Mumbai, Aug 13: Reversing all its early gains, the Indian rupee nosedived to its life-time low of 69.62, tumbling by 79 paise against the US dollar in morning trade today in line with weakening domestic equities and global markets rout.
Increased demand for the US currency from importers and banks amid fresh foreign fund outflows mainly hit the rupee sentiment, forex traders said.
The rupee's previous record low was 69.13, marked on July 20, 2018.
On Friday, the rupee had lost 15 paise to end at 68.83 against the resurgent dollar.
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex fell over 288 points and the NSE Nifty dipped below the 11,400-level in opening trade today on heavy losses in PSUs, auto, metal and banking counters amid a global rout in equity markets.
A weak trend in Asia coupled with sell-offs on Wall Street last week and a slump in the Turkish lira dampened the sentiment globally, brokers said.
On a net basis, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 510.66 crore Friday, as per provisional data. (PTI)
Mumbai, Aug 13: The BSE Sensex fell over 288 points and the NSE Nifty dipped below the 11,400-level in opening trade today on heavy losses in PSUs, auto, metal and banking counters amid a global rout in equity markets.
A weak trend in Asia coupled with sell-offs on Wall Street last week and a slump in the Turkish lira dampened the sentiment globally, traders said.
The BSE 30-share barometer tanked 288.16 points, or 0.76 per cent, to 37,581.07. The gauge had lost 155.14 in the previous session.
Sectoral indices led by PSU, metal, infrastructure, power, oil & gas, auto, capital goods, realty and consumer durables were trading in the negative terrain, falling by up to 1.43 per cent.
The NSE Nifty was trading down by 83.75 points, or 0.73 per cent, at 11,345.75.
The laggards were Vedanta, Tata Motors, NTPC, HDFC, Power Grid, RIL, ONGC, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paints, Yes Bank, Adani Ports, Kotak Bank, Yes Bank and L&T, falling up to 3.98 per cent.
Foreign funds sold shares worth Rs 510.66 crore, while domestic institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 457.83 crore on Friday, provisional data showed.
Asian shares tumbled after investor sentiment took a hit amid the slump in the Turkish currency, lira, on geopolitical developments.
In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.44 per cent, Japan's Nikkei shed 0.83 per cent, while Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.94 per cent in their late morning deals.
US stocks dropped on Friday, triggered by fears over the sell-offs in the lira after US President Donald Trump said he had approved the doubling of metal tariffs against Turkey on Friday.

Mumbai, Aug 2: The BSE Sensex dropped over 200 points to 37,373.08 today on heavy selling in metal, auto, banking, capital and realty stocks amid sustained capital outflows by foreign funds after the RBI yesterday hiked repo rate for the second time in two months.
The repo rate, at which the central bank lends to other banks, now stands at 6.5 per cent.
Moreover, fall in Asian stocks on renewed US-China trade war concerns influenced the sentiment here, brokers said.
The 30-share index dropped 248.42 points, or 0.66 per cent, to 37,273.20. The gauge had lost 84.96 points in yesterday's session.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty fell 72.80 points, or 0.64 per cent to 11,273.40.
Sectoral indices led by metal, auto, banking, capital goods and realty, falling up to 1.30 per cent.
Major losers were Vedanta, Tata Steel, Yes Bank, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hero Motocorp, M&M, HDFC, RIL, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports, NTPC, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank, losing up to 2.64 per cent.
Meanwhile, Sun Pharma, PowerGrid, Coal India, HUL, IndusInd Bank, ONGC and Infosys rose up to 1.42 per cent.
On a net basis, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 95.94 crore yesterday and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 562.33 crore, provisional data showed.
Elsewhere in Asia, Japan's Nikkei fell 0.36 per cent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.54 per cent in early trade. China's Shanghai Composite index too was down 0.33 per cent.
US stocks closed mostly lower yesterday after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged but signalled another imminent rate increase. Fresh worries over US-China trade friction too dampened sentiment.

Mumbai, Aug 1: Breaking all previous records, the BSE Sensex advanced by over 80 points to hit a new peak of 37,690.23, while the Nifty scaled a fresh high of 11,378.95 in opening trade ahead of the Reserve Bank's bi-monthly policy meet outcome due later in the day.
The 30-share index surged 83.65 points, or 0.22 per cent, to an all-time high of 37,690.23.
The gauge had gained 1,110.21 points in the previous seven record-setting sessions and closed at an all-time high of 37,606.58 points in the previous session.
The broader NSE Nifty too hit a new high by rising 22.45 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 11,378.95.
All sectoral indices led by oil & gas, FMCG, PSU, metal and banking stocks rose up to 0.95 per cent.
Brokers said investors were seen raising bets ahead of the monetary policy announcement, and foreign institutional investors too showed buying interest.
Shares of Bajaj auto, Vedanta, TCS, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Bank, IndusInd Bank, M&M, ITC, SBI, Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paints, RIL, Coal India, Axis Bank and Yes Bank, rose up to 1.64 per cent.
Among the top losers were Tata Motors, Axis Bank, NTPC, Infosys and HDFC, falling up to 3 per cent.
Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net of Rs 572.21 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net of Rs 290.87 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.
Asian stocks edged higher, following overnight gains in Wall Street, as a report of attempts to renew talks between the US and China eased trade war fears, but investors will be keeping a close eye on US Fed policy outcome due today.

