Noted filmmaker Gautam Chakraborty to train for Media Students

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 03: With an aim to introduce media students to the aesthetics of documentary making, Arasta Trust in collaboration with Department of Information and Public Relation, Jammu and Kashmir Government is organizing 15-Day workshop on documentary filmmaking which began here today.
During the first day of workshop, noted filmmaker and teacher, Gautam Chakraborty introduced students to the fundamentals of documentary making, photography, videography and audio recording. He also discussed with students filmmaking techniques and approaches. 
The workshop which is scheduled from 3rd October 2017 to 15th October 2017, would expose students to the screening and analysis of selected portions of canonical and other important, relevant films and whole film, hands-on techno-aesthetic lessons, making presentations, exercises, projects and classroom, lab-based practical exercises with pre-generated customized rushes and self generated footage including outdoor shooting and making of a documentary proposal, pitch.
While talking to aspiring filmmakers, Chakraborty said that the documentaries have never been hotter or more commercially promisingwhether you are looking for a career or are out to change the world.  
The workshop is being attended by media students from Media Education Research Centre (MERC) University of Kashmir, Department of Journalism, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Department of Journalism, Government Degree College, Baramulla, Department of Journalism, Government College for Women, Srinagar, Department of Journalism, Government Degree College Anantnag.

Gautam Chakraborty is alumni of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune. He has also acquired diploma in Educational Audiovisual Media Programme from Europe and has been teaching in several premiere institutes including FTII, NID and IIMC.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 15: Noted freelance film maker and teacher, Gautam Chakraborty, in collaboration with Arasta Trust, is scheduled to conduct a workshop on 'Documentary Film Making' for media students of J&K at Media Complex, Polo View Srinagar from 3rd October 2017 to 15th October 2017.
The media students interested in attending the workshop should register themselves by sending their details through email onaudiovideounit@jkinformation.co in by 25th September 2017. The details of the student must include name, contact number, email address, name of institution, testimonials etc.
Only 20 students are to be shortlisted for the workshop on the basis of aptitude and merit.
The intending participants must possess some basic proficiency of video & audio in one of the basic edit-software, premier or FCP and basic digital photography, videography, audio recording.  They should be also ready with at least 5 documentary ideas with basic research based concept-note/write-up and representative stills/videos (with a mobile-phone camera). The spotlights for documentaries include history, theories, aesthetics, movements, genre/modes, applications, socio-politics, techniques & manifestations and contemporary trends.
The methodology of the workshop shall include classroom lecture-demonstrations, screening and analysis of selected portions of canonical and other important/relevant films and whole film, hands-on techno-aesthetic lessons, making presentations/exercises/projects and classroom/lab-based practical exercises with pre-generated customized rushes and self generated footage including outdoor shooting and making of a documentary proposal/pitch.

SRINAGAR, JULY 6: Minister of Finance and Labour & Employment, Dr Haseeb Drabu today visited the Media Complex at Poloview where an exhibition of rare archives and photographs is underway.
Dr Drabu appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in preserving the rare, pre-independence newspapers and photographs which document the rich cultural and political history of the State.

The Finance Minister assured that the State Government will extend all possible support in expanding the scope of activities undertaken by the Department which is the key bridge between people and the activities undertaken by the Government.
Dr Drabu also interacted with a group of students and research scholars from the University of Kashmir who were inside the venue of the exhibition in the lawns of Media Complex here. Wishing them well in their academic endeavours, the Finance Minister exhorted them to encourage a culture of quality research which is in the interest of Jammu and Kashmir.
A delegation of editors of prominent newspapers including Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Uzma editor-in-chief, Fayaz Kaloo, Daily Chattan editor, Tahir Mohiuddin, Kashmir Images editor, Bashir Manzar, M Y Taing, ex-Director, Information and Public Relations, Dr Farooq Kaloo, Former Director, Animal Husbandry and civil society member, among others also visited the exhibition.
Director Information, Muneer-ul-Islam, Joint Director Information, Abdul Majid Zargar, Deputy Director (PR), Sheikh Zahoor and other officers of the Department accompanied the Minister during the tour of the exhibition.

Turns nostalgic on seeing preserved copies of Hamdard

SRINAGAR, JULY 05: Mrs Vijaya Bazaz daughter of noted author and Kashmiri journalist late Prem Nath Bazaz visited the exhibition of rare newspaper archives at the Media Complex here today. She was accompanied by her husband Er Omkar Razdan, who is working with Transparency International, India Chapter.
Mrs Vijaya Bazaz turned nostalgic when she saw the preserved copies of Hamdard Newspaper which was being published from Srinagar by her father late Prem Nath Bazaz in 1930s.
I have come all along from New Delhi to see the archived copies of the newspaper which was being edited by my father, Mrs Vijaya Bazaz said. She expressed gratitude to the Department of Information and Public Relations for having preserved the copies of the newspaper.
The exhibition of rare newspaper archives and photographs was inaugurated by the Minister for Information, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali and Minister for Works, Mr Naeem Akhtar at the Media Complex here yesterday.

The exhibition will remain open for the public till 6 July 2017.
