SRINAGAR, AUGUST 01: Describing Kashmir as a premiere tourist destination, Advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, today urged the tour and travel industry in the State to join hands in framing an effective strategy to change the negative perception which adversely affects the footfall of visitors the valley.
He said Kashmir is as safe as any other tourist destination in world, unlike the one projected by a section of the media.
The Advisor said this while interacting with a delegation of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, here today.   
Secretary Tourism, Rigzian Sampheal, Director Tourism Kashmir, Tassaduq Jeelani, Chairman, PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI), J&K Chapter, Mushtaq Chaya and other representatives of PHDCCI were present on the occasion.
Seeking support from all stakeholders connected with the tour and travel industry in the state, Ganai said the efforts of the Government would bear positive results only if we are able to break the negative stereotyping that seems to have stuck with Kashmir for the last few years. “The proof of the pudding lies in the eating. Let you all form linkages with your counterparts in other states and invite them to FAM tours here,” Ganai suggested. 
Urging the participants to recognize the reach of media, especially Doordarshan, the Advisor said using the platform of Prasar Bharti will go a long way in portraying Kashmir in its right perspective.  
Ganai also discussed in detail the steps being taken by the Tourism Department in increasing tourist arrivals in the State. He also invited suggestions on how the tour and travel industry can scale up and come up to the expectations to the travelers from across the country and abroad.
The Advisor revealed the tourism department is preparing to host a Kashmir festival in near future. Giving details regarding the festival, he said people affiliated with the tourism sector especially tour operators, travel writers, and bloggers have been invited to get the first-hand appraisal of the situation in Valley and assess how different the situation is than what a section of media is projecting.
He informed the PHDCCI delegation that in near future that a delegation from State would also be travelling to major cities of the country, including Gujrat, Maharashtra, Calcutta, Tamil Naidu to hold roadside shows, and interactions with major stakeholders.
Earlier, the PHDCCI Kashmir Chapter delegated apprised the Advisor with various issues and sought his intervention to address them at an earliest.
The delegation requested for implementation of Government order to treat hotels and resorts at par with the industries for payment of power tariff. Besides, they were also seeking reimbursement of SGST to hotels, restaurants, banquets, and travel companies, in addition of taking up the case with GST Council for reimbursement of CGST to the hotels, restaurants, banquets and travel companies of the State.
The meeting was informed that PHDCCI Kashmir Chapter is intending to organize, PHD Golf Tourism Conclave and Tournament from September 22-23, 2018 at SKICC, which will be attended by Ministry of Tourism Officials, Embassies and High Commissions, Indian and Foreign Golf tour operators, State and International Tourism Boards, Hoteliers, and others.
Seeking support of the Government in the endeavor, the delegation said the objective of organizing the event is to promote the Golf courses across India, especially of the State and to boost the tourism sector of the State.
The delegation also raised other issues related education, social welfare, revenue, horticulture, horticulture and animal husbandry.
The Advisor listened to their issues patiently and assured that all the issued will be looked into and will be forwarded to the concerned departments for their early disposal.

JAMMU, MARCH 13: A joint delegation of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Hotel & Restaurant Association of Katra led by Sh. Anil Khaitan, National President PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, met Governor N.N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan and apprised him about their views about the steps needed to be taken to promote tourism in J&K.
The delegation suggested wide publicity to potential tourist places in and around Katra, enhanced participation in trade fairs, larger scale celebration of festivals like navratras, constructing Ghats at Banganga and enhanced health care facilities.
Governor expressed concern over the issues of cleanliness and sanitation in Katra town and observed that the owners of the very large number of hotels in Katra and all other stakeholders should collectively get involved with effective garbage collection, garbage disposal, solid waste management and Sewerage treatment as such responsibility shall contribute  towards Katra being developed  as a model town.

