New Delhi, Mar 14: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Wednesday after the opposition members,
including Congress, TDP, AIADMK, DMK, YSR Congress and AAP, entered into the
Well and protested in support of their respective demands.
As soon as the papers were laid in the Upper House, the
agitating members created ruckus over PNB scam, demands for special status to
Andhra Pradesh, setting up of Cauvery Management Board (CMB)and sealing drive
in Delhi.
The Congress leaders were raising the PNB fraud case vociferously.
The TDP and YSR Congress lawmakers were protesting seeking special category status to Andhra Pradesh, while Tamil Nadu-based AIADMK and DMK were demanding setting up of CMB in line with the Supreme Court verdict.
AAP raked up the issue of sealing drive in the national capital which forced the Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu to adjourn the House till 1400 hours.
However, Mr Naidu told that nothing will be broadcast or written in electronic and print media, respectively with regards to sloganeering and shoutings.
Earlier, the House paid rich tributes to the departing soul of former member VPM Swamy, who had died on February 2, 2018 and Prof Stephen Hawking who died at an age of 76 - after battling with motor neurone disease. He is one of the most respected and best-known scientists of his age.
The Upper House also condemned the dastardly attack on CRPF personnel in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, which claimed the lives of nine personnel and causing injuries to 14 others.
The Chairman termed it as a "dastardly act... which deserves to be condemned." UNI
