Virudhunagar(TN), Sept 8: Three persons were killed and two others injured in an explosion at a fireworks unit in the district Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred this morning when workers of the private cracker unit in Kakivadanpatti were mixing chemicals required for manufacturing fireworks, they said, adding the explosion took place due to friction.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital, police said.
Fire tenders rushed to the spot to put out the fire.

Virudhunagar, Apr 7: Seven members of a family were killed and two others seriously injured,
when a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling collided
head-on with a sugar-laden lorry at Devathanam village near Rajapalayam on the
Madurai-Tirunelveli National Highway, in the wee hours of Saturday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the occupants of the
ill-fated SUV hailed from Bengaluru and were returning to their native place
after an excursion to Kerala.
The injured were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital
at Madurai, where their condition was stated to be critical.
