Srinagar, Apr 4: Curfew-like restrictions imposed in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), were
lifted on Wednesday though large number of security force and state police
personnel remained deployed to maintain law and order.
However, all gates of historic Jamia Masjid,
stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq,
remained locked for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.
There are no restrictions in any part of the Srinagar today, police said.
The authorities had imposed Restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of police station Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Safa Kadal, Rainawari and Khanyar in the downtown and SeK on Monday to prevent any law and order problem following strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz and Mohammad Yaseen Malik against the Shopian violence that left four civilians and 13 militants dead on Sunday.
Three soldiers were also martyred and several others were injured in the encounters.
Security forces have lifted all road blocks, including barbed wire from entire Nallahmar road from Nawa Kadal to Khanyar. Besides bullet proof vehicles, parked in the middle of roads and barbed wire at different places, including Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rangar stop, Gojwara have also been removed. However, large number of security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in the entire down town an SeK to prevent any demonstration today, when the JRL has called for “ Shopian Challo” to express solidarity with the families of those killed in the violence. Security forces deployed in these areas where frisking and checking private vehicles at some places.
However, shops and business establishments remained closed and passenger traffic remained off the roads for the third day today. However, private vehicles were seen plying on some routes. The educational institutions remained closed following government order. Work in banks and government offices remained affected in these areas.
Meanwhile, all gates of historic Jamia Masjid remained locked for the third day today. Large number of security forces remained deployed in the area and a bullet proof vehicle had been parked on the main gate of the worship place to prevent anybody from entering there. UNI
