Train services suspended again in Kashmir for security reason

Srinagar, Sept 27: Train services were again suspended today in the Kashmir valley for security reasons though there was no call for any strike or protests, causing inconvenience to thousands of daily passengers. Train services had resumed yesterday after remaining suspended on September 25, when there was strike called by traders and transporters, supported by separatists in protest against summoning more people by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with terror funding. 'We have again suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley today,' a senior railway official told UNI. He said a fresh advisory was received late last night from the police to suspend the train services in the valley for security reasons.Therefore, he said, train run between Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north would remain suspended today. Similarly, train service will also not chug on Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region route. 'We have to act as per directions from the police,' he said, adding that decision to suspend or resume train service depend upon the advisory from the police and administration who are taking decision keeping in view the security of the passengers. The authorities had apprehension that there would be trouble today following the killing of top militant Qayoum Najar in Boniya area on Uri sector in north Kashmir yesterday. However, there was no strike call from any organisation against the killing of Najar. Since the message to suspend was received late last night, hundreds of passengers, who had arrived at different railway stations, were very disappointed after learning that trains have been suspended. Train service has become very popular in the Kashmir valley, where people prefer it over other mode of transport as train service is very cheap, safe and fast. In the past, railway property, including stations and trains, suffered massive damages in violence in the valley. However, during 2016 summer unrest, train service remained suspended for six months.
