Srinagar, Dec 23: Terming amnesty given to first-time stone-pelters in Kashmir valley as a
large-hearted approach taken by the government, a top CRPF office said it will
encourage more youth to shun violence and join the mainstream.
“It is a good step. It will encourage more youth to shun the
path of violence. I really wish and hope that people who have been given
amnesty, channelise their energy in a positive way,” Inspector General (IG) of
CRPF Ravideep Singh Shahi told reporters on the sidelines of the closing
ceremony of Inter-district CRPF Football tournament 2017 held at TRC ground in
Srinagar on Saturday.
Praising the role played by all security agencies operating in the valley to wean of youth from militancy, Mr Sahai said several people, including an ace footballer, shunned the path of violence and once again joined the mainstream. “Off late, we have had success in this direction,” he added.
Answering the question about the death of a woman in alleged security force firing in Shopian, the IG CRPF said people need to understand that they need to follow the rules to avoid suck killings.
“Rule of the law is very important. If restrictions are imposed in any area, it becomes imperative for the citizens to follow the instructions,” he said.
Now, he said if the rule of law is not being followed and if somebody comes out and as you know that encounter is going on, the bullets are flying all over, there is a chance that it may hit somebody.
However, Mr Sahai said that security force always show maximum restraint while dealing with public. UNI
