SRINAGAR, MAY 17: Minister for Power Development Sunil Kumar Sharma along with Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi today convened a meeting to take stock of functioning and progress on various developmental activities being carried out by the Power Development Department in Gurez sub-division.
Commissioner Secretary PDD Hridesh Kumar, Development Commissioner PDD Asgar Ali Majaz, Chief Engineer M&RE Shahnaz Goni, Chief Engineer Projects PDD Daljeet Singh, Chief Engineer PDC Fayaz Andrabi, Chief Engineer S&O Muzaffar Ahmad, Director P&S Rakesh Jamwal and other concerned were present in the meeting.
On the occasion, the Deputy Speaker, who is also MLA from Gurez constituency, raised issues related to power scenario in Gurez and about the pace of work on transmission line connecting Bandipora to Gurez and Gurez to Tulail under different schemes including DDUGJY.
The meeting was informed that the phase one of the project 66km long Bandipora to Gurez line has been approved while Gurez to Tulail line is under the process of approval.
The meeting was informed that the necessary approval for the phase second of the project will be sought shortly and work on the project will be started immediately and completed on a war footing.
Gurezi asked the officers to ensure that the power lines are laid underground at Razdan portion to prevent electricity breakdown during winters so that the people of these remote areas dont face inconvenience in this regard.
The Deputy Speaker also sought the progress of setting up of Receiving Station in Gurez for which tentative dates for laying foundation stone was proposed as May 25. He also sought an electric special sub-division in Gurez for which framing of a proposal was sought from the concerned authorities besides posting of Assistant Engineer to Gurez.
He enquired the status of work on 17 MW Markoot Power Project and was informed that Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) for the project was already envisaged and that the work on it will be started soon.
He also sought better facilities to the people of the sub-division during the holy month of Ramadan.


SRINAGAR, MAY 10: Former Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh was elected Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Basharat Bukhari moved the motion in the Assembly seeking his election to the post, while Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta seconded the motion.
Dr Nirmal Singh, MLA from Billawar constituency, was elected with a voice vote. 
The opposition had nominated Legislator, Usman Majeed as their candidate for the post of Speaker, whose name was proposed by MLA Abdul Majid Bhat (Larmi).
After the election, Dr Singh was taken to the Speaker's chair by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Basharat Bukhari, Minister for Urban Development, Sat Pal Sharma, Deputy Speaker, Nazir Gurezi, Legislators, Mian Altaf, My Tarigami, Er Abdul Rashid among other members.
Addressing the House, Dr Singh urged all the members to cooperate with him in conducting the house in an impartial manner. He said that Jammu and Kashmir full of diversities and at the same time full of challenges as well.
“This House has a greater role to address the diversities and challenges of the State,” he said.
“I assure you that I will rise up to the expectations of the members of the house and we will work in close coordination,” he added.
Dr Singh complimented the role of the former Speaker and current Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta for his unbiased role in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti felicitated Dr Singh on  being elected Speaker of the House.
Meanwhile speaking on the occasion, Minister for Urban Development, Sat Pal Sharma lauded the role of Dr Singh as Deputy Chief Minister. He hoped that Dr Singh would play his role as Speaker with utmost dedication and commitment.
Deputy Speaker, Nazir Gurezi extended his best wishes to the new speaker, saying that he is hopeful that Dr Singh would come up to the expectations of representatives of the assembly and would run the affairs of the assembly smoothly.
Gurezi also applauded the contribution of former speaker Kavinder Gupta and said that former speaker also run affairs of the assembly smoothly and his contribution would always be remembered.
MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmad hoped that Dr Singh would come up to the expectations of the opposition parties. He assured that his party will extend full support to the speaker in running the house smoothly.
Extending congratulations to new Speaker, Legislator, Rajesh Gupta said that he is hopeful that Dr Singh would perform the new assignment with the same enthusiasm as he performed as deputy Chief Minister of the state.
Legislator, MY Yousuf Tarigami, on the occasion said that Dr Singh has a great responsibility to run the assembly smoothly and he is hopeful that he would run the assembly as per rules and regulations. He said that both the ruling and opposition parties would extend his support to speaker maintain the sanctity of the assembly.
Legislator, Engineer Abdul Rashid while congratulating the newly appointed Speaker, Dr Nirmal Singh said that the responsibilities have doubled for Dr Singh with the new assignment. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has a special privilege in the county and the members and the Speaker should uphold the sanctity of the House.


                JAMMU, JANUARY 23: Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today welcomed the meritorious students belonging to various districts of the Kashmir valley in the assembly hall.
            The students witnessed the assembly proceedings while the discussion on Demand of Grants for the Department of Education was going on.      
Later, the students also met the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi in their office Chambers in Legislative Assembly and shared their experiences with them.
            Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi, Secretary Education, Farooq Ahmed Shah, Director School Education, Kashmir, Dr G N Itoo, Director School Education, Jammu Ravinder Singh besides other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
            The students were invited by the Speaker, to watch the proceedings being conducted in the House and personally see how the public issues are being raised by the Legislators.

