New Delhi, Feb 26 :  Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar Tuesday hailed the air strikes carried out by the Indian Air Force inside Pakistan, saying the entire nation stands firmly behind the armed forces.

"It was a necessary step required for the security of the country ... it was an act of maha parakram (mightily act)," he said.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already given a free hand to the forces to take necessary action against the backdrop of the Pulwama terror strike that left 40 CRPF personnel dead.                               [Agencies]

New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) Sports and art are one of the biggest contributions of human beings to the society and nurturing students in these areas right from the beginning should be the focus of schools, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said Wednesday.

Javadekar was addressing the gathering at the inaugural session of "Kala Utsav" at Bal Bhavan here.

"Sports and art are one of the biggest contributions of human beings to the society. They are one of the biggest treasure too and nurturing our students in the areas right from the beginning should be the focus area of schools," he said.

"Kala Utsav" is an initiative of the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Javadekar also inaugurated the sports centre at Bal Bhavan which has been revamped with modern facilities. 

About 370 children from all states and Union Territories, except Karnataka, are participating in the four-day national-level competition in areas including vocal music, instrumental music, dance and painting.

"One girl and one boy from each state and Union Territory will compete in each of the competitions. Students representing Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Samiti will also be competing," a senior HRD Ministry official said.

Kala Utsav National Competition was launched in 2015 with a view to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing artistic talents of school students.

New Delhi, Sep 17: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and his cabinet colleague Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi unveiled a 568-kg ladoo on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 68th birthday on Monday.

Participating at a function organised by Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, which is celebrating the PM's birthday as 'Swachhta Diwas', Javadekar said, "Sanitation coverage has significantly increased in the country in last four years."

Under the 'Swachhta Campaign' more than nine crore toilets have been constructed and 450 lakh villages have been declared open defecation free (ODF), Javadekar said.

Stating that sanitation coverage was only 30 per cent in the country in the first 60 to 62 years, the HRD minister said under the leadership of Modi the coverage now stood at 90 per cent.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said sanitation has become a mass movement.

"PM Sh @narendramodi has been working with the commitment to Clean India, Healthy India . Swachh Bharat Abhiyan #SwachhtaHiSeva has today become an effective mission with the participation & passion of common people of the country. (sic)" Naqvi later tweeted. (PTI)

Jaipur, Jun 26 : Emergency was a blot on democracy in the country and the HRD ministry would work to include the truth about this dark chapter in school and college textbooks, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said today. 

"People should know the complete truth about the Emergency phase that the country witnessed. We will make required changes in textbooks to spread awareness among the new generation," he said.


The Union minister said that one should not forget the 'black chapter' that Emergency, imposed by Congress in 1975, was. 

There was no public purpose, but Congress made the move to remain in power, the HRD minister said.


Emergency was a blot on democracy and it was an attempt to restrict people's freedom, he said at a press conference here.

Responding to a question, Javadekar said it would be wrong to say there was undeclared emergency in the country for the last four years. He said the allegations levelled by rebel BJP leader Ghanshyam Tiwari in this regard were false.

Tiwari had yesterday tendered his resignation from the BJP saying the country and the state of Rajasthan were undergoing undeclared emergency for the last four years. 

Javadekar said there was complete freedom under the present government system.

Speaking about price rise, he said rising inflation was a norm under Congress governments and it comes down when BJP is the ruling party.

Javadekar said the name of the new Rajasthan BJP chief will be announced soon.  PTI

New Delhi, Mar 30: Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar on Friday inaugurated Smart India Hackathon 2018 here and said young minds are innovators and innovation brings sustainable prosperity to the country.
The second edition of SIH (software) is being held at 28 centres across the country.
A total of one lakh students have participated in this two-day event , the result of which will be declared after 36 hours.
Mr Javadekar wished all the best to all the participants through video conferencing and hoped that the 340 software problems given to them would help the nation in future.
The HRD minister also visited the 30 teams here who have come from different parts of the country to participate in the SIH 2018. UNI

New Delhi, Mar 27: Results of the software edition of Smart India Hackathon 2018, the world’s largest nation-building Digital Initiative of the Human Resource Development Ministry, will be out in two days.
HRD minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday announced on his twitter, “ It's going to be really big! We are looking forward to students coming up with digital solutions to help the nation grow . #SIH2018 #SmartIndiaHackathon2018 #DigitalIndia #SoftwareFinale.”
The final round of Software Hackathon competition would be conducted for continuous 36 hours at 28 nodal centres across the country on March 30 and 31.
The purpose was conceptualised to harness the creativity and energy of bright young students for the development of our nation.
A total of one lakh students have participated and 12047 ideas have been received for the Software Edition.
SIH-2018 comprises two competitions – Software Hackathon and Hardware Hackathon.

