Chennai, Jan 8: The Principal Opposition DMK and its allies boycotted the maiden address of Tamil Nadu Assembly, which began here on Monday.
Soon after Governor Banwarilal Purohit rose to read his first address to the august house after assuming office, Leader of the Opposition and DMK Working
President M K Stalin sought to raise some issues.
When they tried to disrupt his address, the Governor said they could raise whatever issues they wanted during the debate and advised them to resume their seats.
As the Governor went ahead with the address, Mr Stalin led his party members out of the House.
He was followed by the members of its allies, the Congress and the IUML.
Three MLAs, supporting sidelined leader and RK Nagar MLA TTV Dhinakaran, who won on AIADMK symbol--Karunaas, Tamimum Ansari and Thaniarasu--also boycotted the Governor's address.
Later, talking to reporters outside the assembly premises, Mr Stalin said the Governor, instead of directing Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami to seek a trust vote (after
his government fell short of majority when 18 MLAs withdrew their support and subsequently disqualified by the Speaker), reading out the address prepared by the ruling AIADMK was against democracy.
He said the 'minority' government, which has only the support of 111 MLAs as per the Election Commission, has no right to continue in office and it was against the tenets
of the Constitution. UNI