            The Speaker welcomed the students in the House and expressed hope that the experience of watching proceedings will help them in understanding the functioning of the legislature especially how the representatives discuss the issues of public importance for the development of the people.



JAMMU, JANUARY   18: Deputy Speakers Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today asked the government to conduct a thorough probe into the mysterious death of a minor girl in Hiranagar area of district Kathua.
Pertinently, an eight year old girl, who went missing last week, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her native village in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district on Wednesday.
As soon as the House resumed for days proceedings, MLA Vikar Rasool Wani, joined by several legislators, raised the issue in the House.

Gurezi also directed the government to come up with a statement in the house in this regard.

Convenes public meet at Bathindi, Channi
JAMMU, DECEMBER 26: Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar Kavinder Gupta today announced Rs 20 lakh for immediate measures to augment water supply in Bathindi till the works on new Rs.18 crore WSS Batala and Rs.10 crore WSS Bathindi are  launched, giving  respite to the residents facing water shortage.
 As part of the project, 6 inches water pipes will be installed over a stretch of 850 meter and the augmented water supply will cater to multiple localities including Peer Bagh, Azad colony, Khalsa colony and adjoining areas.
Kavinder Gupta announced this while addressing a public meet in the area. 
The Speaker was accompanied by officers from PHE department.
He said that steps are underway to augment basic necessities including water, power supply, proper roads and sanitation in line with the growing requirements of the area. He said that works have been executed on multiple fronts like construction and upgradation of main roads and link roads, installation of transformers, besides the Sunjwan-Chatta road constructed with Rs. 3.63 crore etc.
On the occasion, people also presented their demands to the Speaker. Giving a patient hearing to the projected demands, the Speaker assured the people that concerted efforts will be made to provide better amenities and mitigate their problems in a time bound manner.
Kavinder Gupta, while interacting with the locals, apprised them in detail of various initiatives that have been taken up in these localities with regards to reinforcing power supply, road network, drainage systems, etc.
Later, the Speaker convened a public meet at Channi Himmat.
Describing public participation essential for better development, the Speaker asked the people to coordinate with administration and personally monitor the development works being executed in their respective areas.

He also assured that the demands of the people will be taken up at the earliest.


Hands over Ration Cards to designated beneficiaries
JAMMU, DECEMBER 25: Speaker, Legislative Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar Constituency, Kavinder Gupta today said that many development works have been initiated in the Gandhi Nagar Constituency to improve leaving standard of the people of the area and to ensure all basic necessities are provided to the people at their doorsteps.
This was stated by the Speaker while addressing a huge gathering after inaugurating the Culvert at Chatta Village.
MLC Vikram Randhawa was also present on the occasion.
This culvert has been constructed at a cost of Rs 11.5 lakh, funds for which were provided by the MLC under his CDF.  The works for the project were executed by Rural Development Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta said that main focus of the government is on providing better amenities to the people including roads, power, water supply, sanitation among others and no compromises are being made with regards to the quality of works.
He informed the people that a new transformer will be set up in the area to augment the power supply in the area. Besides, works are also underway to improve the basic infrastructure for public utilities in the area.
He also informed the people that two projects of 18 crore each and one project of 15 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the constituency and works on these project would be started shortly. He further informed that Rs 4 crore has been spent on upgradation of roads in the constituency for strengthened road connectivity.         
          MLC Vikram Randhawa during his address thanked the people for their active participation in the developmental process in their area.
On the occasion, the Speaker also handed over ration cards to designated beneficiaries of the area.
Locals put forth their demands before the Speaker including installation of towers to improve mobile connectivity, construction of link roads in the area, adequate water and power supply, construction of culverts, lanes and drains, opening of Panchayat Ghar, installation of transform and other development works.
He assured people that their genuine demands would be fulfilled at the earliest.
Among others, senior officers of concerned department, local representatives and a large number of locals were present on the occasion.

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 26: The Deputy Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today convened a meeting to review functioning of the education sector in Gurez.
During the meeting, various issues pertaining to the development and upgradation of education facilities in Gurez which include providing of sufficient staffs, creation of lecturer posts, transfer policy, implementation of RMSA and SSA, fencing of school premises, and tendering of related development works were discussed threadbare.
The Deputy Speaker stressed upon the concerned authorities to clear all bottlenecks for smooth and timely completion of the ongoing works under the Education sector.

Commissioner Secretary Education Department, Farooq Ahmad Shah, besides other senior officers of the Department and allied agencies and other concerned, attended the meeting.