NEW DELHI, MARCH 17: Unions Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar released 12 volumes of International Encyclopaedia of Disaster Management in his office chambers in New Delhi on Thursday.
The Encyclopaedia of Disaster Management has been authored by Chairman Afro-Eurasian Chamber of Commerce, Education, Development and Employment (ACCEDE), Dr Ravi Jyee and Dr PR Trivedi.
The 12 volumes consisting of 5401 pages cover diverse aspects of disasters, its impacts on development of a nation and the ways and means for the advance preparedness for such eventualities of the occurrence of different types of disasters world over.
Dr Ravi Jyee said they have researched for three years about various natural and man-made disasters occurred across the globe in recent past and the subsequent actions taken to mitigate the problems of the people besides taking preventive measures to avoid such disasters in future.
He said the encyclopaedia will act as a ready reckoner for the Government and Non-Governmental Organisation while dealing with various disasters in future. The Union Minister appreciated the work done by the organisation in compiling the much-needed book for the convenience of the people dealing with disasters.

Bengaluru, Mar 2: In its fresh attempt to woo the voters in the election to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly due in May, the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched ‘Protect Bengaluru’ Yatra.
The 14-day Yatra was inaugurated by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, who is party incharge of Karnataka election, in the presence of BJP General Secretary Muralidhar Rao, who is also incharge of party affairs in Karnataka, Union Ministers Anantkumar, D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP state leaders including former Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok, former Minister S Suresh Kumar and BJP legislators.
Mr Javadekar participated in the Padayatra that began in front of Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple after performing Pooja and garlanding the Statue of Kempegowda, the builder of Bengaluru city.
The Yatra will be undertaken over the next 14 days in all the 28 Assembly constituencies in the city and a chargesheet released by Mr Javadekar on Thursdaywill be distributed to each and every house. The chargesheet contains failuers of ruling Congress during its regime.
BJP has been very strong in Bengaluru metroplis and bagging maximum among the 28 segments will be key for the party to wrest power from Congress in the ensuing election.
To counter the yatra, the Congress workers staged black flag demonstration enroute of the Yatra. However, BJP workers continued their Yatra ignoring the protest.

Bengaluru, Nov 8: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar today alleged that Congress is supporting black money and hence it is celebrating 'Black Day' through out the country.
However, the BJP was observing 'Anti-Black Money Day' for the successful implementation of demonitisation on this day last year. "This clearly shows that the Congress is supporting Black money and institutions of corruption, while on the other side BJP which has began its war against corruption was taking many measures to curb the menace and bring to book those who indulged in such activities," he  added. Bengaluru, Nov 8: Continuing its fight against corruption the BJP led NDA government at the Centre will make major announcements benefiting common people in the 2018-19 budget, Union Minister for Human Resources Prakash Javadekar today indicated. Talking to newsmen here, he said "major announcements are likely to be made in the next budget to give further boost to Direct Benefit Scheme". Digital transaction which is gaining more and more popularity will be given further boost to end corruption. "Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi used to say that when I sent Rs 100 from Delhi to rural beneficiary, he/she used to receive only Rs 15 that was the Congress regime. Now Modiji send Rs 100 and poor receives in his bank account the full amount of Rs 100," he added. Mr Javadekar said that after Digital transaction was introduced about Rs 64,000 crore leakage was plugged. Claiming that demonetisation was a success, Mr Javadekar said that the Congress which could not digest the popularity the Modi government gaining every day was observing the BJP government's Anti-Black money Day as 'Black day'. "This shows that Congress is indirectly supporting black money," he added. He said that the Modi government has not only introduced demonitisation to fight against corruption but also brought in four legislations to curb black money-- Benami transaction (Prohibition) Amendement bill, the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assts) and Impositionn of Tax Act, 2005 for Foreign Black Money and Whistle Blowers Protection. Mr Javadekar claimed that after series of strict measures taken by the Modi government to fight against corruption, the planks of Poor, who were supporting Congress, are now shifting to BJP. He said that the BJP Government has plugged the loopholes of Singapore, Cyprus and Mauritius route whereby black money was converted into white money through back agreement. "Now, this revised agreement has blocked this route of diversion. The re-negotiation of Tax Treaties and automatic information exchange agreements with many countries have also helped in sharing of Real Time Information for blocking black money movement," the Minister added.  UNI

New Delhi, Nov 6: Stressing that education is a national agenda, Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Monday said education holds no meaning without physical activities in a student’s life. 'Physical education and life skill education is equally important for a student. A student should not limit himself to a book. Human values make the purpose of education meaningful. 'Education is not a state subject; we all are stakeholders (students/teachers/parents/principals) and have equal responsibility,' the HRD Minister stated at a two-day national workshop on school education here. Mr Javadekar stressing on digital education said, 'Schools, educational institutions whether public/private, NGOs, all are doing fine and there is a need to bring them under one roof so that a good content comes out of it. Apps such as BYJU where courses are available online, are doing a good job.'
'Earlier, there was operation Blackboard and soon Operation Digital Board will be there across the country,' said the HRD minister adding that it will not lessen the role of teachers. No teacher is less important; teacher is needed for explanation, for making the things understandable, he said. UNI

