JAMMU, APRIL 5: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Choudhary today took stock of the pace of progress on on-going de-silting and cleanliness of main Ranbir Canal and its Distributory-I.
The Minister along with a team of concerned engineers visited several locations including, Beli Charana, Rajinder Park, Shakti Nagar Paloura, Patoli and Muthi   along the Ranbir canal, besides Kanha Chak, Hira Chak, Gajansoo, Galwadian, Pola Chak and Marh areas on the Distributory-I to review the progress of works.
At Shakti Nagar, the Minister took serious view of the pile of construction material by locals on the bank of canal and directed the officials to take immediate steps to remove the same immediately and issue a warning to the people indulging in such unlawful practise. He said such acts are punishable under law and the department should proceeds against the violators who try to damage the government assets. He also appealed the locals to help in maintaining sanitation along canals and do not put garbage in it.  
Taking serious note of tardy pace of de-silting at Patoli and Paloura, Choudhary directed the concerned to work in double shift and complete the remaining work within stipulated time frame that is before April 11 so that the water in the canal is released on Baisakhi eve.
The Minister asked the concerned for identifying the places and formulation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for setting-up of Lift Irrigation Schemes and digging of tube wells to ensure supply of irrigation water at the tail end of the canals.  A number of projects stand prepared and submitted under Prime Minister Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) to meet the requirements of irrigation to every field in the State, he added.


Minister orders timely completion, proper dumping of retrieved garbage

Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today kick-started the de-silting of Ranbir canal. The de-silting on 13 kms stretch from Jammu to canal head is being executed jointly by the Mechanical Engineering and Irrigation & Flood Control departments.
On the occasion, the Minister said that it is the commitment of government to provide better irrigation facilities to the people of the state. He said that de-silting of other canals and their tributaries is also being started so that timely discharging of water in these canals is ensured.  He directed the concerned for accelerating the pace of work ensuring its timely completion so that farmers do not face any inconvenience during the ensuing crop seasons.
Directing the concerned for personally monitoring the de-silting process of canal to ensure its timely completion, the Minister said that the de-silting should be done up to the bed of the canal and garbage retrieved from the canal should be properly dumped. He also asked them to carry out repair and renovation of vulnerable spots of canal.
Sham Choudhary said that de-silting work is being carried-out by the department due to the shortage of time, adding that the interested contractors can also take part in de-silting process, the Minister maintained.
The Minister was informed that besides machinery, manpower has also been engaged to clear the bushes to maintain the cleanliness along the canal.
Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Jammu, ADC Jammu, senior Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanical Departments were present on the occasion.
Says Govt paying focused attention to upgrade infra facilities in rural areas


RAIPUR-DOMANA (JAMMU), NOVEMBER 10 Fulfilling the long pending demand of people, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today announced two vital bridges in Raipur-Domana constituency to connect dozens of villages in the vicinity of Mishriwala-Bawa Talab, Simbliwala, Burn etc.
          The new bridges will be constructed over Ranbir Canal at Mishriwala and Simbliwala to facilitate thickly populated localities across the Canal. The already existing small culverts in the area do not cater to the needs of the locals and need for dependable and upgraded bridges was badly felt by the locals for the past over many years.
          Addressing a largely attended public meeting at village Simbliwala in Raipur-Domana constituency near here today, the Minister said that it is endeavor of the BJP-PDP Government to ensure better infrastructural facilities in all parts of the State with special thrust to rural and far-flung areas, for which a comprehensive plan has been devised. He said road sector is key to the overall development and prosperity of people and Government has been paying focused attention towards this vital area after taking over the reign of the State.
          Expressing happiness after announcing the bridges, the Minister said that the facilities will facilitate thousands of residents of over two- dozen villages located across the Canal. He issued on-the-spot instructions to the engineers of the concerned departments to immediately start the work and complete the projects in a shortest possible time. He said multifarious activities have been increased in the area and demand of bridges was quite genuine  said the Minister.
          While updating the status of other important road projects in the constituency, the Minister said that the important alternate road connecting Jammu with Akhnoor-Poonch-Rajouri via Bantalab-Amb Gharota has already been sanctioned for widening under CRF programme at an estimated cost of Rs. 19 crore and work on this vital project is in full swing. He said the blacktopping of completed stretches will be commenced soon to provide immediate succor to the people who are facing difficulty due to constructional activities.
Similarly, the work on link road from Kote to Kala Kam-Burn Pata under NABARD is also in progress with the involvement of Rs. 4.91 crore. The link road from Purkhu Migrant Camp to Taku Chack has also been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.50 crore under NABARD. On completion of these projects there will be great relief to the people of this area which otherwise remained neglected by the previous regimes, said the Minister.
          Responding to the demand of the locals, the Minister also announced Rs. 5 lakh from his Constituency Development Funds for the up-gradation/beautification of pond at village Ratti Chappadi. He also assured to examine all other demands of the area on priority, which are related to the overall development of the people. He issued specific instructions to the functionaries of the PHE Department to monitor the regular supply of drinking water. He directed for formulating a foolproof plan to meet the drinking water needs of the Kandi belt besides  directing  to conceive a project to lift the water from Chenab River for the vulnerable areas.

          The sectoral officers of various departments, Sarpanchs, Panchs and prominent leaders of the area were also present on the occasion.

 JAMMU, JULY 08 - Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today visited Bishnah and took stock of irrigation facilities being provided to farmers through Ranbir Canal.
 While inspecting Distributory-9 from Bana Chak to Mian Chak, the Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the dilapidated condition of various irrigation channels. He issued on-spot directions to the concerned engineers to ensure proper upkeep of irrigation facilities up to the tail end so that the same are provided to the farming community to boost agriculture production.
He also directed the officers to take stern action and remove illegal pump connections besides checking illegal discharge of water from distributaries and ensuring cleanliness of the canal.
 Terming agriculture as backbone of nation, the Minister said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has already spelt out the vision of doubling farmers' income by 2022 and efforts are underway to convert that vision into reality, adding that state government has also taken various path braking measures in this regard.
 Superintending Engineer (Hydraulics), Executive Engineers, AEEs, JEs besides other concerned officers accompanied the Minister during the visit.

 Later, the Minister convened a meeting with senior officers of the department and directed them to immediately repair the irrigation channels so that the farmers get sufficient water for irrigating their fields.
