Chennai, Dec 25: A day after it was routed in the R K Nagar Assembly by-election, the Principal Opposition DMK has convened its High Level Strategy Committee Meeting on December 29.
DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan in a statement on Monday said the meeting, to be chaired by Working President M K Stalin, would be held at 1700 hrs at Party Headquarters 'Anna Arivalayam'.
All the high level committee members were directed to attend the meeting without fail.
Though no agenda has been specified for the meeting, it was convened in the backdrop of DMK, despite enjoying the support of various parties, forfeited its deposit as its candidate N Maruthu Ganesh finished third, polling a mere 24,651 votes.
The meeting was expected to discuss the reasons for the debacle in the context of Mr Stalin constantly reiterating that the DMK would win the bypoll and that the AIADMK and others would lose their deposits.
But the results went on the contrary, with AIADMK rebel and jailed leader V K Sasikala's nephew T T V Dhinakaran, winning hands down by a margin of 40,707 votes, defeating former Minister E Madhusudhanan of unified AIADMK headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, which had the advantage of the party's 'Two Leaves' symbol. UNI
