New Delhi, Mar 28: More than seven lakh business establishments and over 3000 commercial markets in Delhi on Wednesday remained closed following a bandh called by Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in protest against on-going sealing drive.
The traders also held a mega rally at Ramlila Ground which was attended not only by the traders but their families, children and employees.
According to CAIT, around 50 thousand people attended the rally.
The traders alleged that the Monitoring Committee was working like an extra Administrative Authority and concerned about sealing the shops irrespective of the fact whether it is legal or illegal.
Addressing the rally, CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal raised the fundamental issue of not following the due process of law by the Monitoring Committee and MCD.
“The fundamental provisions of MCD ACT,1957 are being flouted. There is no appeal, no daleel and no Vakil. No service of any show cause notice. Even the Right to Appeal to Appellate Tribunal & Delhi LG has been snatched. The fundamental rights are being openly destroyed,” he said.
Mr Khandelwal demanded that the Government should immediately stop sealing for at least one year and a high level committee be constituted under the Chairmanship of Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal consisting of senior officials of Central & State Governments and representatives of trade to analyse the shortcomings and failure of all three Master Plans.
A unanimous resolution was also passed in the rally, which mentioned that due process of law should be mandatorily followed before taking any action of sealing.
The Central Government should bring a Moratorium Bill on sealing in current session of Parliament whereas on the other hand Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal pass a Bill for stopping sealing in current session of Assembly and forward the same to Centre for approval.
The bandh caused a business loss of about Rs 1800 crore resulting into a revenue loss of about 250 crore to Government.
All major wholesale and retail markets of Delhi including Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Chawri Bazar, Kamla Nagar,Karol Bagh,Kashmiri Gate, Khari Baoil, Naya Bazar, Bhagirath Palace, Lajpat Rai Market,Paharganj, Rajouri Garden, Jail Road, Tilak Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Naraina, Rohini, Ashok Vihar, Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh, Model Town,Amar Colony, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Defence Colony, Greater Kailash,Green Park, Khan Market, Kirti Nagar, Vikaspuri, Kalkaji,Tughlaqabad, Yusuf Sarai, Vikas Marg, Mandawali, Gandhi Nagar, Shahdara, Bhajanpura, Jagatpuri, Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar, Shradhanand Marg remained closed.

New Delhi, Mar 9: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday threatened to go on a hunger strike if the sealing problem is not resolved before March 31.
'If the sealing problem is not resolved before March 31, then Kejriwal will sit on a hunger strike. We will put pressure on the Central Government,' the CM said while interacting with traders at Amar Colony market where BJP's Central Government controlled MCD did the sealing forcibly.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Azad Singh and AAP leader Madan Lal were also present.
The traders said to Mr Kejriwal, 'We are merchants not thieves, why is the Union Government-administered MCD acting with mala fide intentions towards us?"
'I am with you, do not worry,' Mr Kejriwal assured the traders.
'All traders are suffering due to the sealing. This issue is not linked to a particular party. If the MPs of BJP, Congress and AAP shut down Parliament for two days, the sealing will be stopped within 24 hrs,' he said.
The CM said, 'on the issue of sealing, I met several traders. There is a need to change the master plan. There is a need to make changes in many laws. Now there is only one way to stop sealing, if the ordinance comes, then all traders will get relief.'
'All of our AAP MPs are constantly raising their voice in Parliament against forced sealing being done by the Central Government-ruled MCD. On Monday, the session will start and again we will raise voice against sealing,' Mr Singh said. UNI
