BANDIPORA, JANUARY 19:
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Sajad Hussain today convened
a meeting of senior officers of Police, Revenue and Municipal Committees to
discuss the measures to check use of polythene in the District.
The DDC sought suggestions from the
officers and after threadbare discussion action plan was framed to make
Bandipora polythene free.
The
meeting decided that a vigorous public awareness campaign against polythene
menace would be initiated across the length and breadth of District. While as
Tehsildars and executive officers Municipal Committees were directed to convene
meetings at their respective jurisdictions with traders and senior citizens and
educate them about ill effects of polythene.
It was also given out that wholesale
dealers of polythene will be asked to surrender the polythene stock before
police as a goodwill gesture towards society or face the stern action as per the
law.
The Assistant Commissioner Revenue has
been nominated as a Nodal Officer to check the progress of polythene
restriction.
The meeting also decided that the
government employees working in Mini Secretariat shall avoid carrying of
polythene bags especially in the premises of Mini Secretariat.
The DDC on the occasion stressed on the
officers to ensure the sustainable and well-organised mechanism and devise
procedures proactively to ensure complete restriction on the use of polythene
in the District.
