Santirbazar (Tripura), Feb 15: Urging the electorate of Tripura - a renowned Marxists' citadel - to vote out CPI-M regime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said his government is committed to build a 'New India' and the efforts will definitely include all the endeavours to build a 'new Tripura'.
"We want to enhance connectivity in Tripura. In our journey to build a 'New India', we also want to build a modern and new Tripura.....To open the door to Tripura's growth, I urge people of the state to remove the communists from power," Mr Modi said addressing an election on the penultimate day of the campaign.
The high-profile election campaign for February 18 polls will come to an end on Friday.
Amid repeated sloganeering 'Chalo Paltai (Come, let us Change)', Mr Modi said: "Time has come to give account of what Left Front government has been doing and enjoying for the last 20-25 years."
Mr Modi urged the voters of Tripura to vote out the CPI-M led dispensation and said the true tributes to the martyred youths who have been killed from time to time by the communist cadres will be to cast vote against the Left candidates.
"The day of paying tributes to these youths who died fighting the Leftists is February 18," Prime Minister said addressing an election rally at Santirbazar here.
He said the CPI-M regime had developed complacency that they would never be ousted from the power. This was because they always had an "understanding" with the Congress and thus, Prime Minister said, he did not know why Congress party is staging a 'drama' by pretending that they too want to contest elections in Tripura.
He described Congress as the "vote cutter" party which is only trying to help the CPI-M.
"Both the CPI-M and the Congress are the same....They had understanding in West Bengal too," he cautioned the voters.
Prime Minister said the CPI-M led Left Front regime believes in "Hinsa Karo-Raj Karo (political violence)" but the voters should exercise their right harbouring no apprehensions.
“Elections should be held in free and fair manner. Entire country expects that the Election Commission which is an autonomous body that it will ensure that there is no violence in Tripura till the election process is over,” he said.
Prime Minister said, it is a "challenge" for the Election Commission to conduct the polls in free and fair manner.
"Till February 18 and till the results are out and a BJP-led government is installed, there should be no violence in Tripura,” he said.
Santirbazar assembly seat in South Tripura is a tribal dominated constituency.
"I have come here because all of you desired that I visit you," Prime Minister said.
The BJP has fielded Pramod Reang while the Left candidate from the constituency is from CPI - Manindra Reang. The Congress nominee from the seat is Baneti Reang.
In fact, Santirbazar is a known Left bastion as Manindra Reang has been winning the seat since 2003. UNI
