JAMMU, APRIL 24: The government is prioritizing agriculture sector so that Prime Minister’s vision of doubling farmers’ income by 2022 can be materialized, stated Minister for Agriculture Production, Gulam Nabi Lone Hanjura while chairing a meeting held to review the functioning of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).
Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J, Pardeep Sharma, Secretary APD, Shoukat Ahmad Beigh, Director Extension KS Risam, Director Planing SKUAST-J Deepak Kher besides other senior officers of the concerned departments were present in the meeting.
The Minister reviewed the progress achieved by Kishtwar, Ramban and Udhampur Krishi Vigyan Kendras. He directed VC SKUAST-J to submit a proposal to Agriculture Production Department for land compensation in Dalwas Ramban. He also said that a site selection committee should visit Marta Ramnagar and Nagseni Kishtwar for assessing the problems in establishment of KVK at the said places.
The Minister also directed the concerned officers to submit a proposal under RKVY to Mission Director RKVY in a time bound manner and reflect their actual requirements of funds. He directed for establishment of demonstration units of vermin composite in KVKs so that the farmers can be benefitted from the schemes of Agriculture department.
It was informed in the meeting that an amount of Rs.9.5 crore will be spent for various works of SKUAST-J besides construction of PG Hostel for girls at the estimated cost of Rs.6.81 crore at main campus of SKUAST-J in Chatha.

Says keen to make J&K state self-sufficient in agriculture
NEW DELHI, MARCH 17: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Hanjura today visited the Krishi Unnati Kissan Mela held in New Delhi.
The Kisan Mela themed “Doubling Farmer’s income by 2022” was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare was attended a number of progressive Farmers from across the state.
Minister said the aim of organising such Melas is to sensitize the farmers about new technology and high yielding variety of seeds being introduced in the agriculture to increase productivity and to facilitate the marketing exposure to the agriculture produce of the state thereby increasing the income of farmers. 
He said it is for the first time that J&K has been represented at such high level and also for the first-time niche products like black cumin and red rice were introduced on a higher scale. 
The Minister said that they are planning to introduce technologies like Govardan wherein Biogas would be used to generate power to be used by farmers in fields. 
Hanjura said the introduction of new technologies is to make the life of a farmer easy. He maintained that agricultural marketing reforms are being worked out and stress is laid on farmer-producer organisations for value addition and increasing income. 
He said farmer-producer organisations and setting up of Krishi Vighyan Kendra's like one going to be setup in Kargil would go a long way in increasing the income of the farming community. 
The Minister said more such Melas should be organised to acquaint the farmers about the latest techniques being used in farming sector and reiterated that such events opens a pathway for farmers to get information about scientific knowledge, modern technology and productivity. 
The Minister said he is keen to make the J&K state self-sufficient in agriculture by introduction of latest technologies.

REASI, JUNE 14: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized campaign on “ Layout of Orchards”   at village Judd in Reasi district of J&K which was  attended by a large number of farmers of the area.

The programme was organized under the   guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr R K Arora. The programme was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi.

He urged upon the farmers to switch over to modern techniques to increase productivity of fruit crops like as there is ample scope in the region. He further added that the farmers of the area should shift from subsistence horticulture farming to commercial horticulture farming so that their socio-economic status can be raised.  

He said the farmers can double their farm income by establishing the orchards onscientific lines. He elaborated the scientific guidelines for the layout of the orchards. He stressed on the marketing of fruit crops and said that the district is bestowed with the world famous place Katra where the fruit crops and processed fruit products can be sold throughout the year.

 Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist guided the farmers on the layout of orchards and stressed on the proper spacing between plants to ensure maximum production. He elaborated on the proper location and site of the orchards and advised the farmers to go for   soil testing before establishing the orchard of any fruit crop.

           On this occasion many quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientists answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Smt. Shalini Khajuria.

The programme was concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with vote of thanks.

Lays foundation of KVK admin block in Budgam


            SRINAGAR, JUNE 08: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, today laid foundation stone of administrative-cum-laboratory block of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Haran in district Budgam.
          The double story building will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.48 crore with a completion target ending this fiscal. 
          Vice Chancellor SKAUST Kashmir Prof. Nazir Ahmad, District Development Commissioner Budgam Mohammad Hussain Haroon, Director Agriculture Kashmir Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, Senior Officers of Agriculture, SKAUST and other concerned Departments were present on the occasion.
          The Minister said that the work of KVK is significant regarding agriculture as it provides relevant information to farmers about advanced agriculture techniques through various training programmes.
          He expressed hope that Budgam district, which is largely dependent on agriculture, will be provided important agricultural information by this centre to all its villages. He called upon the KVK functionaries that it should work for providing latest technologies to the farming community. He said KVK should develop such model so that it helps in improving the sources of livelihood of the locals farmers. 
          Hanjura said this Kendra would work extensively on rice cultivation, production of fruits and vegetables and mushrooms so that people of Budgam district may get benefited by availability of seeds of vegetables of high quality.
          Referring to the developmental works under execution in the district, the Minister said that the construction work on various micro and macro projects is apace in the district adding that on completion of these projects it will change the socio-economic condition of the people of the district.
          He announced that a Guest House will be constructed at Haran village soon. He added that several centrally sponsored schemes like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and Fasal Bhima Yojana have been introduced in the State to improve the living standard of the farming community. He said our vision is to make the income of the farmers of the State double under mission 2022.
          Responding to the demands put forth by the locals on the occasion, the Minister said that the Government headed by the Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti is committed to provide basic amenities like power, drinking water, road connectivity and health facilities to the people of the State.

          The DDC Budgam in his speech highlighted various achievements made under various sectors in the district. VC SKAUST Kashmir and Director Agriculture also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the importance of KVKs and agriculture activities carried out by the Department of Agriculture and SKAUST in the Valley.

          KUPWARA, MAY 13: According to Programme Coordinator of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara SKUAST-K, the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra which was scheduled to be held on 15 May 2017 is deferred.

          The next date for the meeting shall be communicated in due course of time.
