Agartala, Feb 21: The CPI-M candidate of
Takarjala tribal reserved constituency of West Tripura Ramendra Debbarma was
accused of molesting a 52 –yrs old tribal woman on Tuesday following which the
villagers blockade the main road till late night demanding his arrest.
Superintendent of Police Sudipta Das said police is
investigating the case but nobody is arrested yet.
According to sources, Ramendra Debbarma and one of his followers Prembandhu Debbarma stormed the house of the victim when she was alone in her house in Amtali area. Allegedly, they charged the victim for casting her vote in favour IPFT in the recently concluded assembly poll and molested her. They threatened to kill her family if left front come to power, the victim told the police.
The incident sparked reaction like wild fire and hundreds of IPFT supporters raised a blockade at Takarjala – Jampuijala road demanding immediate arrest of the accused, but there was no action rom police. The security has been stepped up to prevent violence and central paramilitary forces along with TSR jawans have been deployed in politically volatile areas.
IPFT President N C Debbarma alleged that CPI-M goons led by Ramendra have attacked Biswalaxmi Debbarma, one of their supporters and ransacked her house at Amtali under Takarjala looking for her husband Khitish Debbarma.
However, BJP president Biplab Kumar Deb alleged that top CPI-M leaders were instigating their cadres to resort to violence anticipating that they were soon to bite dust. The party has mobilized it’s cadres to create terror in order to manipulate the counting of election on March 3 next.
“It is a clear indication that CPI-M has begun the violence for next five years to create the plot for 2019 general elections. But I am requesting the leaders to restrain from such activities immediately; otherwise, BJP will be forced to adopt counter strategy to prevent the violence. Nobody will be spared once central government intervenes into the law and order maintenance issues,” Mr Deb warned.
He alleged in the last three days CPI-M cadres attacked BJP voters and ground level workers across the state almost in the same time and similar style, which reflects that the top leadership of CPI-M is involved in the violent incidents to achieve political mileage. UNI
