Nov 18: BJP state president Biplab Kumar Deb claimed today that Union Home
Minister Rajnath Singh has assured him of taking appropriate step to restore
law and order situation in Tripura and to hold election in a peaceful
situation.
BJP Chief Deb and party’s central observer Sunil Deodhar held meeting with Rajnath Singh last evening at New Delhi and briefed about the deteriorating situation, continuous violence, murder and mayhem on opposition supporters and inactive role of police.The BJP leaders apprised him about 10 murders committed in the state in less than two months and police could not make any headway in any of the case. In case of the murder of journalist Shantanu Bhowmik most unusually Manik Sarkar government opposing CBI probe and mobilized police who has been destroying the evidences to save the criminals, they alleged. “Home Minister Singh assured us that the centre will not sit silent if anarchy prevailed and state governments failed to maintain law and order in the state and also informed that union home ministry has been watching the daily situation”, Deb stated.Deb submitted a detail memorandum and urged him to intervene in the poll-bound state’s law and order situation and mentioned, “CPIM is in power of Tripura for 25 years and has created an atmosphere of all fear for the ruling party. Crime on women is used as a tool for political vendetta here.”As many as 450 BJP workers were attacked, three murdered and hundreds of BJP offices were burnt or demolished in two months. He said reiterated that the issue of fake voters in electoral rolls and said that his party would continue pressing for error-free voters’ list and a proper election process.He referred to a recent incident where 40 infiltrators entered the Indian soil through Tripura from Bangladesh.