New Delhi, Nov 3: Stressing on the need for funding in education for sustainable future, Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has said India recognises that accountability in financing of education is critical to achieve SDG4 and associated targets. 
Mr Javadekar was speaking at ‘Accountability in Financing of Education’ during the Meeting on ‘SDG4-Education 2030: Strengthening Accountability in the Implementation of SDG4’ in the 39th General Conference of UNESCO in Paris.
The HRD Minister states that “OECD (The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries must fulfil their commitment to enhance funding that is needed to implement Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) - Education 2030 and associated targets."
India recognises that accountability in financing of education is critical to achieve SDG4 and associated targets. It involves accountability in financing of education on the part of both the development partners and individual countries. 
Accountability on the part of development partners relates to the commitment to enhance funding that is needed to implement SDG4-Education 2030 agenda.
The latest Global Education Monitoring Report released recently points out that“at the global level, international commitments to finance the education sector, remains weak”. 
The Report indicates that “only 6 of 28 OECD-DAC countries met their commitment to allocate 0.7% of national income to aid.” Therefore, OECD developed countries must fulfil their commitment. Ultimately, investing in education is investing in peace and sustainable future.
"Accountability on the part of individual countries relate to the commitment to set nationally appropriate spending targets for education, mobilising financial resources and achieving in a progressive manner the international benchmarks of allocating at least 4 per cent to 6 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) to education; and/or allocating at least 15 per cent to 20 per cent of public expenditure to education," the HRD Minister said. 
Accountability on the part of individual countries also relates to efforts aimed at ensuring that the available funds are used efficiently and effectively.
"The Government of India recognises that achieving the education development goals and targets set in the context of SDG4-Education 2030 agenda requires increased and well-targeted financing and effective and efficient utilisation of allocated funds. Government of India is investing nearly 4.5 per cent of GDP on education, despite competing demands on resources. The Central and State/ UT governments have been making efforts to provide adequate and equitable financing to educational priorities. There has been a broad consensus that investment on education be gradually increased to reach a level of six per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP)," said the Minister. 
"Efforts are being made to step up the outlay on education by facilitating substantial increase in both public and private sector investment in education,"the release stated. 
"Furthermore, improved coordination, monitoring and evaluation processes have been attempted to ensure that the available funds are used efficiently and effectively, and with measurable education outcomes and impacts for children and youth, especially in terms of attainment of expected learning outcomes," the statement added. UNI

New Delhi, Oct 24: Rajani Javadekar, mother of Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, passed away on Tuesday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest, family members said. She passed away at around 0900 hrs in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The cremation will take place later in the day at Nigambodh Ghat. Ninety-two-year-old Javadekar is survived by two sons and a daughter. She served as a primary school teacher in Zilla Parishad schools in Maharashtra’s Raigad and Pune districts. UNI

New Delhi, Aug 2 : Seeking to politically corner the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, the BJP today demanded "convincing explanation or resignation’’ of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s company Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd allegedly receiving payment of Rs 1.15 crore by a realtor facing legal action in various cases. "It is an open and shut case of corruption. Ms Mamata Banerjee should give a convincing explanation or she should resign on moral ground,’’ HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said here while addressing a press conference with party Spokesperson Sambit Patra after a TV channel ‘expose’ of the corruption involving her nephew. "Saradha scam, Narada scam, recruitment scam. It is scam after scam. The West Bengal Chief Minister owes an explanation to the people of the state,’’ Mr Javadekar said. New Delhi, Jul 29 : Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar today expressed concern over people's "addiction for air-conditioned environment and the habit of using ACs at very low temperatures." Mr Javadekar, who was formerly the Environment Minister, said, 'people nowadays are making AC as a habit and keep it at the maximum power by keeping the temperature setting at minimum, be it at homes or places of work.' The former Environment Minister stressed on the fact that given an option, people would go on adjusting the temperature even lower than 18 degrees while the actual temperature would be 36 degrees C outside. According to the Minister, such a practice not only keeps one far from real weather condition, but also has a negative effect on the consumption of electricity or rather contribute to its wastage. Remembering his days as the Environment Minister, Mr Javadekar said, 'in the Ministry of Environment office we would keep the temperature fixed at 26 degees C, which was optimum and comfortable.' The HRD Minister further said that all natural resources especially water should be used very sensibly along with an emphasis on rain water harvesting. While speaking at the National Conference on Higher Education Perspectives in India here, the Minister also said that the Government will soon launch a 'Smart University Campus Competition and a Smart College Campus Competition', where all institutes will have to take part, and ranking will be given accordingly. However, the Minister said 'for university teachers research work was mandatory earlier and will remain with no change.' Mr Javadekar furthter said that by amending the APIs (Academic Performance Indicators) for the college teachers, for the promotion purposes, student and community activities conducted by the teacher will be taken into consideration. The Minister pointed out the fact that for the sake of promotion it has become a common practice that fake researches were being presented and such things were unacceptable. While speaking at the beginning of a two-day national conference on higher education organised by Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (University of Delhi) and Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh here, the Minister also said that the Government was trying to fulfill soon the 9,000 ad hoc posts in the Delhi University and the teachers should be regularised on the basis of merit. more UNI
