Jammu, Oct 04: The deportation of seven (7) Rohingyas
from Assam to their native country of Myanmar is indeed a step which will have
far reaching impact in the border state of Jammu & Kashmir, Jammu province
in particular, which houses the population of illegal immigrants from
neighbouring countries. The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party views this
development as positive and progressive.
This was stated by BJP State
Spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan, while terming the move as right decision in the
right direction, although belated due to the vote bank policy of the
earlier governments of Congress and NC, who played key role in getting the
settlement of illegal immigrants of foreign citizens from Burma, Bangladesh and
Myanmar in different pockets of Jammu. These people have acquired identity
cards, got registered as voters and even possess Aadhar Card.
The BJP had been spearheading
the movement for their identification and deportation from Jammu to countries
of their origin since long. The party had also sensitized the Union Home
Ministry and made several representations to the central leadership for their
early deportation. In this regard, a petition was also filled before High Court
by one of the member of BJP Legal Cell in 2015.
There had been instances when
these people were under scanner for involvement in anti-national activities.
There had been apprehension that the settlement of these illegal immigrants in
Jammu was a part of conspiracy to change the demography of Jammu and also serve
as mean of boarding / guiding elements working against interests of the nation.
Balbir said that the Union
Home Ministry has taken few important measures to set in motion the process of
the deportation of illegal immigrants and the latest step in this regards is
the direction to all states to carry out biometric identification of all such
people settled across the country.
He said that the BJP urges
upon the Governor’s administration to set in motion this process in Jammu
Kashmir on priority since Rohingyas are also a security threat in the
region adding that the party condemns the role of Congress, whose senior
leaders were involved in facilitating their settlement in Jammu and currently
some of these are contesting their deportation in Supreme Court.
