Kohima, Jun 29: An Assam Rifles jawan was injured in twin IED blasts triggered by NSCN(K) insurgents in Phek district of Nagaland, an officer of the paramilitary force said.

The blasts took place near Akhegwo village when a road opening party of the paramilitary force was providing security for the passage of an Assam Rifles convoy at 3 pm yesterday, he said.

The Assam Rifles jawan suffered splinter injuries on his chest and leg in the blasts, which took place within a gap of some time, he said.

He was immediately evacuated to the Army Hospital in Jorhat, where his condition is stated to be stable, he said.

The Assam Rifles convoy was coming from Kiphire district.

The NSCN(K), in a statement, has claimed responbility for the blasts.

Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and four others suffered injuries in an ambush by insurgents of the same outfit near Aboi in Mon district on June 17.

New Delhi, Mar 15: The new Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio arrived here in the national capital on Wednesday evening for a series of meeting with central leaders and union Ministers including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to sources, Mr Rio who is heading NDPP-BJP government is likely to call on Mr Modi on Thursday.
Both the leaders are expected to discuss about developmental projects especially infrastructure works like roads and also on the Naga political issue that is awaiting a final agreement between the centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak Muivah faction (NSCN-IM).
This is Mr Rio's first visit to the national capital after he took over as the new Chief Minister earlier this month.
Mr Rio has been Chief Minister of the state between 2003 and 2014 May - when he had shifted to Delhi as state's lone Lok Sabha MP.
On the eve of polls in Nagaland, he quit NPF and joined the newly floated NDPP and also resigned his Lok Sabha seat.
During his stay in the capital, Mr Rio will hold talks with several other central ministers including Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
He is also likely to meet National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the source added.
Meanwhile, sources said under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in North East, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved construction of 12 road stretches in the state. UNI

New Delhi, Jan 13: Climax over the possibility of postponement of elections to Nagaland assembly still remains as pressure seems to be mounting on the Centre to expedite the peace process and ongoing negotiations with the militant groups.
Former Chief Minister and state's lone Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio on Friday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here and impressed upon him the the desire of the Naga People for "solution to Naga political problem before election", according to sources in the Nagaland People's Front (NPF).
Elections are due in February-March and the tenure of the present Nagaland Legislative Assembly expires on March 13, 2018.
NPF is a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and is at power in the state since 2003.
The Central government is keen for negotiated settlement to the decades old Naga problem with two potent groups National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-Isak Muivah faction) and NSCN (Khaplang).
While parleys are at crucial stage with NSCN (IM), with whom first talks had begun in 1997; the talks have to be started afresh with NSCN (Khaplang) as the group had abrogated the ceasefire with the Government of India in 2015. The Nagaland government in consultation with the Centre had been sending delegations to meet the NSCN(K) leadership in Myanmar to convince the rebel outfit to re-enter the peace process to find an early solution to the Naga political problem, sources said.
The death of NSCN(K) chief S S Khaplang on June 9, 2017 has weakened the group and there are indications that they too could forward for talks once again.
On January 8, Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang despatched a letter appealing to the Khaplang faction to revisit the peace process with the central government once again.
In his meeting with Mr Singh, senior NPF leader Mr Rio, who supports NDA regime headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also lauded the efforts being made by the centre to bring an early solution to the vexed Naga problem.
Former Nagaland unit BJP president, Dr M Chuba Ao and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav were also present at the meeting.
Mr Rio, who was Chief Minister since 2003 till 2014 May when he moved to Delhi as MP, is also likely to hold discussions with BJP chief Amit Shah, sources said.
Election dates for Tripura and Meghalaya along with Nagaland could be announced anytime.
However, the government has reportedly requested Election Commission to defer announcing poll dates for Nagaland at least by few days.
During the meeting between Mr Singh and Mr Rio, it was also emphasised that holding of elections in states including in Nagaland is a "constitutional obligation" and thus this could not be deferred for long.
In case of deferment of polls, President's Rule may be imposed in the northeastern state. UNI

New Delhi/Kohima, Dec 18: Even as the centre is making forward march in the peace process for a possible agreement with National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-Isak Muivah) faction, the rival faction NSCN (Khaplang) has paid a "heavy price" for their June 4, 2015 attack on army convoy.
According to sources, in the state government and also with central agencies, at least 530 underground cadres of NSCN-K and 542 'overground' workers were arrested in Manipur and Nagaland following intensive and multi-pronged operations launched after the June 4, 2015 attack on the Army personnel in Manipur.
The dastardly act by NSCN(K) rebels in one of the worst attacks against army personnel in recent years in north east had claimed lives of 18 army personnel. Eleven others were injured when Naga militants had ambushed army convoy in Manipur’s Chandel district.
Sources further said the intensive operations have yielded results as NSCN(K) has been now much "weakened" and the movement too has been restricted.
The attack on army convoy was carried out by NSCN(K) after the group had abrogated the ceasefire agreement and walked out from the peace process on March 27, 2015.
The government is, however, maintaining ceasefire with NSCN(IM), with which the peace parleys are said to be at a critical stage.
Elections are due in Nagaland by February 2018 and all eyes are now on the central government and also NSCN(IM) for a formal pact to resolve the long pending issue.
The NSCN-IM, which had joined the peace process in August 1997 during the tenure of I K Gujral as Prime Minister, and the centre had on August 3, 2015 signed a framework agreement.
The framework agreement had, however, remained clouded in controversy as then Congress-ruled Assam and Manipur state governments had opposed it saying they were kept in dark in the entire process.
However, both the states have seen political changes since then and BJP is running the administrations in these two states.
Elections are also due by February 2018 in two other northeastern states - the CPI-M ruled Tripura and the Congress-ruled Meghalaya. UNI
