Delhi, Mar 6: Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Tuesday with the
House unable to transact any business for the second consecutive day of the
resumed Budget session.
Members from various parties, including National Democratic
Alliance constituents Shiv Sena and Telugu Desam Party, trooped into the well,
raising slogans in support of their respective demands. As soon as the House reassembled after the first adjournment for 55 minutes, members belonging to Congress, Trinamool Congress, TDP, Shiv Sena and All India Anna Dravidra Munnetra Kazagham rushed to the well, carrying placards and raising anti-government slogans.
Shiv Sena members, led by Arvind Sawant, carried placards demanding that Marathi be declared 'classical' language.
TDP has been demanding 'special category status' for Andhra Pradesh while Congress and All India Trinamool Congress raised slogans over the banking scams.
AIADMK members demanded constitution of the Cauvery Management Board at the earliest.
Amid the din, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the government was ready for debate on all issues and insisted "the discussion on banking scams has been already listed under Rule 193." However, the House should function to take up the debate, Mr Kumar added.
He wondered why Indian Natonal Congress members were raising slogans when their party colleague K C Venugopal's name was listed as one of the movers of the debate.
Mr Kumar said,"I don't want the Congress friends to be agitated. They wanted a discussion on banking irregularities. We are ready for that."
Congress party floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge countered the minister and said the debate should be taken up under rules as desired by the opposition. UNI
