Panaji, Mar 23 :  The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) Saturday expelled its general secretary Lavoo Mamlatdar after he declared, in a letter to Speaker, that he was the sole authority to communicate on behalf of his party.

He was being expelled for six years for "anti-party activities", said the MGP, an ally of the ruling BJP in Goa.

He was MGP's MLA from Ponda from 2012 to 2017 before being defeated in the last election by Congress' Ravi Naik.

MGP chief Dipak Dhavalikar said the decision to expel Mamlatdar was taken by the party's Central Committee after it came to light that he had written a letter to the Assembly Speaker without taking the party into confidence.

The letter, sent Friday, informed that "official communication from the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party will be addressed only by the undersigned General Secretary (Mamlatdar), duly authorised of and by the party".

"You are... requested to ignore any communication received from any other person...," it said.

Dhavalikar said the central committee, which met Saturday, tried to persuade Mamlatdar to withdraw it.

"Since Mamlatdar was adamant on his stand despite committee members trying to persuade him for two hours, it was resolved to expel him for six years for anti-party activities and indiscipline," the MGP president said.

The decision would be vetted during the general body meeting of the party on March 30, he said.

When contacted, Mamlatdar claimed that he wrote to the Speaker because some leaders in the party had planned to drop party MLA and tourism minister Manohar Ajgaonkar from the state cabinet and replace him with Dipak Pawaskar.

The plan was to remove Ajgaonkar by writing to the Speaker by keeping the central committee in dark, he alleged.

"I was expelled because I sabotaged their plan," he said, adding that he would move a court against the decision to expel him.

Dhavalikar said there was no such plan to replace Ajgaonkar.                        [Agencies]

Panaji, Sep 15: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), an alliance partner in the Manohar Parrikar-led government in Goa, Saturday said it was "high time" the chief minister handed over the charge to the seniormost minister during his absence in the state.

Parrikar, 62, was flown to Delhi on Saturday for a follow-up treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). According to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sources, he is scheduled to undergo a series of tests in the afternoon at the AIIMS.

Parrikar has been undergoing treatment for his pancreatic ailment. Earlier this year, he had undergone a three-month-long treatment in the US. He had formed a Cabinet Advisory Committee to guide the state during his absence.

MGP, with its three legislators, has given support to the BJP to form the government in the state along with the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and other independent legislators.

Talking to reporters Saturday morning, MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar said, "It is high time Parrikar hands over the charge to the seniormost minister for smooth functioning of the government."

He said in the last eight months, the government has not been able to function smoothly.

Dhavalikar said Parrikar can remain the chief minister and hand over the charge to someone else in his absence.

When asked whether he wanted his elder brother and MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar to be given the charge, he said, "I don't know...let them tell who is the seniormost. I am just saying that whoever is given charge should be the seniormost. Let them tell who is the seniormost."

Sudin Dhavalikar, who is the the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, is the seniormost member in the Parrikar-led cabinet.

The MGP chief also ruled out any possibility of the MGP's merger with the BJP.

"There is no question of merger. We are not interested in the merger. It will never happen. We have built the party over several years and it is the hope for future of Goa's politics. We have 12-13 per cent vote share in the state, so where is the question of merging the party," Dhavalikar added.

Mumbai, Jul 5: City-based consumer body Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) has urged MahaRera to bring property portals under its ambit to further increase transparency and accountability in the real estate sector.

In a letter to MahaRera chief Gautam Chatterjee, a copy of which is with the, MGP said, "Real estate web portal companies operating in Maharashtra have to be treated as 'real estate agent' under Rera."

It has also sought registration of such portals under MahaRera in the next 60 days.

"With regard to the definition of real estate agent, we have no doubts that property portals like Magicbricks.com, Makaan.com, 99acres.com, among others, are acting as agents, facilitating buying/selling of properties. As such they are legally liable to register themselves with MahaRera," MGP chairman Shirish Deshpande told PTI.

He further said MGP has approached MahaRera and is awaiting its response.

"MGP is of the view that registration of property web portals under MahaRera will create more confidence in minds of homebuyers and will also make them accountable/ responsible to homebuyers," Deshpande added.

The Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act, 2016 (Rera), which came into full effect from May 2017, mandates everyone carrying out the activities of an 'agent' as defined by the Act to register themselves under Rera.

However, if a real estate portal is a mere platform where agents and builders are displaying their advertisement than it does not need registration.
