Srinagar, Nov 4: Security forces on Saturday resumed search operation in the dense woods near Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, where alert troops gunned down an infiltrator in Machil sector on Friday.
“The search operation by security forces was suspended last night due to darkness only to be resumed with the first light this morning in the woods,” official sources told UNI.
Security forces have sealed the entire forest area to foil any attempt by the militants to escape, they said. However, they said it was not immediately clear how many militants are there.
No fresh contact was established with the militants after the first encounter immediately after a group of infiltrators sneaked into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Machil sector on Friday. An unidentified militant was killed in the exchange of fire with the alert troops. The militant’s body and weapon were recovered near the encounter site on Friday.
A large number of trained militants are waiting in launch pads near the LoC to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall. However, troops, already on high alert, have intensified night and foot patrolling to thwart any infiltration attempt. UNI
