Mumbai, Jul 31: Benchmark Sensex slipped from life highs to fall over 100 points to 37,381.05 today as markets took a breather after six consecutive record-setting sessions.

Weak trend in other Asian markets, muted earnings and fresh foreign capital outflows weighed on investor sentiment here.

Overall market mood was cautious as investors were on a wait-and-watch mode ahead of RBI policy outcome, scheduled tomorrow, and profit-booking at record level, brokers said.

The 30-share Sensex, after rising to 37,534.95 points in early trade, turned negative and retreated from record high by losing 113.55, or 0.30 per cent, to 37,381.05.

The gauge had gained 998.03 points in the previous six sessions.

The broader Nifty also slipped from record high by falling 35.40 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 11,284.15.

Major losers were HDFC, Vedanta, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, ITC, Tata Motors, Wipro, Kotak Bank, TCS, HDFC Bank, Infosys, SBI and Coal India, falling up to 1.14 per cent.

Sectoral indices led by metal, teck, IT, infrastructure, FMCG, banking, PSU, capital goods and oil & gas stocks were trading in the negative zone.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net of Rs 234.04 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net of Rs 48.58 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.

Asian shares were trading lower after Wall Street posted losses amid weakness in the technology sector.

Japan's Nikkei shed 0.39 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.56 per cent, while Shanghai Composite index fell by 0.03 per cent in early trade today.

The US Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee, meanwhile, was due to begin its own monetary policy meeting today, with a decision due on Wednesday. The Fed is expected to keep rates steady at the end of its meeting.

Dow Jones Industrial Average ended lower by 0.57 per cent in yesterday's trade.

Mumbai, Jul 9: The benchmark Sensex today rose over 200 points, while Nifty reclaimed the 10,800-mark on widespread buying in metals, auto, IT and banking counters, amid firm Asian cues and a strengthening rupee.

The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 244.84 points, or 0.69 per cent, to 35,902.70. The gauge had gained 83.31 points in the previous session on Friday.

All sectoral indices, led by metal, auto, infrastructure, power, capital goods, healthcare and bankex, were in the green, rising up to 1.61 per cent.

The NSE Nifty recaptured the key 10,800-level by rising 68.35 points, or 0.63 per cent, to 10,841.00.

Major gainers were Tata Steel, Vedanta, Yes Bank, Tata Motors, RIL, M&M , Asian Paints, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid, Coal India, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, L&T, SBI, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Infosys, gaining up to 1.85 per cent.

Investors are also looking forward to the quarterly results of IT majors TCS and Infosys that will kick-start the earnings season later this week.

TCS was trading lower by 1.28 per cent at Rs 1,888.80, while Infosys was up 0.62 per cent at Rs 1,292.40.

Asian shares rose tracking gains on Wall Street after the release of strong jobs data for June, which muffled the impact of an escalating US-China trade dispute.

Rupee rose by 30 paise to trade at 68.57 against the US dollar at the forex market, fuelling the uptrend in domestic equities.



Brokers said besides fresh buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs), a firm trend at other Asian markets influenced sentiments.

DIIs bought shares worth a net of Rs 1,480.82 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold equities to the tune of Rs 968.18 crore on Friday, provisional data showed.

Globally, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.61 per cent, Japan's Nikkei gained 3.11 per cent, while China's Shanghai Composite Index advanced 1.65 per cent.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.41 per cent higher on Friday.

Mumbai, Jan 16: The BSE sensex on Tuesday fell marginally by 10.35 points to 34,833.16 on profit booking by local operators. 
The Nifty of National Stocks Exchange (NSE) declined by 12.10 points to 10,729.45.
The sensex registered intra day high and low at 34,936.03 and 34,759.88 respectvely.
The Nifty recorded intra day high and low at 10,762.35 and 10,705.20 respectively. 
The sectoral indices that eased were Materials, Consumer Discretionary Goods and Servies, Power kept the market weak in early trade.
The losers were Coal India by 1.78 pc to Rs 300, Tata Motors by 1.56 pc to Rs 425, Tata Steel by 1.47 pc to rs 771.65 and Yes Bank by 1.40 pc to Rs 331.25.
The gainers were Wipro by 3.11 pc to Rs 326.30, TCS by 3.05 pc to Rs 2831.05 and ICICI Bank by 0.87 pc to Rs 332.30. UNI


Srinagar, Aug 22 :  Normal banking operations came to a grinding halt in public sector banks in Kashmir valley due to a day-long countrywide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) against the Centre's proposed consolidation move, besides raising other demands. However, private sector banks, including J&K bank, ICICI and HDFC bank, was functioning normally. Services like withdrawal and deposits at bank branches, besides cheque clearance, NEFT and RTGS transactions have come to a halt, badly affecting lakhs of customers in the state, including Kashmir valley. “I have no clue why the bank in closed. I have to deposit money in my son’s account, who is in Delhi. It will be very difficult for him to arrange the fee for his examination,” said Shabir Ahmad, who was enquiring about reason for the closure of the financial institute outside Syndicate Bank on Exchange road. The UFBU, which is an umbrella body of nine unions, including All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and the National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW), is protesting against consolidation move of the government. The UFBU is also demanding that there should be no write-off policy for non Performing Assets (NPAs) of corporate loans, declaring willful default of loans as criminal offence, besides other demands.
