New Delhi, Jul 14: The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has so far made 168 government buildings approachable for differently-abled persons in the country under the Accessible India Campaign', an initiative of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD).

According to the infrastructure building agency, the work of making all the central government buildings accessible-friendly for differently-abled persons will be completed by August this year.

Out of 219 central government buildings, 168 buildings have been made differently-abled friendly. Remaining 51 buildings will be made fully accessible by August this year.

We have given estimates to concerned departments to carry out an exercise for making their buildings full accessible, CPWD Director General Prabhakar Singh told.

He said, as part of making buildings differently-abled friendly, facilities such as installation of ramps, panels on Braille script, are undertaken.

Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) also recently decided to carry out an audit of all the government buildings constructed by it to find out their accessibility to differently-abled persons in the national capital.

The PWD carries out construction of the Delhi government buildings, including offices, hospitals, schools, among others.

Apart from this, the CPWD has taken initiatives for generation of renewable energy in government buildings. Solar plants of capacity of 5.3 MVVp have been installed in 40 government buildings across the country.

According to the CPWD, the agency has also facilitated installation of rooftop solar PV plants in other central government buildings where electricity bills are being paid directly by the owner/user departments. (PTI)

Inaugurates newly constructed KV building at Kathua
KATHUA, JUNE 28: Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh today reviewed the   Amarnath Yatra arrangements here at Lakhanpur base camp - the entry point to Jammu & Kashmir.
He also welcomed the pilgrims entering the state and informed them that the State and Central Government has made adequate arrangements to make their yatra safe and comfortable.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Yatra is an annual affair and doesn`t belong to any particular community but   signifies the fusion of different cultures which highlights India’s unity in diversity. He further added that it is the collective responsibility of every stakeholder to make the Yatra successful. He urged the pilgrims to act as the ambassador of Jammu & Kashmir by informing about the facilities and arrangements they experience during their journey to the holy shrine back in their states.
          He assured the pilgrims that   Govt has put in every effort to make the Yatra convenient. He informed that elaborate    facilities like, drinking water, Medicare, power and fool proof security arrangements as also proper accommodation during halt has been made all along the route.
 Praying for smooth and safe yatra, the Union Minister said the pilgrims have to brave tough and inclement weather conditions during the yatra. He appealed the people to undertake the Yatra only after proper medical checkup and registration.
Later, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated a newly constructed building of Kendriya Vidyalaya on the outskirts of Kathua Town.
Earlier, Kendriya Vidyalaya was functioning from a temporary government building. The new building has been constructed over 70 kanal land allotted by district administration with 24 classrooms, 3 laboratories, 2 Computer Labs, Medical Room, Activity Room, Math Lab, Playground, Toilet for specially abled children and a library. An amount of Rs 21 crore was spent on the construction work which was executed by the CPWD department.
In his address, Union Minister highlighted the role of   teachers in shaping students’ future. He said that in the past few years majority of qualifiers of national level exams like civil services, IIT and Medical had come from Government educational institutes.
“In Jammu & Kashmir Indian Army made arrangements for providing free coaching to 32 students aspiring to become engineers. 7 of them qualified IIT exam and 25 got selected for NIT,” Dr. Singh informed and added that 40 students migrated to Govt. educational institution in border tehsil Hiranagar when provided with better educational facilities.  
Deputy Commissioner Rohit Khajuria, SSP Shridhar Patil, ADC, ACR, SP Traffic Rural, DC Excise Toll Post Lakhanpur, DC KVS Jammu Region, AC KVS Jammu Region, Principals, Engineers and other district officers were present at the function.

New Delhi, Apr 4: Modernisation and upgradation are necessary to keep up with changing times, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep S Puri ,said here on Wednesday while laying the foundation stone of the Redevelopment of Government of India Press, Minto Road.
Ms Meenakshi Lekhi, MP from New Delhi, Mr Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and senior officers of the Ministry were present on the occasion.
Government of India Press, Minto Road was established in 1931 and caters to the printing needs of both houses of the Parliament during session, important Gazette Notifications, Ordinances and Budget related materials. 
The Press is run in double shift in routine and three shifts during the Parliament sessions. 
The Press is proposed to be modernised with state of the art technology and machinery after getting it re-developed through CPWD. The sanctioned cost of the total project is Rs 338.56 crore out of which Rs 100.00 crore has been earmarked for plant and machinery.
After modernisation, the quality of printing will be at par with international standards and the press would be able to do expeditious printing for both the house of Parliament. The capacity will also increase to 166 crores A5 pages from the current level of 60 crores A5 pages. The multi-colour offset and digital printing would be
available on demand. The new building will have two basements and seven upper floors with constructed area of 50,445 sqm. 
The new press building will be a modern eco-friendly, centrally air-conditioned building with solar power generation, energy efficient LED fittings, waste water recycling and double glazed windows for thermal comfort.
CPWD has planned the construction of the new building in such a way that the press will remain fully functional during construction. The press will be ready by January, 2020. UNI

New Delhi, Apr 2: President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday urged officer trainees of the Central Public Works Department and the Central Engineering Service (Roads) to nurture a spirit of innovation and emerge as solution providers in the midst of challenges.  Speaking to separate groups of officer trainees when they called on him, he said their service provides them an enormous platform for serving the nation. All of them would be literally engineering the country’s growth and development.     He said that as future leaders of infrastructure projects, the officer trainees should practice engineering with a social conscience.   ``For instance, they must ensure that the public infrastructure they build – be it offices, residences or roads – was accessible to differently-abled citizens. While formal codes in this regard may exist, projects on the ground need to do more to ensure ease of access.’’   ``This aspect should not be treated as an add-on to an infrastructure project but should become integral to planning and implementation,’’ he said.    Mr Kovind said that as young engineers, they were all aware of the ills of climate change and the benefits of energy efficiency. All of them must ensure that buildings, roads and other infrastructure they create are energy efficient and environment friendly such as Net Zero Energy green buildings being taken up by the CPWD.  If ever the young engineers had any doubt what they can do for the nation and society, they should simply think of stalwart technocrats like M Visvesvaraya and E Sreedharan, he added. UNI

