Bengaluru, Aug 23: Three Bengaluru-based youths were killed and ten others injured in an accident on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru national highway when one of the tyres of the SUV in which they were travelling burst, police said today.

The accident occurred at Thigalarapalya in Magadi taluk of Ramanagara district yesterday when the SUV's rear tyre burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle which flipped several times before coming to a halt, they said.

All the 13 people in the car were travelling to Nagamangala in Mandya district on a road trip, police said.

Harish Rao, Ujwal and Rakshan, in their early 20s, have been identified among dead, police said, adding that the others who had suffered injuries, including fractures, are out of danger.

Police rushed to the help of the victims after being informed by a passerby and called for ambulances and drove them to a private hospital.

Three of them were declared brought dead by the hospital, police said. (PTI)

Shivpuri/Burhanpur (MP), Aug 13: Seven people, including four teachers, were killed in two road accidents in Madhya Pradesh, police officials said today.

Four people, all government teachers, were killed when the SUV (sports utility vehicle) they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck parked on the roadside on the Gwalior-Biaora Highway in Shivpuri district, an official said.

Four other occupants of the car were injured in the mishap that took place near Shripur village, about 55km from the district headquarters, at around 5.30 am, Rajiv Tripathi, in-charge of the Badarwas Police Station in Shivpuri district, said.

A group of eight teachers was travelling in the SUV and returning to Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh from a trip to Agra in adjoining Uttar Pradesh when the mishap took place, he said.

The deceased were identified as Bharat Singh (55), Vishnu Sen (47), Ramesh Chandra Rai (50) and Makhan Singh (42), all posted in government schools in Sehore district, Tripathi added.

In the second accident, three people travelling on a motorcycle were killed when a truck hit their vehicle near Transport Nagar in Burhanpur town last night, Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Shrivastava said.

The deceased were identified as Mohammed Yakub (23), Ashfaq (19) and Sayyad Aamir (22), he added. (PTI)

Bhadohi (UP), Aug 10: Two persons were killed and four others injured when an SUV hit them near Amiya village, the police said today.

The incident took place yesterday night when N Gautam (35) and Ajit (25) and four others were returning from Allahabad after paying obeisance at the Kundaura Mahadev Temple, they said.

All of them were rushed to a hospital where Gautam and Ajit died during treatment.

The SUV driver managed to flee from the spot. An FIR has been lodged in this connection.

A probe is on in the matter. (PTI)

Kolkata, Jul 26: Korean auto-maker KIA Motors is betting big on its maiden India launch with a mid-sized SUV and plans to introduce five models within three years beginning 2019, a company official said.

KIA Motors, the second-largest auto-maker in Korea after Hyundai with a 30 per cent market share, would launch the SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) in the second half of 2019 produced from its upcoming facility at Andhra Pradesh.

"The demand is now towards the SUV segment. We are launching our first car in the Indian market which would be a mid-sized SUV," Manohar Bhat, head (sales and marketing) of KIA Motors India, told reporters here today.

Unlike Maruti and Hyundai, which tasted success in India by launching small cars initially, Bhat said that KIA will launch the SUV because the market has towards that segment.

Executive director of KIA Motors India Yong S Kim said that India was the final step in the global footprint of KIA Motors.

"In India, we want to be among the top five automakers in the three years of launch in 2019," he said.

He said that the Indian plant was being set up at an investment of USD 1.1 billion and would give direct employment to 3,000 people.

The plant would have an annual capacity of three lakh cars, Kim added.

The plant was being built on 600 acres and would be fully operational by the second half of 2019, he said.

"Primarily, KIA plans to sell its products in the domestic market," Kim said. (PTI)

Muzaffarnagar, June 12: One person was killed and eight others were injured when their SUV collided with a state roadways bus on Delhi-Dehradun Nationl Highway here, police today.
The incident occurred last evening near Chapar. 
The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Chander Kiran while eight injured, including a woman, were recuperating at a hospital, police added.

Shamli, UP, Apr 10: Nine members of a family were killed and three others injured 
when a SUV collided with a truck on the Meerut-Karnal highway in the district on Tuesday morning.
The occupants were on way back to Meerut after paying obeisance at Vaishno Devi.
Police said the driver of the SUV lost control over his steering and his vehicle jumped the divider and collided with a truck coming from opposite direction on the other lane. The truck overturned after the collision.
The accident occurred near Laxmanpur village under Jhijhana police station area at 0600 hrs. The deceased included four women and a child, police spokesperson Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said.
While seven died on the spot, two other succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Among the injured, the truck driver was also critically injured. 
The deceased were identified as Sangita, Premwati, Jai Kishan, Jai Dev, Nidhi, Neetu, Savtri Devi and Jai Ram Tevetia along with two-year-old Honey.

Virudhunagar, Apr 7: Seven members of a family were killed and two others seriously injured, when a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling collided head-on with a sugar-laden lorry at Devathanam village near Rajapalayam on the Madurai-Tirunelveli National Highway, in the wee hours of Saturday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the occupants of the ill-fated SUV hailed from Bengaluru and were returning to their native place after an excursion to Kerala. 
The injured were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital at Madurai, where their condition was stated to be critical.

Lucknow, Dec 2: Six people were rounded up in connection with the murder of contractor Mohammad Tariqhad in the state capital on Friday.
A native of Jaunpur and reportedly a confidant of jailed eastern Uttar Pradesh gangster Munna Bajrangi, 38-year-old Tariqhad shifted to Lucknow recently from Varanasi to continue his work as contractor. 
On Friday around 1800 hrs, he was driving in his SUV in the direction of Dayal’s Paradise Hotel in Gomti Nagar Extension area in the state capital. As he reached Gwari flyover, some unidentified men on two motor-cycles signalled to him to halt, but sensing danger Tariq tried to speed away. The bikers then opened fire, as a result of which Tariq lost control over the steering and after colliding with the road divider his bullet-riddled SUV came to a halt. The attackers continued firing at Tariq. Two of the bullets pierced Tariq’s body and he died instantaneously. The attackers were said to have fired at least eight rounds. UNI

Kolkata, Nov 21: Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, has signed a framework agreement with Uber, the ride sharing company, to sell tens of thousands of autonomous driving compatible base vehicles between 2019 and 2021.
The base vehicles are developed on Volvo Cars’ fully modular, in-house developed Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). SPA is one of the most advanced car architectures in the world and is currently used on Volvo Cars’ top-of-the-line 90 series cars as well as on the new XC60 midsize SUV. The non-exclusive agreement enhances the strategic partnership between Volvo Cars and Uber announced in August 2016 and also marks a new chapter in the convergence of car makers and Silicon Valley-based technology companies, a Volvo Auto India spokesperson here today said. “The automotive industry is being disrupted by technology and Volvo Cars chooses to be an active part of that disruption,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive.
“Our aim is to be the supplier of choice for AD ride-sharing service providers globally.
Today’s agreement with Uber is a primary example of that strategic direction.” Volvo Cars’ engineers have worked closely together with engineers from Uber to develop the XC90 premium SUVs that are to be supplied to Uber. The base vehicles incorporate all necessary safety, redundancy and core autonomous driving technologies that are required for Uber to add its own self-driving technology. “We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with Volvo,” said Jeff Miller, Head of Auto Alliances, Uber. “This new agreement puts us on a path towards mass produced self-driving vehicles at scale.
”At the same time as providing Uber with AD compatible cars, Volvo will use the same base vehicle in the development of its own independent autonomous car strategy, which is planned to culminate in the release of its first fully autonomous car in 2021. UNI
