Nov 10: Tension continues to haunt civil life in Bishalgarh under
Sepahijala district of West Tripura since last night following clash between
the supporters of CPI-M and BJP in Murabari area of the town, which left as
many 21 persons of both the parties injured including women.
Both the parties have lodged complaints against each other and police claimed that investigations have begun but no arrests were made so far. Extra forces have been deployed in the area while top leaders of both the parties were camping in the town to cease the tension.
The injured persons were undergoing treatment in Bishalgarh civil hospital. The normal life is severely affected in the town. Only a small number of vehicles were plying on the road, most of the shops and markets were shut down, the schools were remained closed and the town took a deserted look. BJP central observer Sunil Deodhar alleged that while returning from the ‘Pristha Pramukh’ conference at Bishramganj in the afternoon, BJP workers had a hot altercation with some CPI-M cadres at Muraibari, which turned violent. “The CPI-M workers stopped our supporters and warned them to disassociate from BJP. Both the group engaged into violence, which left as many as 11 youths of BJP injured. Later, another 10 persons of both BJP and CPI-M were injured in three separate clashes in the area,” he alleged. In the evening, CPI-M blocked Agartala-Sabroom national highway in front of Bishalgarh sub-divisional hospital alleging violence by BJP to disturb peaceful environment. As a result, the movement of BJP leaders to the hospital and treatment of the injured was affected. Meanwhile, another BJP state leader was allegedly attacked when he was coming towards Udaipur from Agartala. The saffron party workers gheraoed Bishalgarh police station accusing the police of patronising ruling party in violence. Another group ransacked the office of Tripura Motor Workers Union. The incident triggered counter attack on BJP workers in different locations including within the premises of the hospital. Meanwhile, CPI-M local leaders alleged that BJP workers had abused CPI-M in public, which began the violence. They said that the BJP workers beat up seven CPI-M supporters near the police station and added, “There was sufficient provocation on the part of BJP leaders while addressing the conference.” UNI
