Lucknow, Apr 6: Defending the government initiative to invite private companies to invest in the power sector ,Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has denied the opposition charges of discrimination in action against some leaders who were involved in the 'Bharat Bandh' violence on April 2 last.
" The government was taking action against those people who were really involved in the violence and their photos are on the video recording. We have enough evidences against them and they cannot deny their involvement in the arson," he said.
The CM said that police was acting in an impartial way and no one can question on their action.
He was reacting on BSP charges of targeting their leaders over the large scale violence in the state during the Bharat Bandh over dalit issue on April 2. Several senior BSP leaders have been arrested in west UP while couple of others could be arrested soon.
Yogi, who was addressing a press conference at the state BJP office here along with defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the occasion of the 38th foundation day of the party on Friday, said that his government was working on the strict ideology of ' Sabka Saath ,Sabka Vikas' and there is no discrimination.
To a query on sudden revert of the decision of the government in handing over power distribution franchise in seven districts, the CM clarified that ," it was not at all a privatization process as highlighted by the opposition."
" We were just inviting the private companies to invest in the power sector in the state and to provide better facilities to the consumers. But still the opposition was doing politics to stall the process," he said.
The CM said still around 7000 majras in the state were yet to be electrified and power theft has turned into a big problem." We need big investments in the power sector so that people in the far flung areas can get uninterrupted power," he said with claiming that after BJP came to power one year back the situation has improved and now all the 75 districts are getting adequate electricity when earlier it was supplied to just four districts.
Yogi also narrated in detail about how the state government has worked for the people of the state." Construction of over seven lakh houses under the 'PM Aawas' scheme along with implementation of the free Ujjawala yojgna for LPG cylinders and Saugbhagya scheme for power connection has benefited the poor in the state a lot," he added. UNI

Bengaluru, Mar 15: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has convened a meeting of MPs from the state at New Delhi on March 16, in the backdrop of Supreme Court directing the Union Government to set up the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), to monitor release of water from river Cauvery.
According to CM office sources on Thursday, Mr Siddaramaiah will urge upon the MPs to bring pressure on the Centre not to constitute the CMB, as it would allegedly take away the state's control on the river.
The move comes in the wake of Opposition parties pressuring him to prevail upon the Centre not to constitute the Board and also appeal to the apex court, to reconsider its direction.
Former Prime Minister and JD (S) National President H D Devegowda, commenting on the Supreme Court verdict and direction, had strongly opposed setting up of any separate Board, as it will deny the state its right on the River and directing release of 14 tmc extra was not a victory, as the state was eligible for 45 tmc.
Moreover, since the state government's review petition against the Cauvery Water Tribunal is still pending for disposal, direction for setting up a separate board is not correct and the state government should take a firm stand against it.
The state government is also in consultation with Legal Advisers on the direction and meanwhile the Chief Minister has convened a meeting of MPs in Karnataka Bhavan at 6pm on.
Mr Siddaramaiah will be leaving for New Delhi on March 15 to discuss with party High Command and senior leaders, about the decisions of KPCC Selection Committee meeting, held in the city to finalise the list for the election to the Legislative Assembly, due in May.
Meanwhile, the Centre had recently held a meeting of Chief Secretaries of riparian states at New Delhi on the issue, following direction by the apex court to form the Board within six weeks. UNI

