Agra, Oct 5: Amid bickering within the first family of SP, the re-elected national president of the party Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday called on the workers and leaders to brace themselves to take on the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Mr Yadav was re-elected president of the SP for next five years, after the Constitution of the party was amended in the absence of party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav. In his brief address after being re-elected, the president said, “I had told Netaji (Mulayam) that if you come, we will be honoured. I had called him yesterday and today too before reaching the venue. I told him, if you don’t bless us, we will not progress. Netaji blessed me over the phone today morning. Kiranmoy Nanda (the national vice president) too got blessings from Netaji today.” Earlier, it was said that 'netaji' would attend the Agra meet but later he skipped it and was closeted with his brother Shivpal at his residence in Lucknow, when Akhilesh was being re-elected the party president. "The path of politics is always difficult and hard. We will fight for people's cause and will be successful. The farmers of the entire country are in problem. "The current UP government has cheated farmers with its loan waiver scheme," he said. The tenth national convention of the SP is being held at the Central Telegraph ground in Agra Cantonment, where around 25,000 party leaders from 25 states are participating. The SP president attacked BJP governments in UP and at the Centre over demonetisation and GST. Demonetisation had halted traders’ business and GST finished them, he added. "Unemployment is a serious problem in the country and the BJP has totally failed to address the issue," he claimed. "BJP always makes false promises and ditch the countrymen by going against their assurances to solve the problem of the masses," he added. 'Since Agra is our lucky charm, this convention will lead the party to a grand success in future elections,' he further said. Mr Akhilesh Yadav will also present the concluding address in the convention later this afternoon. Party's secretary general Prof Ram Gopal Yadav tabled the political and economic resolutions which attacked the BJP government at the Centre as well as in UP.  UNI

Agra, Oct 5: Samajwadi Party announced re-election of Akhilesh Yadav as its national president for next five-year term at its tenth national convention in the Taj city on Thursday, in the absence of party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav. Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, party's national general secretary and so called 'Chanakya' of Akhilesh made the announcement just after the start of the national convention. However, even after reports that the SP patron could attend the convention, the announcement of the president was made in a hurry by the party before his arrival. As per Prof Yadav, on Wednesday, the national executive of the party had proposed the name of Akhilesh Yadav as the national president for next five years. His proposal was supported by the leaders in the convention. On January 1, 2017, Mr Akhilesh Yadav was elected the national president at the emergency national convention held at Lucknow replacing Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav. The meeting is being held at the Central Telegraph ground in Agra Cantonment, where around 25,000 party leaders from 25 states are participating. With this election, now the SP has given clear indications that the party will go to the 2019 Lok Sabha and next 2022 Assembly polls under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav. UNI

Agra, Oct 3: Two-day national convention of Samajwadi Party here in the Taj city from Wednesday will decide whether the bickering withing SP's first family would continue or the party would focus on its substantive agenda of taking on its prime adversary - the Bharatiya Janata Party. Tomorrow on the opening day, the national executive of the party will meet while party president Akhilesh Yadav will address a press conference. SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said here on Tuesday that around 15,000 delegates from 25 states were expected to participate in the 10th SP national convention at Targhar maidan in Sadar Bazar area. Mr Chaudhary said Akhilesh Yadav was set to be elected as SP national president for the next five years. Soon after Assembly election in March, Akhilesh had revised the term of state and national chief from three years to five years. The spokesman informed that the convention would start with the hoisting of the party flag at 0900 hrs on October 5. The same day, political and economic resolutions would be tabled and strategy and preparation for 2019 Lok Sabha polls would be discussed. He said tomorrow, SP national executive would meet to finalise the agenda and thereafter Akhilesh would address the press conference at 1700 hrs. He said Akhilesh would leave for Agra from Lucknow by road in the morning tomorrow and party workers will welcome the leader on the way. However, senior party leaders are still confused over the bickering within the party and it has to be seen whether Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has been invited personally by his son, attends the meeting or not. "Time is running out for SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. He has to decide who is his prime enemy, his father Mulayam Singh Yadav, whom he toppled from the post of national president, his uncle Shivpal Yadav whom he pushed to the margins or Prime Minister Narendra Modi,’’ quipped a senior SP leader, who is set to stay away from the Agra convention. The issue rattling the rank and file of the SP is not the feud within the first family but the lack of concern within the first family to resolve the dispute and end the deadlock. "The feud in SP's first family is a festering wound. Akhilesh Yadav seems to be little concerned and is confident that he can steer the party to the 2019 Lok Sabha poll without setting his house in order. The intra-party feud has already caused immense damage to the party in 2017 Assembly poll and continues to erode the credibility and image of the party,' said the SP leader. UNI
