Mumbai, Feb 25 :  Activists of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) burned packets of spices they claimed to have been manufactured in Pakistan and being sold to customers, in Sanpada area of neighbouring Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

A MNS leader Monday said the party activists had got a tip-off that a shop in Sanpada node was selling packets of spices that are made in Karachi.

"Our activists first visited the shop concerned and purchased packets of spices which were found to be manufactured in Pakistan and being sold in Maharashtra," said Navi Mumbai MNS secretary Shrikant Mane.

Mane said the activists took out the packets of spices from the shop and set them on fire. "We warned the owner of the shop against selling Pakistani spices," he said.

After the protest, the party activists raised slogans against Pakistan while condemning the Pulwama terror attack of February 14 in which 40 troopers of CRPF were killed in a suicide bomb strike.

"We are submitting letters to the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) here asking it not to allow any local merchant to sell Pakistani spices," added Mane.                   [Agencies]

Mumbai, Sep 5: The MNS and the NCP Wednesday likened Maharashtra BJP legislator Ram Kadam to demon king Ravan for telling youngsters he would "kidnap" a girl they like even if she rejects their proposal.

The Ghatkopar MLA, who has expressed regret over his remarks, made the comments at a 'dahi handi' event in his suburban Ghatkopar assembly constituency Monday night.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena put up posters depicting Kadam as Ravan outside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' residence and in Ghatkopar.

"The 'dashing' MLA, who proclaims himself to be compassionate, will abduct daughters. If he or his men do so, file a police complaint and also let us know. We will help you safeguard your daughters," the Raj Thackeray-led party said in the posters.

Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Nawab Malik said the BJP's "Ravan-like" face is out and its legislator will be called "Ravan Kadam" till he apologises.

"Expressing regret and apologising are very different things. The NCP will keep protesting against him and call him 'Ravan Kadam' till he apologises. State-wide protests will be held against him till he apologises," the opposition leader said.

Kadam, who is heard making the comments in a video clip, has said his comments were distorted.

"I only repeated a sentence made by one of the persons standing in the crowd... It was not my sentence. The clip which has gone viral is only of 40 seconds. However, later I had said mothers, sisters and daughters in all households are Lakshmi who need to be respected," he said late Tuesday.

"Yet, if I have hurt sentiments, I express regret," the MLA said. (PTI)

Mumbai, Jul 17: Some members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) dug up a pavement outside the Mantralaya, the state secretariat here, in the wee hours today as a mark of protest against potholes on roads, police said.

At least eight MNS workers were arrested in this connection, a senior police official said.

"A group of around 20 workers of the MNS gathered outside the Mantralaya around 3 am today and started digging up a footpath using spades and other tools to protest against the potholes on roads," he said.

The police staff posted on duty at the Mantralaya rushed towards the protesters and tried to stop them, he said.

"All the MNS members present there were taken to the Marine Drive police station, where eight of them involved in digging up the footpath were arrested," Manojkumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone -I) said.

This comes a day after some MNS members attacked a government office in adjoining Navi Mumbai, to vent their ire over potholes dotting the 39-km stretch between Sion and Panvel.

Accidents on pothole-ridden roads have claimed five lives in adjoining Thane region since last month. The victims lost balance and fell as their two-wheeler hit potholes.  (PTI)

Thane, May 8: More than two dozen activists of Raj Thackeray-led MNS on Tuesday agitated and stalled the land survey work at Shil for the proposed bullet train.
Around 39.66 km of the bullet train route will pass through Thane district and the government plans to acquire around 2.41 hectares of land in Shil for the ambitious project.
Sandeep Pachange, Thane city president of the MNS’ youth wing and Thane region chief Avinash Jadhav led the agitators.
