Jan 16: Responding to chief minister Mamata Banerjee's appeal for liberal
investments, India's leading industrialists like Mukesh Ambani, Sajjan Jindal,
Sanjiv Goenka among others today categorically specified their investment funds
to several thousands crores of rupees in next two to five years in West Bengal.
As the 4th Bengal Global Business Summit kick-started at New
Town, the captains of industries while showering accolades on the leadership
and dynamism of Ms Banerjee, they said they were seeing a new Bengal and the
state has become the new investment destination.After inaugurating the BGBS at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Ms Banerjee assured the industrialists of all possible assistance for growth of business, saying " Bengal means business",
" Bengal has a strategic location. It is the gateway for ASEAN countries, NE India. Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan are our bordering countries. There are a lot of opportunities for investment, " Ms Banerjee said.
" As Ambani ji said, in ease of doing business, Bengal is No. 1 state. Despite the legacy of 34 years,
we are trying our best. Our plan expenditure has increased by 3 times; capital expenditure has
increased by 7 times in six years. Our GDP has more than doubled in six years. We are among the top states in terms of GDP, " Ms Banerjee said while listing of achievments made in last seven years.
Mukesh Ambani while praising Ms Banerjee for her dynamism and converting the state into a new West Bengal said the state was now No 1 in ease doing business and committed Rs 5,000 crore investment in next 2/3 years in petroleum and digital sectors. UNI