New Delhi, Feb 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday held substantive and productive discussions on cooperation in trade and investment, energy, connectivity, defence and security and regional issues.
After a bilateral meeting between PM Modi and the visiting Iranian President, agreements were signed in areas like double taxation avoidance, extradition, agricultural cooperation, port lease, medicine and others. 
'Civilisational connect, contemporary context! PM narendramodi welcomed President of Iran Dr. Rouhani to India. Both leaders held substantive & productive discussion on cooperation in trade & investment, energy, connectivity, defence & security & regional issues,' spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Raveesh Kumar said in a tweet.
'On sidelines of the bilateral meeting between PM @narendramodi and Iranian President Dr. Rouhani, agreements were signed in areas like double taxation avoidance, extradition, agricultural cooperation, port lease, medicine and others,' he said.
Addressing a joint press interaction with Mr Rouhani, PM Modi said, 'the visit by the Iranian president shows how the two sides want to deepen cooperation in key areas, including connectivity.'
Mr Modi said that during his talks with the Iranian president, they discussed threats posed by terrorism, drug trafficking and other challenges.
Speaking during the joint interaction, Mr Rouhani said, "We are determined to combat terrorism and extremism."
The Iranian leader also said that regional conflicts must be resolved through diplomacy and political initiatives.
PM Modi also appreciated the way the Iranian leader provided leadership in developing the strategically-important Chabahar Port. 
Expressing concern on the issue of terrorism, Mr Modi said both countries want to see our neighbours free of terrorism. 
'The two countries want to see our neighbour Afghanistan safe and prosper. We want to see our neighbours free of terrorism. I thank you for the way you provided leadership in developing Chabahar Port,' the PM told the Iranian President.
Mr Rouhani said relations between the two countries go beyond trade and business. 'It goes back in history,' he said.
The countries signed an agreement for exchange of information between the two contracting parties as per latest international standards.
It will improve transparency in tax matters and help curb tax evasion and tax avoidance.
They also signed an agreement for Avoidance of Double Taxation & Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on income. The agreement will stimulate flow of investment, technology and personnel from India to Iran and vice versa and prevent double taxation.
Other MoUs signed between the two countries include an MoU between EEPC India and Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.; MoU between Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA); MoU between the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines & Agriculture (ICCIMA) and between PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA).
An MoU on Postal Cooperation has also been signed envisaging cooperation between the two postal agencies including exchange of experience, knowledge and technology in e-commerce/logistics services; cooperation on philately; establishment of working group of experts; feasibility studies on using air and surface transit capacities of both countries Earlier, Mr Rouhani was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan where he was welcomed by President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Modi.

JV will immensely improve quality, structure of local economy: Dr Drabu

Jammu: The PHD Chamber Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI)-J&K Chapter held an impressive function at Hotel Radisson Blu wherein the Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb A Drabu was honoured for signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai Ports World for building two dry ports in Srinagar and Jammu besides presenting an industry and people friendly Budget.    
Minister for Education Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Horticulture Basharat Bukhari and Minister for Industries & Commerce were special guests on the occasion. The function was attended by several other legislators and top officials besides members of the business fraternity from Jammu as well as Kashmir.
Dr Drabu was presented with a shawl and PHD Plate for doing great job in the society. The other cabinet ministers were also honored.
While speaking on the occasion, the chairmen of PHDCCI Jammu and Kashmir chapters hailed the role played by Finance Minister in boosting the economy of the state and expressed that decision to build two dry ports in Jammu and Kashmir is a step in right direction.
They said the need of creating such a facility in the state was most essential element of logistics required to enhance the scope for growth of our export oriented business, be that the export of handicraft, horticulture, agriculture, floriculture or any other allied product worldwide.
Dr Drabu expressed gratitude to PHDCCI J&K for supporting the government in its endeavors and expressed that Dry Ports to be established by the Dubai Ports World and the J&K Government through Joint Venture at Jammu and Srinagar will immensely improve the quality and structure of the local economy.
“The proposed Multi Modal Logistics Parks (Dry Ports) will facilitate faster movement of local produce to the processing centres and the markets outside. This will raise the income of farmers, industrialists, traders and businessmen and create a large number of jobs,” Dr Drabu said.
He also expressed gratitude to his Cabinet colleagues present on the occasion in facilitating people and industry Budget. He also expressed that in this year government would be able to spend available funds to the tune of Rs 80,000 crore.