New Delhi, March 13: The Lodhi Colony area of Delhi was transformed into India’s very first open public art district as part of the St+art Festival in 2016.
The two month long festival had brought together over 25 street artists from India and across the world to brighten the city with art interventions like murals, installations and more.
The popular art district is visited by a huge amount of people along with many dignitaries throughout the year. One such luminary to grace the Lodhi Art District on Monday was 'The First Lady of France', Brigitte Macron.
The tour was conducted by the architect Pierre Guyot who is a part of St+art India Foundation, team.
The First Lady walked for an hour and a half across the Art District, sharing feedback of admiration specifically towards the quality of each piece of art as well as the nature and purposes of the project.
She was particularly impressed by the creation of an open air art museum that offers art to all the sector of the society in the most sharable and engaging manner. Furthermore, she highlighted the pleasure of calmly walking in a pleasant area such as Lodhi Colony, a rarity in the busy streets of Delhi.
The first lady also felt the vibes of an inspiring environment in which local and global flavours come together in every piece of art also thanks to the spirit of cultural exchange and collaboration that permeates the art district.
One example on all the wall “We Love Delhi”, vibrantly engaging result of the collaboration between the French duo Lek and Sowat and the Indian artist Hanif Kureshi.
The visit also highlights the successful and prolific collaboration between St+art India Foundation and the French institutions in India (Embassy of France, Institute Francaise, Alliance Francaise) which recently culminated in four projects across Mumbai, Hyderabad, Calcutta and Chandigarh on the occasion of the Bonjour India project.
Amit Syngle, COO, Asian Paints Ltd said, “With the Lodhi Art District, we hoped to add a bit of vibrancy to the city and uplift the moods, spirits and lives of the people. We wanted to take art to the masses and make it accessible to a wider range of spectators. The idea was to open spaces to dialogues, conversations and culture creation through the lens of the city”
Giulia Ambrogi, co-founder and curator of St+art India said,'In early 2016 we started Lodhi Art District thanks to the collaborative efforts and unconditioned support of Asian Paints, the Minister of Urban Development, CPWD, DUAC and more than 20 Embassies and Institutes of Culture. The aim was to present a unique experience for the city and its residents - activate a direct engagement and communication with the viewer through a holistic combination of content and forms. We are stocked to see the results of this effort such as the visit of the First Lady of France which, as others as well, confirmed the value of the project as a new area of interest for the capital. We are looking forward to enhance the district with new art experiences soon.”
St+art India Foundation is an organisation formed on the principle of ‘Art for All’ and works on art projects in public spaces.
The aim of the foundation is to make art accessible to a wider audience by taking it out of the conventional gallery space and embedding it within the cities we live in - making art truly democratic and for everyone. UNI

Kolkata, Oct 30: The Government observes October 31 all over the country as a day of special occasion, to foster and reinforce the Government’s dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of our nation, by celebrating it as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India. Sardar Patel, popularly known as the Iron Man of India, was born on October 31, 1875. Although his official birthday is still unknown, Patel wrote his date of birth to be October 31 on his matriculation examination paper, hence, the day is celebrated as his birth anniversary and is also observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day. One of the most influential personalities to have fought for Independence, Sardar Patel , hailing from a farmer's family lived a simple life and was known for his wisdom and diplomatic skills. Surpassing the celebrations in recent years, the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas this year is going to be a much bigger affair. The day will be marked by taking of pledges to uphold the nation’s unity, mass mobilization, paramilitary march past, Run for Unity, poster and quiz competitions and exhibitions to highlight the Sardar’s role at the critical juncture in India’s history. There will be celebrations at the national level and across the country. Preparations are in full swing. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, has written to Chief Ministers to make suitable arrangements for the celebrations. The occasion is really pious, as the nation not only has to mark its gratitude to a formidable personality of Indian freedom struggle, but at the same time educate and update the new generation about him. In the National Capital Territory of Delhi, celebrations on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas between 0700 and 0800 hours include offering Floral Tribute to Sardar Patel at Patel Chowk by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by administering Pledge and flagging off the Run for Unity. ‘Run’ will take place from National Stadium - C-Hexagon – Shah Jahan Road Radial – India Gate (1.5 km). A large gathering is expected to participate in the Run. P.V. Sindhu (Badminton), Mitali Raj (Cricket) and Sardar Singh (Hockey) are likely to participate. The Run will be organized by experienced Coaches from Sports Authority of India. Ministries/ Departments involved in organizing the programme include Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Department of Sports, Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and GNCTD and Organizations involved include CPWD, NDMC, DDA, SAI, CAPFs and Delhi Police. New Delhi, Jul 31 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 'extension' portion of Parliament House Annexe building here. The simple function was attended among others by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai and Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and Narendra Singh Tomar. The extended building, which occupies an area of 2100 sqm, has been constructed at the cost of Rs 261.85-crore. The construction work on the building was completed on December 31 last year, taking a total of about five years. The Parliament House Annexe building was constructed by CPWD in 1975 to accommodate Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariat and a few chambers for standing committees, but since then a large number of standing committees had been formed resulting in logical rise in the staff and the need for other logistics. So a decision was taken by the Lok Sabha Secretariat in 2008 to construct an extension of the building, and foundation for the same was laid in 2009. Special care has been taken to make the building energy and water efficient and reduce Co2 emission in its construction. UNI
