Mathura, Mar 24 :  The chairman of UP Legislative Assembly's Committee of Government Assurances and former Uttar Pradesh higher education minister Shyam Sundar Sharma on Tuesday criticized the state government, alleging it has "failed in all areas , specially farmers' welfare.

He said, Through big advertisement in the media, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath may claim development but virtually nothing has been done.

The state government's policies have made things worse for the farmers whose incomes have already taken a plunge due to high prices of fertilizer, power and labour, the BSP leader alleged while talking to a group of reporters here.

The previous government sold the paddy for Rs 3,000 per quintal but under present regime the rates are Rs 1,800 per quintal, the opposition member claimed.

The farmer will not be able to grow four crops if there is shortage of water, power and cheap labour, Sharma said.

He alleged that earlier the farmers were given cash credit for purchasing fertilizers and seeds by cooperative banks which has now been stopped.

The present government has also failed to provide even two meals to the poor and jobs to educated youth and the corruption in state has increased, Sharma alleged.
State Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu

Mathura, Jan 26 :  Daring UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take action against him, state Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu on Sunday said he will continue to chant "azadi" slogans.

He said this while referring to Adityanath's warning to anti-CAA protesters that "azadi" slogans will be treated as sedition.

"I will raise the slogan of freedom from hunger and corruption. If the chief minister wants, he can lodge a complaint of sedition against me," Lallu told reporters here.

Lallu added that the state government was free to file a case against him but he would continue to seek freedom from problems faced by farmers and women.

Lallu also termed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) unconstitutional, saying it was against Articles 14, 16 and 21 of the Constitution.

On Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that the legislation would not be withdrawn, the state Congress chief said, "Shah is speaking like a dictator."

A time would come when people would give a befitting reply to such assertions, he added.

Terming the CAA a distraction from major issues, Lallu said the rural income was on the decline but the government did not make any efforts to bridge the gap.

The Govt is trying to silence students, women and the common man by registering cases against them, he alleged.

He said even activists of the Congress and other parties were sent to jail despite peaceful demonstrations against the CAA-NRC in Lucknow.

He claimed that the Congress would continue to raise issues of unemployed, farmers, women, poor and students.

The attires worn by the participants will be more colourful and the venue will be given an attractive look this year, Shailjakant Mishra, Vice Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Braj Tirth Vikas Parishad told.

To facilitate the ever-increasing domestic as well as international tourists, the two-day attraction which takes place in Barsana, has been extended to six days with the addition of Mathura as a host, he said.

Traditionally, the festival was celebrated for two days in Barsana near Mathura.

"The entire area of Lathamaar Holi, including the attires of its participants would be given an attractive look," Mishra added.

Celebrated a few days before Holi, Lathamar means playing with sticks. In the festival, men folk try to smear colour women who traditionally protect themselves with lathis or sticks.

A meeting to finalise the proposals was attended by senior officers of the state government on Tuesday evening.

The first phase of the celebrations will be held in Barsana over a period of two days on March 14 and 15 beginning with Laddu Holi.

Mathura, June 29: Monkey menace in Brijbhumi, especially in Vrindaban and Goverdhan, is turning out to be a major deterrent for the pilgrims visiting the holy land where Radha and Krishna played the novel sport Maharaas .

In order to prevent any untoward incident, we are sending a proposal for Monkey Safari at least at Tirth Sthals of Mathura , said Sarvagya Ram Mishra, the district magistrate of Mathura.

He said the strategy of catching the monkeys and releasing them at far off distance has not worked so far.

With the recent increase in incidents of monkey bite, the necessity of monkey safari has been felt more, he added.

The idea was mooted by politician turned actress Hema Malini , over four years ago when she contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mathura.

We would ensure monkey safari in Brijbhumi, she had said.

However, there has not been much progress so far in this regard.

When former President Pranab Mukherjee visited Bankey Behari temple at Vrindaban a couple of years ago, he was brought to the temple in a covered cart to avoid the monkey menace.

Similarly about three decades ago, a lady district magistrate became a victim of monkey menace and had to offer them eatables to get back her spectacles.

Food problem is the basic reason of nepharious activities of monkeys, said Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Avashesh Swami, the head of Geeta Ashram Vrindaban.

Though on weekends they get enough food when the influx of pilgrims in Brijbhumi is larger, but on rest of the days they hanker for eatables and apply different tricks to fill their belly.

The abandoning of specs or even bags in lieu of some eatables shows the monkeys pick up these items for a purpose, he said.

They also attack locals as well as pilgrims when their hunger is at peak.

In Goverdhan, few monkeys make pilgrims virtually captive by holding both their legs together.

The pilgrim is set free, only when the simian is offered food, said local businessman Raj kumar Tomar, a frequent performer of Goverdhan parikrama.

Narrating the mindset of monkeys of different areas, Philonthropic Rakesh Tewari, the PRO of famous Dwarkadhish temple said, while in Vrindaban they deprive pilgrims their specs , ladies their hand bag and children their eatables, in Goverdhan, Barsana, Nandgaon, Gokul and Baldeo, besides snatching the eatables, they even attack pilgrims, without being incited.

In Mathura, they not only take away food from the kitchen but sometimes open the refrigerator and take away eatables, he said, adding they turn aggressive if anybody becomes an obstacle to their activity.

According to Dr. Mukul Anand, Asstt Professor Physiology, Deen Dayal Veterinary University Mathura, the problem may be dealt by checking the population growth of monkeys by adopting complete vasectomy in a planned way.

Monkey safari is also good idea provided the male and female ones are separated in Safari, he added.

Mathura, Jun 18: Terming the situation in Kashmir "deplorable" and claiming that it was beyond the control of the BJP-led government, Youth Congress national president Keshav Chand Yadav has said the Centre should convene a meeting of leaders of different opposition parties to discuss the issue.
"The foreign policy of this government has miserably failed. Its internal policy is also in doldrums. It should call a meeting of leaders of opposition parties to discuss the Kashmir issue," Yadav told reporters here last evening.
He said the fact that Pakistan's flags were being unfurled in the Valley and jawans were getting killed or becoming victims of stone-pelting showed that as regards Kashmir, the policy of the current dispensation had completely failed, in spite of a BJP government at the Centre as well as in Jammu and Kashmir.
Yadav reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promise to bring 10 Pakistani heads for the head of one Indian soldier and alleged that the government had made even the killing of jawans a "jumla" (gimmickry).
"Without any plan to check the infiltration of terrorists and without deploying additional troops at the border, a truce was declared on account of Ramzan," he said, adding that the worst part of the government's Kashmir policy was that those who were loyal to India in the Valley would also have to suffer.
Alleging that the prime minister was not even prepared to listen to the majority of his own partymen, Yadav said the country was passing through an "undeclared emergency".
Claiming that democracy was "murdered" with the formation of BJP-led governments in some states, even though the saffron party fared poorly compared to other parties in the elections, the Youth Congress chief said at least a committee should be formed to prevent "open horse-trading".
Condemning certain remarks made by BJP leaders against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, he said it exposed the culture of the saffron party.
Yadav claimed that the people of the country would give a befitting reply to the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, when like-minded parties would elect Rahul Gandhi as the prime minister.
The Youth Congress chief said he was in favour of elections being conducted on ballot papers, instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
