delighted to welcome Fernando to Jamshedpur FC. We are extremely confident that he is the right person for the job and will work to deliver trophies for our fans and bring glory to Jamshedpur," Bhaskaran said.
Bhaskaran said Ferrnado has thorough knowledge about the players, the club and ISL which was very impressive.
"Ferrnado shares our vision to move forward to build on the platform created by us and help this club enjoy greater success," Bhaskaran added.
Jamshedpur FC chief executive officer Mukul Chaudhary said Ferrnado's sides have always played exciting football impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism and his coaching methods significantly improve the players. (PTI)
Jamshedpur, July 14: The Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway has distributed electronic note books among 47 girls of lower grade employees, a railway official said.
The purpose is to empower the girl students of class X1 and X11 to pursue their studies, said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Chakradharpur Division) Bhaskar said.
The gadgets were distributed at a function in Chakradharpur yesterday.
He said Indian Railway had been implementing various welfare scheme for the wards of the lower grade employees from its Employees Welfare Fund round the year. (PTI)
Jamshedpur, Jun 23 : Artistes of Jamshedpur today said they would not perform for 10 days in protest against the gang-rape of five women in Khunti district earlier this week.
In a memorandum to Chief Minister Raghuvar Das, the artistes demanded immediate arrest of all the culprits, stringent action against them, and adequate compensation for the rape victims.
The memorandum was sent through East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar by a delegation of artistes from various organisations under the banner of 'Jamshedpur Kalakaar Sangh'.
In the memorandum, they described the gang-rape of five women as "heinous and inhuman" and said artistes across the state were shocked by the incident.
Five women working with an NGO were allegedly raped at gunpoint by a group of at least five men when they had gone to Kochange village under Arki police station area to create awareness on migration and human trafficking on Tuesday.
The artistes demanded that adequate security be provided to them during their performance to ensure that such incidents do not recur, the memorandum said.
They also demanded issuance of identity cards to the artistes.
The artistes appealed to their colleagues across the state to protest against the incident in all district headquarters.
The artistes of Jamshedpur held a meeting here yesterday and decided not to perform for 10 days.
Artistes from across the state would try to meet the chief minister in Ranchi on June 26 over the incident.
Khunti Superintendent of Police Aswini Kumar Sinha has said an FIR was filed on Thursday against unidentified persons involved in the gang-rape, another case was registered against the head of local school where the incident occurred.
The police have identified the culprits and eight people were detained in this connection, he said.
Initial investigation has found that the people behind 'Pathalgarhi' (a practice in which villagers inscribe various tenets on huge stone slabs and ban outsiders in their area), were behind the incident, Deputy Inspector General of Police Amol V Homker had said yesterday. PTI
