Rs. 42.97 Crore approved for procurement of disaster management equipment
SRINAGAR, JULY 21: The State Executive Committee (SEC) of State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), headed by Chief Secretary, Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam on Saturday allocated funds to the tune of Rs. 42.97 Crore for procurement of essential equipment for disaster management in the state.
This was the second meeting of the SEC in a week with the earlier meeting held on 16th of July, 2018.
The meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner, H&UDD, Director General of Police, J&K, Director General, Fire & Emergency Services, Principal Secretary, Home, Principal Secretary, Finance, Principal Secretary, H&ME, ADGP, Home Guards/CD/SDRF, Administrative Secretaries of PDD, Revenue, PWD, DMRRR, PHE/I&FC, RDD, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and other senior officers. Divisional Commissioner Jammu participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
Out of the allocated funds of Rs. 42.97 Crore, Rs. 7.50 Crore each were approved for placement at the disposal of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Divisional Commissioner Jammu,  Rs. 15 Crore for placement at the disposal of Director General, Fire & Emergency Services, J&K and Rs. 12.97 Crore for placement at the disposal of ADGP Home Guards/CD/SDRF for procurement of disaster management equipments like search and rescue equipment, raft boats, tents, satellite phones, etc.
It is pertinent to mention that the SEC in its earlier meeting held on 16th of July, 2018, approved Rs. 5 Crore each, for placement at the disposal of Deputy Commissioners so that funds meant for disaster relief are readily available at the District level. The SEC also approved allocation of Rs. 5.62 Crore for Home Guards for procurement of critical rescue equipment and Rs. 5.61 Crore for procurement of advanced network command and control system.
The enhanced allocations to the Departments/Agencies and Deputy Commissioners will immensely help the State Administration to promptly and effectively respond to various natural disasters that the State is prone to and also augment any deficiency in the relief and rescue equipment.

Lucknow, Nov 30: The counting of votes cast in civic elections to local bodies in the state will commence at 0800 hrs on Friday amid tight security arrangements and the Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission is confident of releasing all results latest by 1900 hrs the same day.
The results would reflect on the performance of UP ministers and BJP state unit’s leadership as observers have viewed the civic elections as a litmus test for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The fate of 79,113 candidates in fray for 12,647 posts in 16 municipal corporations, 198 municipalities and 438 town areas in the counting of votes. While voting for municipal corporations was held through EVMs, traditional ballot papers were used for municipality and town areas.
Surprisingly, vote percentage increased in all but one district, Mathura. An increase of six per cent was reported in 74 districts as compared to the last civic elections that were held in 2012.
State Election Commissioner (SEC) S K Agarwal on Thursday that all measures have been taken for smooth conduct of the counting in all the 75 districts. A total of 11,200 counting tables would be set up in the state, of which 6,000 alone would be for 16 corporations.
“This would be for the first time that the certificate of the winning candidate would be uploaded on the Commission's website and it would be downloaded by the returning officer, signed and then handed over to the winners,” he said. “We have set a target to complete the counting process by seven hours but, at any cost, all the results would be declared by 1900 hrs,” the Commissioner said.
Mr Agarwal said also for the first time, voters would also be informed by the Commission about winners in their respective wards.
“Around 15 million voters have so far registered themselves with the Commission's website to get results. The results will be sent to voters through SMS on their registered mobile phones,” he said. UNI

Lucknow, Nov 20: Campaigning for the crucial first phase of elections to urban local bodies in Uttar Pradesh ended on Monday evening for districts where polling would be held on November 22.
Altogether 24 districts will go to polls in the first phase, including elections to mayoral posts. Polling would be held from 0730 hrs to 1700 hrs amid tight security. Polling in the other two phases would be held on November 26 and 29, while counting of votes for all the three phases would be done on December 1 and results are expected to be declared the same day. The districts going to polls in the first phase on November 22 are Shamli, Meerut, Hapur, Bijnore, Badaun, Hathras, Kasganj, Agra, Kanpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Unnao, Hardoi, Amethi, Faizabad, Gonda, Basti, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur and Sonebhadra. This would be the first political test of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in the state which came to power on March 19. The BJP is leaving no stone unturned in the campaigning with the CM leading the campaign by addressing several election rallies in the poll-bound districts. Other senior BJP leaders, too, are actively campaigning including state president Mahendra Nath Pandey. While Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have left campaigning to its second-rank leaders, Congress has engaged senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Raj Babbar to address election meetings in selected pockets of the state. State Election Commissioner (SEC) S K Agarwal told UNI here on Sunday that all arrangements for smooth conduct of the first phase have been made. The poll personnel would start reaching their booths by the evening of November 21 along with security personnel. For the first time, around 40 companies of central paramilitary forces have been given to the state to maintain law and order during the elections. In the first phase of polling, voting would be held in 24 districts covering five Municipal Corporations, 71 Municipalities and 154 Nagar Panchayats. A total of 230 local bodies will go to polls in the first phase, covering 4,095 wards. There are 1.09 crore voters in this phase who will exercise their franchise at 11,679 booths. According to the break-up, five Municipal Corporations in five districts will go to polls, spread over 430 wards served by 4,697 booths. Similarly, elections will be held in 1,819 wards under 71 municipalities in 22 districts. Further, elections will be held for 152 Nagar panchayats in 24 districts comprising 1,846 wards.
