Bengaluru, Mar 2: In its fresh attempt to woo the voters in the election to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly due in May, the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched ‘Protect Bengaluru’ Yatra.
The 14-day Yatra was inaugurated by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, who is party incharge of Karnataka election, in the presence of BJP General Secretary Muralidhar Rao, who is also incharge of party affairs in Karnataka, Union Ministers Anantkumar, D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP state leaders including former Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok, former Minister S Suresh Kumar and BJP legislators.
Mr Javadekar participated in the Padayatra that began in front of Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple after performing Pooja and garlanding the Statue of Kempegowda, the builder of Bengaluru city.
The Yatra will be undertaken over the next 14 days in all the 28 Assembly constituencies in the city and a chargesheet released by Mr Javadekar on Thursdaywill be distributed to each and every house. The chargesheet contains failuers of ruling Congress during its regime.
BJP has been very strong in Bengaluru metroplis and bagging maximum among the 28 segments will be key for the party to wrest power from Congress in the ensuing election.
To counter the yatra, the Congress workers staged black flag demonstration enroute of the Yatra. However, BJP workers continued their Yatra ignoring the protest.
Police made eleborate bandobust to ensure that law and order was maintained. UNI