Lucknow, Jan 18: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday ruled out any move to abolish madarsas after the Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi demanded for the same a few days ago.
"There is no solution to ban madarsas but my government will certainly go for major modernisation and up-gradation of the madarsas so that the students get quality education there," he said.
Mr Adityanath, who was inaugurating the day-long meeting of the coordination meeting of north India minority affairs and social justice ministers here on Thursday, said that madarsas too have a role in the education system in the country.
"Like madarsas, the UP government will also improve the quality of education in the Sanskrit schools in the state so that the students could study job oriented courses," he said.
The statement of the CM on madarsas contradicts the demand of Shia Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi, who had demanded that madarsas be banned as it was linked with terror organisations and was not imparting good education.
The UP CM ruled out the charges of the opposition that the government was working in a partial way. "The BJP government is working on the ideology of "sabka Saath, sabka vikas' and we are focusing in the development of all communities," he said.
He also appreciated Union minister for minority welfare Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi for working on the uplift of the minorities in the country. 'After Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi became a Minister, implementation of minority welfare schemes have picked up speed," he stated.
Mr Naqvi, who is also attending the meeting, said that the Centre was doing everything required for the uplift of the minority communities with focus on their economic, education and health sectors.
"The BJP government would not support appeasement or vote politics done by earlier government to confuse the minorities," he claimed.
Ministers and officials of nine states-- Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh are participating in the meeting.
Officials said that the main agenda of the meeting is to assess the various developmental measures initiated by different state governments for education and socio-economic development for minorities.
The decision to hold the meet in Lucknow is also seen as another bid by the saffron party to stress that it is not opposed to the welfare of the minority communities but will not share the "discriminatory" approach of other parties as seen in BJP's attacks on the previous SP government over providing funds for maintenance of burial grounds that led to allegations of encroachment and rise in communal tensions.
The Lucknow meet is the second of its kind as Chennai has hosted the first one. Kolkata and Mumbai will be the next destinations. UNI

SRINAGAR, JUNE 17: Reiterating her stand that dialogue is the only way forward to get the State out of the web of uncertainties, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti said the roots of the present situation lay in the fact that democracy in the past was not allowed to flourish and dissent was throttled.
Says never before have consultations been
held on extending Central law;
 Expresses anguish over killings
Speaking on the Obituary Reference in the House today, the Chief Minister said it was a matter of satisfaction that the constituency for dialogue and reconciliation in the State is expanding like never before. “I am happy to see Shafi sahib (of National Conference) demanding for dialogue and ceasefire. This is unlike the past when I demanded conducting dialogue with separatists, the then Chief Minister threatened to throw them in Jhelum,” she said. Similarly, she said, when she raised the same demand before the then Prime Minister, I K Gujral at Qazigund, the then Chief Minister said he would revolt if talks are held.
Mehbooba Mufti said she was satisfied to note that people have changed opinions and the option of dialogue is getting greater acceptability. She said despite the two countries having fought four wars over it, Jammu & Kashmir continues to bleed and that is why dialogue with all stakeholders in the State has been prioritised in the Agenda of Alliance of the present Government.
The Chief Minister said the present state of uncertainty in Jammu & Kashmir has its roots in muzzling of dissent as a result of which many people who wanted to join the mainstream politics were forced to choose otherwise. Had the democratic exercises like 1987 election been conducted fairly and voices of dissent given the respect they deserved we wouldn’t have seen the terrible phases the State has been passing through, she added.
On the idea behind convening the special session of the legislature over GST, the Chief Minister said her Government believes in empowering this House and respecting the voices of dissent which unfortunately have been muzzled in the past. She said the aim is to allay fears and misunderstandings among people on this issue. She said this is for the first time in the legislative history of the State that wider consultations were held and a special session of the House was convened to decide whether or not to extend the law to the State.
Paying rich tributes to the leaders who passed away in the intervening period, the Chief Minister said those were the people who worked tirelessly for the welfare of people and society. She described late G C Saxena as a seasoned administrator who contributed to the State with his rich expertise and experience.
Mehbooba Mufti said late Ali Muhammad Naik worked till his last breath for his people which showed his commitment and resolve for the public life. She said the late leader would always bless the young legislators with his words of wisdom.
The Chief Minister described late S. Rangeel Singh as a decent human being for whom public service was in the genes. She said the late leader was a living example of harmony and brotherhood in Jammu. She also paid glowing tributes to Syed Nizamuddin, Rishi Kumar Koushal and Shanti Devi.
Strongly condemning the dastardly killing of six policemen at Thajiwara, Achabal, Mehbooba Mufti paid rich tributes to the policemen and civilians who were killed in various incidents of violence yesterday.

Later, the House stood in silence for two minutes to pay respects to the departed leaders.
