Garden to be thrown open for public on March 29

JAMMU, MARCH 27 : " Tulip garden developed by the Department of Floriculture at Sanasar would be thrown open for public on March 29, 2018.
This was informed by Director Floriculture, Jammu Babila Rakwal during a press conference here today. 
She informed that the garden in Sanasar has been developed on four kanals given by Patnitop Development Authority to develop it as major  tourist attraction.
She further informed that three varieties of Tulips including Double Early Largo, Single Early Candelillia and Single Early Purissima would be displayed in the garden. 
She said  that the department is contemplating to develop Tulip garden in Bhaderwah as it has suitable climatic conditions for their plantation. The seeds of these Tulip plants would be given to the farmers so that they can increase its crop, she stressed.



SRINAGAR, MARCH 17: Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Floriculture, Javaid Mustafa Mir inaugurated floriculture fair at Floriculture Mandi, Rajbagh here today.
The Fair was organized by Department of Floriculture with an aim to showcase their activities and success stories of growers all over the valley.
On the occasion, the Minister said that with the introduction of latest technology in floriculture, the sector has the potential in filliping socio-economic conditions of the farming community in the State. 
Later, he went to the stalls which were set up by growers registered with the department. He lauded the usage of the modern equipment in the field and achievements of growers.
On the occasion, growers apprised the Minister about the difficulties being faced by them during cultivation which include lack of heating facility in the winter season.
Referring to the achievements registered by the Department, Director Floriculture MathoraMasoom said that floriculture has a lot of potential in providing livelihood to the youth as it is evident from the success stories from the Valley growers.
Deputy Director Floriculture, Nazir Ahmad Reshi said that agro-climatic conditions of Kashmir are highly suited for the production of flowers and in this regard, the department is providing infrastructure, manure and plant material on subsidized rates to the cultivators.
District Floriculture officers, farmers and other concerned were also present on the occasion.

Floriculture sector in JK has immense growth potential: Javaid Mustafa Mir
JAMMU, MARCH 13: Minister for Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Floriculture, Javaid Mustafa Mir along with Minister of State for Education, Tourism, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi today attended the State cum District Level Commercial Floriculture event here at Gulshan Ground, Police Auditorium.
Vice Chairman, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans, Daljit Singh Chib, Commissioner, Secretary, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Director Floriculture, Jammu, BabilaRakwal besides Districts officers of floriculture department were present on the occasion.
 The daylong event commenced with the inauguration of exhibition by the Ministers where stalls were installed by various departments and organizations to display the varied floriculture products, flowers, tools, sprayers and many alike.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Floriculture, Javaid Mustafa Mir said that the state of J&K has immense potential for growth in floriculture sector and called for collective efforts by the department and the farmers to tap its potential to the optimal.
The Minister said that the floriculture is the face of J&K and further stressed on strengthening the floriculture sector in the state.
The government has initiated several projects on the line of national and international level concepts to develop the parks, the Minister said, adding that, a component of physical activities such as gyms to be included in the development plan of parks.
The Minister appreciated the working of the floriculture department and said that everyone associated with the floriculture is making its contribution to develop the floriculture sector in the state.
Javaid Mustafa Mir asked the farmers who are engage in other type of farming to adopt floriculture for an alternate source of income.
The Minister welcomed the idea for facilitating the employees and said that such gestures proved to be a motivational force and results in more efficient working.
During her address, Minister of State for Education, Tourism, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi stressed on the need to draft the floriculture policy, establishing centre of excellence for floriculture and add on market value to make the floriculture sector a more lucrative option for the farmers.
She further exhorted upon the adoption of integrated farming concept and said that the state government will take all the necessary measures required to expand the scale of the floriculture in J&K.
Priya asked the concerned officers to ensure that the centrally sponsored schemes must reach the beneficiaries. She said that the farmers in the state needs handholding and a right guiding force and asked the concerned to impart proper training to the farmers and aware them about various productive opportunities of flower farming.
During the event, the Experts briefed the farmers who came in large numbers from across the state about the commercial aspects of the floriculture and held an interactive session with them. Documentary showcasing the floriculture sector of Jammu region was also screened during the event. Farmers also provided with an opportunity to share their experience in varied nature of flower farming.
 Unveiling of the logo for the floriculture department remained one of the main highlights of the event. Officials and gardeners of floriculture department were facilitated by the dignitaries for putting in dedicated efforts in decorating Assembly and Council during Budget Session.
Later, the Ministers flagged off a refrigerated van for Doda region fulfilling the commitment made by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for providing the transportation facility for flower growers of the said region.


            REASI, SEPTEMBER 29: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu today concluded four day long vocational training programme on Entrepreneurship Development in Floriculture here at village Kanjli.
          The programme was attended by a large number of trainees who were rigorously trained by the KVK experts on the technical know-how about the commercial floriculture.
          The major objective of the programme was to boost the floriculture industry in this hilly district and to provide technical assistance to the farmers for better results of the floriculture crops. Various theoretical and technical sessions were arranged in the programme.
          Addressing the concluding ceremony of the event Scientist and Head of KVK Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal, said that floriculture is gaining momentum in the district and is proving a good means of earning profit. In his speech he urged the farmers to take up commercial floriculture as an enterprise which can enable them to earn 4-5 times more profit as compared to other crops.
He said that floriculture crops such as marigold, gladiolus, rose, gerbera and chrysanthemum are the alternate crops for the area and there is ample market availability of these crops at both Katra and Jammu. He added that the farmers can fetch more prices by the adoption of advance technologies in floriculture.
The farmers were also educated for the scientific cultivation of marigold, gladiolus and rose. He demonstrated the nursery raising techniques in marigold and elaborated Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) in marigold.

Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi elaborated on the diseases and insect-pests management in floriculture crops and also highlighted the protected cultivation of flowers besides encouraging the farmers to have low cost polyhouse units at their farms so that they can get more yield of flowers throughout the year.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 22- J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans today arranged a field visit to Floriculture Nurseries developed by various progressive entrepreneurs/Farmers in downtown area of District Srinagar.
To access the implementation of schemes under Floriculture Sector, and to see the achievements of Progressive Farmers engaged in Floriculture Sector and to hear their problems at gross root level,  Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans, Daljit Singh Chib along with Abdul Hamid Wani, Secretary, State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans,  Naseer Ahmad Hussaini, District Floriculture Officer, Srinagar and  Tauseef Ahmad, Assistant Floriculture Officer, Srinagar visited Lal Bazaar locality in Srinagar District.  
Chib was happy to see the nursery "Exotic Flora, Inc (A Holland Joint Venture) developed by Progressive entrepreneurs in downtown locality at Lal Bazar Srinagar.
The Vice Chairman Kissan Board appreciated the work of these progressive entrepreneurs who have developed various varieties of cut flowers and various varieties of hybrid seeds there which were previously imported from Holland and France.
The progressive farmers highlighted various bottle necks and problems which hinder the growth of floriculture sector in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
It was informed that Floriculture is a second largest Industry after Horticulture, where maximum youths of Jammu and Kashmir State can be absorbed provided the problems faced by entrepreneurs in this trade are addressed by the Government.
Chib listened to the demands of farmers and gave a patient hearing. He assured these farmers / entrepreneurs that J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans will take up these problems with Chief Minister (Chairperson of the Board) J&K State for their redressal well in time.

He gave on spot instructions to the officers of Floriculture Department for identification of these problems with their possible solution so that these problems can be addressed.

JAMMU JUNE 06:  A plantation drive was conducted by the Department of Floriculture Jammu in different parks and gardens of Jammu Division to mark celebration of World Environment Day.
On the occasion, the tree saplings like Sita Ashok (Saraca Indica), Moulsari (Mimsopus Elengii), Chinese Rain Tree, Ficus benjamina etc, were planted in different parks and gardens of the region.
Director Floriculture Jammu, Babila Rakwal, inaugurated the plantation drive at Bagh-e-Bahu garden.
Project Director, Bagh-e-Bahu Project, Jammu, Sunil Misri, Deputy Director, Floriculture Jammu, A.K. Gupta, Landscape Officer Bagh-e-Bahu, D.V. Gupta and Floriculture Officer Jammu, S.K. Sultan were present on the ocassion.
Director Floriculture highlighted the importance of the day and recalled the history when on June 1973 this day was first adopted as World Environment Day by the United Nations and celebrated across the world. She referred to the impact of global warming, industrial pollution, threat to environment due to felling of trees and shrinking resources due to increasing population. She impressed upon all the officers of the Department to undertake more and more plantation drives in the ensuing monsoon.
SAMBA, JUNE 05: To mark the celebration of World Environment Day, a plantation drive was conducted here today under the theme ‘Connecting people to nature’ during which various saplings were planted alongside National Highway near Veer Bhoomi Park.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tilak Raj Sharma, ZSWO, Assistant Floriculture Officer, prominent citizens and residents of the area actively participated in the drive.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC appealed the people to plant more and more trees in their surrounding areas to deal with the situation arising due to rapid climatic change. “Increased tree cover would reduce the solar radiation reaching the ground surface thereby providing relief from the scorching heat being faced in the summer season”, he added.
Floriculture Department organizes felicitation function

SRINAGAR, MAY 25: Department of Floriculture today organized felicitation function to honor the participants who participated in various competitions held during the Tulip festival-2017.
Secretary, Floriculture, Tourism, Parks & Garden and Education Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah was the chief guest on the occasion.
Mr. Farooq Shah said that the State is bestowed with scenic natural beauty, high mountains, green lush meadows and world famous water bodies, saying that it is duty of every one of us to work for their protection, preservation and conservation. He urged upon the youth particularly students community for not using polythene in their day to day life to make the state polythene free. He termed tourism industry as the back bone of state economy of which most of people are linked with it.
Mr. Farooq Shah said that the area of Tulip garden would be extended and more varieties of Tulip bulbs and Cherry Plasm would be introduced in the garden during the next season.
Mr. Farooq Shah said the Government is making all out efforts for beautification of parks and gardens to attract more and more local, domestic and foreign tourists. He said work on beautification of eight gardens in Jawahar Nagar area is going-on in full swing which would be thrown open very shortly. He informed that Dahlia Park would also thrown open for public within 15 days.  
Complimenting the Floriculture department for maintaining Tulip Garden, the Secretary said that more than two lakh tourists and locals visited during the Tulip festival. He also complimented the students and other award winners who were adjudged first, second and third respectively in art and photography competitions during the Tulip Festival-2017.
 Urging upon the concerned for organizing such more competitions during the festival, the Secretary said that such events provide platform to budding artists to show hidden artistic potential among them. He asked the concerned for organizing such events in future ensuring massive participation of students.
Later, the Secretary distributed certificates of appreciation, trophies and mementoes among the students of various schools and other artists of Valley who were adjudged first, second and third respectively in art and photography competitions held during the Tulip Festival-2017.  He also handed over mementoes among different departments which participated during the festival.

Pertinent to mention that the Tulip Festival which commenced from 1 April 2017 ran for 40 days.
