Srinagar, Aug 23: Satya Pal Malik today took oath as the 13th Jammu and Kashmir governor.

He was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Gita Mittal at a function at Raj Bhawan here.

Former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were among over 400 guests present at the ceremony.

Senior officials of civil administration, police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and the Army were also present at the event.

Malik replaced Narendra Nath Vohra, who was given a two-month extension after completing 10 years as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Vohra was one of the longest serving governors of the state after Karan Singh, who held the post for nearly 15 years -- first as 'Sadr-e-Riyasat' and then as the governor in 1950s and 1960s.

Malik, former governor of Bihar, arrived here yesterday.

SRINAGAR, JULY 09: Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Dr Nirmal Singh today convened a meeting with the Commissioner Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Farooq Ahmed Shah and took stock of development activities being carried out in Billawar Constituency by the PHE, Irrigation and FC department here today.
Threadbare discussions were held on various developmental issues pertaining to Billawar constituency including providing of adequate clean drinking water to the people of his constituency, repairing of defunct hand pumps, posting of adequate staff, construction and repairing of nallah.
The Speaker directed Commissioner Secretary PHE to give necessary directions in this regard to the concerned authorities of the department so that the ongoing works on the various projects could be expedited and completed as early as possible.
Commissioner Secretary assured the Speaker that he will take all necessary steps on the issues highlighted and projected in the meeting regarding the developmental activities in his constituency.
Earlier, Principal Secretary, Home Department also called on the Speaker.

550 students sent on exposure tour
JAMMU, JANUARY 19: Secretary Education, Farooq Ahmad Shah today convened a meeting of Chief Education Officers through video conferencing to review the functioning of the department.
Secretary Education reviewed the execution of various ongoing works that have been taken up under RMSA and SSA and directed the concerned officers to expedite the works.
He directed both the Directors  to implement the recent instructions given by the Education Minister wherein he asked the concerned to provide detailed information regarding the dilapidated conditions of the schools in the state so that steps for reconstruction would be taken up  at an earliest.

The meeting was also informed that 550 students from Kashmir division were sent on educational tours outside the state, adding that in  2018-2019 the department would send 10000 students for such tours.  to make them  aware of educational, cultural and other activities happening in the rest of the country.
