KARGIL MAY 24: Minister for Cooperatives Chering Dorjay today said that the present Government is fully committed to the development and strengthening of cooperative sector in Ladakh region and several key measures are underway to introduce profitable schemes to help farmers in getting profitable income.
The Minister stated this while chairing a meeting convened to discuss projects to be formulated under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for Kargil District at conference Hall Baroo here today.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Vikas Kundal besides other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
The Minister said that Government is working for the prosperity of the farmers by providing environment friendly, real time reliable and high quality agricultural services and is keen to implement several schemes and projects under NCDC in the district in the days to come.
Dorjay said that focused attention would be given with regard to the production of finished products of sea buck thorn, apricot and dairy by introducing high quality machinery so as to produce quality products in line with the present needs.
The Minister said that there is no dearth of funds under NCDC and directed the concerned officers to formulate proposals for establishment of polycarbonate sheet green houses, cold storages, milk processing units, Pashmina goat rearing units, Fishery units and other business ventures for larger benefit of the cooperative societies.
While referring to the steps being taken by the Cooperative Department for welfare of the people, the Minister said that issue with regard to the establishment of a tetra pack plant in Leh has already been taken up with the Central Government which is under active consideration. Dorjay said that coming up of the plant in the region will on the one hand produce sea buck thorn and apricot products of high quality and will also usher in an era of profitable business to the peasants of the twin districts of Leh and Kargil.
The Minister said work on the 1000 MT cold storage at Leh is nearing completion and will start functioning this year. He directed the Deputy Commissioner Kargil to start work on the establishment of cold storage at Kargil out of the Rs 4.50 crores released for the district under PMDP.
The Minster while stressing on the need to enlighten beneficiaries about the schemes under NCDC, National Horticulture Board (NHB) and other related schemes directed the Deputy Commissioner to hold awareness programmes in different parts of the district so that the farmers are encouraged to avail benefits of such schemes thereby giving boost to their income.

Kozhikode, May 21: The death toll due to fever caused by a Nipah Virus (rare virus) mounted to four with one more person succumbing last night, spreading panic in the district of Kerala.
The victim Lini (31), a nurse of Perambra Taluk Hospital, died last night due to fever.
A native of Chempanoda in the district, Lini had tended to three members of a family, who died of fever since May 5.
They were Mariam (50) of Changaroth in the district, who died of May 18, her nephew V K Salih who succumbed a day earlier and his brother on May 5.
Ten more people are undergoing treatment for the disease at various hospitals in the region.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Secretary Rajiv Sadanandan said the deaths of the trio were caused by Nipah Virus (NiP), spread by fruit bats causing severe disease among animals and humans.
This was confirmed by National Institute of Virology, Pune, reports said.
Urging the people not to panic, state Health Minister K K Shylaja said the administration was aware of the situation and launched adequate measures to analyse the cause.
"National Virology Laboratory, Manipal has found the cause as a rare fever and the blood samples have been sent to Pune for further tests", she said.
Stating the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has been informed of the development, "Centre was requested to depute an expert team to study the issue", she added.
Senior Congress leader M K Raghavan, representing Kozhikode in Lok Sabha urged both the Centre and the state government to take joint steps to contain the rare fever.
A letter seeking Central aid has been sent to Health Minister J P Nadda, said a release.
In another letter to state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Mr Raghavan sought free treatment to affected people. UNI

Consultants appointed for Leh, Kargil under NCDC  
SRINAGAR, JUNE 01: Stressing the need for giving momentum to Cooperative movement in the State, Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay, today underlined the need of providing boost to the Cooperative movement in the State to address the unemployment issues.
 He also asked the concerned for initiating the process to conduct the elections for different Cooperative societies from primary to secondary levels as the earliest.
Chairing a high level meeting of officers of Department convened here today to review the functioning of Cooperative Department, which was attended by Minister of State for Forest, Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries, Mir Zahoor Ahmad, Secretary Cooperative, Bashir Ahmad Bhat and other Senior Officers of Cooperative Department, the Minister asked the concerned for issuing notification on holding of elections of various Societies established in the State.
 Asking the concerned for taking District Development Commissioners on board before issuing notification in this regard, the Minister said they play vital role in conducting the elections for Cooperative Societies.
Reiterating the commitment of Government to give momentum to Cooperative movement, the Minister said that the State has ample potential for establishing cooperative societies and to generate employment opportunity.  He also asked the concerned for organizing workshops for the employees and awareness camps to sensitize the youth about the schemes, besides new developments and technological innovations in cooperative sector for the benefit of people related with the societies.  
 Taking stock of Cooperative assets available at different places, the Minister directed the concerned to ensure that there should be no encroachments on land available at different places in State. He also asked them to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) for construction of Cooperative Office at Tulsibagh and submit the same to the concerned quarter for arrangement of funds.
Addressing the meeting, Mir Zahoor called for giving wide publicity through print and electronic media to goods and other items being sold in all Cooperative and Super Bazaars of the State.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on working of Super Bazaars. It was informed that good revenue is being generated by the Super Bazaar Jammu and Super Bazaar Srinagar. It was also given out that the Cooperative Bazaar at Tulsibagh is functioning smoothly and the Department has a proposal for establishing Cooperative Bazaar at Civil Secretariat also. Out of 945 registered societies, as many as 598 societies are functional in Kashmir Division, the meeting was informed.
The meeting was informed that 97percent audit was completed.
During the meeting, the issue with regard to conduct of Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) was also discussed in detail and the Minister directed the Secretary Cooperative to convene DPCs meetings and clear promotions of the employees of different cadres.

The Minister also appointed the consultants for the Leh and Kargil districts to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPRs) under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) scheme of Cooperative Department for launching Integrated Cooperative Development Department (ICDP) project in these two districts.
