New Delhi, Jul 25: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led panel may consider appointment of eminent persons as members of the Lokpal search committee, the government said today.

The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill, which envisages establishment of anti-graft body Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states to look into cases of corruption against certain categories of public servants, was passed in 2013.

Three meetings of the selection committee, headed by the prime minister, were held on March 1, April 10 and July 19 this year, Union Minister Jitendra Singh minister said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

Upon the recommendations of the selection committee in its meeting held on April 10, President Ram Nath Kovind has nominated Mukul Rohatgi, former Attorney General of India as 'Eminent Jurist' member of the panel against the vacancy due to the passing away of senior advocate P P Rao, he said.

"The selection committee has proposed to consider names of eminent persons who qualify as per the statutory provisions to be appointed as members of the search committee in its next meeting," the Minister of State for Personnel said.

An eight-member search committee is mandated to recommend a panel of names for the appointment of the Lokpal and its members.

While hearing a case on delay in appointing a Lokpal, the Supreme Court had yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over the Centre's response on appointment of search committee members. (PTI)

New Delhi, Jul 18: As many as 225 central government officers have been punished for non-performance, the government said today.

The performance of a total of 25,082 Group 'A' and 54,873 Group 'B' officers has been reviewed up to May 2018, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

Of these, the relevant rules were invoked against 93 Group 'A' and 132 Group 'B' officers, he said.

In reply to another question, the minister said during 2017 and March 2018, vigilance clearance has been denied to 80 officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) on the ground of filing Immovable Property Returns after prescribed time or failing to file it.

He said that from the year 2014 onwards, sanction for prosecution has been granted against three IAS officers on account of having disproportionate assets. (PTI)

New Delhi, Feb 26: Former Cabinet Secretary TSR Subramanian passed away here, the IAS Association said on Monday. He was 79.
In a post on social media, the IAS Association said, 'Extremely shocked to hear the sad news of the demise of TSR Subramanian. He was the tallest among all and it's a big loss for the IAS fraternity and the nation. Deepest condolences to all family members. We hope and pray that your ideas and thoughts will continue to guide us." 
The association said his cremation will take place at the Lodhi Road crematorium here on Monday evening. The cause of the death was, however, immediately not known.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (MoS) for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh and other senior IAS officers have condoled his death.
'Saddened by the news of the demise of former Cabinet Secretary TSR Subramanyam. My condolences to the entire @IASassociation fraternity and his family,' Mr Singh said in a tweet. UNI

Moradabad, Oct 27: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a man, who was out on bail in a terror-related case, and seized a fake passport and other documents from him late on Thursday night. A ration card, a PAN card and an Aadhaar also were recovered from Farhan’s possession, in Mugalpura area, confirmed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jitendra Singh here today. Farhan is reportedly an active member of the terror organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba, had been convicted by a Delhi POTA court and sentenced to seven years in prison in 2008, but he managed to secure bail in 2009 and was staying in Moradabad. Farhan is also an accused in the Godhra riots case. According to police, the arrested man, a native of Sohratgarh in Siddharthnagar district, procured a fake passport in a name of Farhan Ali by submitting copies of fake ration card and other documents. Efforts were on to identify and apprehend those who helped in the forgery racket. UNI

DECU, Deptt of Higher Education signs MoU

State’s youth highly talented; need to be exposed to technological advancement: Altaf Bukhari

 JAMMU, JUNE 03: Jammu and Kashmir is all set to lead the country in nation building by tapping the caliber, capacity, aptitude and potential of the youth. Despite facing obstacles, J&K youth continue to perform at the national level including the prestigious Civil Services Examinations.
This was stated by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony here today.
MoU on ‘Tele Education Networks of J&K’ was signed between Development & Educational Communication Unit (DECU), ISRO, Ahmadabad, Department of Science & Technology and Department of Higher Education, Government of J&K at Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Director DECU, Virendra Kumar, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu, Dr Ashok Aima, Principals of GGM Science College, GCW Gandhi Nagar, senior officers from Higher Education and School Education departments besides students of the colleges were present on the occasion.
Reinstating faith in the potential of JK youth, Dr Jitendra Singh said if given proper channels and avenues, the state’s youth can excel in every field and lead the country on the path of development, progress, growth and success. “In this era of information technology where the world has shrunk to a global village, the youth need to be connected with the nation to understand the level of competition and aptitude testing standards being followed at diverse platforms,” he said.
Elucidating the importance of space technology in reaching the inaccessible and far off locations, Dr Jitendra Singh said, “The MoU on ‘Tele Education Networks of J&K’ is a new paradigm of education for anyone, anywhere, anytime” adding, “It opens up numerous opportunities both for students as well as teachers for sharing ideas & knowledge, thereby improving lifelong learning skills through easy access to global resources”.
The Minister said that bountless opportunities can be created in tele-education by linking best of institutes for providing advanced courses in array of streams.
On the success of recently held recruitment drive for the posts of Sub Inspector in the valley, the Minister said that the youth has showcased its desire to shed the bondages of resistance and come forward to participate in the rapid national development being achieved under the aegis of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said that the MoU will go a long way in augmenting the knowledge deficit by taking the world class teaching and learning practices to the remotest areas in the state. “Tele Education Networks of J&K is a step forward for greater reliance on secondary resources and materials for knowledge generation,” he said.
Bukhari said that the youth of the State are full of potential and should be exposed to technological advancements for their prosperous future.  “Through this intervention, we will be taking education to every nook and corner of the State and it is estimated that about 5 Lac students will get benefitted every year if implemented throughout the state,” he added.
The Minister for Education said with the signing of MoU, state government will be taking a step forward in implementation of tele-education programme in Jammu and Kashmir.
“I believe that once the tele-education hubs are functional, the State can be benefitted by way of improved connectivity in rural and remote areas besides supplementing curriculum and based teaching and effective teachers training,” Bukhari observed further.
Earlier, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon informed the gathering that the ‘Tele Education Networks of J&K’ will be an interface between school education, higher education, cluster universities, state universities and central universities. Currently 31 colleges are connected with the network which will be extended cover 97 colleges of state apart from different universities, he added.

MoU provides for a 3 year partnership between Development and Educational Communication Unit (DECU), ISRO and Department of Higher Education, Government of J&K for facilitating education in students from the state.
