Kannur, Dec 26: Two CPI(M) cadres, including a Homeopathic doctor, suffered serious stab injuries in an attack, allegedly by BJP/RSS workers at Ayalur near Mattanur on Monday night.
CPI(M) has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal at two municipalities Mattanur and Iritty and four Panchayaths-- Thilankery, Maloor, Koodali and Keezallur areas on Tuesday to protest against the attack 
However, it allowed plying of vehicles and exempted the essential services from the 'hartal'. A protest march will also be carried out at Mattanur town to protest against the attack.
According to police, the CPI(M) workers were identified as Sudheer (48), who is also a professional homeo doctor and son of former Mattanur Municipal Chairman K T Chandran ,while another worker Sreejith (32), son of Damodharan and brother of CPI(M) Ayalur ward member Sreeja. 
The attack occurred around 2230 hrs on Monday, when both of them were sitting at a bus shelter near the party office at Ayalur. 
Six BJP workers came in a car and attacked them with sharp-edged weapons, injuring them seriously. Locals residents rushed them to a near by hospital and later, shifted to a private hospital at Kozhikode.
Large number of police personnel were camping at Mattanur and nearby areas following the series of political clashes and now the situation is under control, police said. UNI