Mumbai, Jul 27: The Sensex rallied over 300 points, and Nifty breached the 11,200 mark for the first time in early trade today, as ITC lifted benchmark bourses to fresh life-time highs after posting strong Q1 results.
Better-then-expected quarterly earnings by select index heavyweights, positive Asian cues and firm foreign capital inflows boosted investor sentiment here.
Keeping up its record setting spree for the fifth straight session the 30-share Sensex added 308.77 points, or 0.83 per cent, to hit a new peak of 37,293.41.
The index had gained 633.41 points in the previous five straight sessions.
NSE Nifty, too, jumped 77 points or 0.69 per cent to quote at new high of 11,244.30.
All BSE sectoral indices, led by FMCG, metal, consumer durables, banking, power and auto, rose up to 1.27 per cent.
ITC was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, surging 6.48 per cent to Rs 305.75, after it posted 10 per cent increase in standalone net profit at Rs 2,818.68 crore for the first quarter ended on June 30, 2018, aided by lower expenses, good growth in agri-business and other FMCG business despite decline in cigarettes sales.
Other gainers were Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints, Kotak Bank, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, Vedanta, HDFC and Wipro, surging up to 3 per cent.
RIL rose 0.45 per cent to Rs 1,115.45, ahead of its quarterly earnings scheduled today.
Brokers said investors were busy creating new positions following the beginning of the August futures and options (F&O) series leading to the rally.
Moreover, data showing that foreign institutional investors made sizeable buying yesterday, buoyed sentiment.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net of Rs 2,453.57 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net of Rs 2,716.04 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.
Overseas, Asian stocks edged higher following a series of steps by China shifting to stimulus mode.
Japan's Nikkei quoted 0.28 per cent higher, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.03 per cent in the early trade.
However, China's Shanghai composite index shed 0.06 per cent.

Mumbai, Jul 26: The BSE Sensex hit the 37,000 level for the first time today on widespread buying in capital goods, FMCG, realty and banking stocks amid heavy buying by domestic institutional investors and positive global cues.
NSE Nifty too touched a new peak of 11,172.20.
Short-covering of bets, today being the last session of July expiry in the derivatives segment, and strengthening rupee against the dollar, kept the overall market sentiment high.
The 30-share index crossed the 37,000-mark by jumping 156.42 points, or 0.42 per cent, to 37,014.65 in early trade today, breaching its previous intra-day record of 36,947.18 hit yesterday.
Strong gains in capital goods, FMCG, realty, banking, PSU, auto, healthcare, infrastructure, consumer durables and oil and gas stocks helped the index top the new milestone.
The NSE Nifty spurted 40.20 points, or 0.36 per cent, to hit a new peak of 11,172.20, surpassing its previous (intra-day) record of 11,171.55 hit on January 29.
Analysts said strong liquidity in the market following unabated buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs) and encouraging Q1 earnings by some companies lifted the mood.
On a net basis, DIIs bought shares worth Rs 97.64 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,195.75 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.
Top gainers that helped Sensex scale its new peak were SBI, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, ITC, Coal India, L&T, ONGC, HDFC Bank, RIL, Maruti, M&M, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Bank and HDFC, rising up to 1.79 per cent.
While, Asian Paints, Hero MotoCorp, Wipro and Infosys were among the top losers, shedding up to 1 per cent.
Asian stocks climbed tracking gains in US shares. US equities advanced yesterday, after US President Donald Trump reached an agreement with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker aimed at averting a transatlantic trade war.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.56 per cent, Japan's Nikkei gained 0.02 per cent in early deals.
Shanghai Composite Index, however, shed 0.01 per cent.

Mumbai, Jul 25: The benchmark Sensex turned volatile after hitting a new high of 36,928.06 in early session as investors turned cautious ahead of July futures and options (F&O) expiry amid mixed quarterly earnings.
The 30-share index rose by 102.97 (rpt) 102.97 points, or 0.27 per cent, to hit a new high of 36,928.06, bettering its previous intra-day record of 36,902.06 hit yesterday.
However, the index soon turned choppy and was trading 16.05 points, or 0.04 per cent, higher at 36,841.15 at 0940 hrs.
The gauge had rallied 473.87 points in the previous three sessions.
The 50-share NSE Nifty too turned cautious and was trading 4.40 points, or 0.04 per cent, lower at 11,129.90.
Sentiment remained cautious ahead of July series F&O expiry scheduled tomorrow amid mixed quarterly earnings, brokers said.
Prominent gainers were Vedanta, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, Adani Ports, ONGC, Sn Pharma, SBI, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, HDFC, Wipro, L&T and PowerGrid, rising up to 1.92 per cent.
Top losers include Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, NTPC, Coal India, Maruti and TCS falling up to 2 per cent.
Meanwhile, on a net basis, foreign funds bought shares worth Rs 104.34 crore, while domestic institutional investors made purchases worth Rs 513.78 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.
Elsewhere in Asia, Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.09 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.85 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei gained 0.54 per cent in early deals.

Mumbai, Jul 17: The BSE Sensex recovered over 107 points to 36,431.17 in early trade today on fresh buying by investors after a sharp drop on global crude oil prices and a strengthening rupee.
The 30-share index, which had lost 224.64 points in the previous two sessions, rebounded 107.40 points, or 0.30 per cent, to 36,431.17 with stocks of oil & gas, FMCG, infrastructure, PSU, banking, consumer durables and auto sectors rising by up to 1.69 per cent.
Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty was trading 40.20 points, or 0.37 per cent, higher at 10,977.05.
Major gainers that supported the recovery were Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, Yes Bank, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Vedanta Ltd, M&M, ONGC, RIL, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj auto and Infosys.
Shares of state-run oil marketing companies such as HPCL, BPCL and IOC were back in demand and rose by up to 3.34 per cent, supported by a sharp fall in crude prices.
Shares of FMCG major Hindustan Unilever advanced 1.48 per cent to Rs 1,779.95 in early trade after the company yesterday posted a 19.17 per cent increase in standalone net profit at Rs 1,529 crore for the first quarter ended June 30.
Traders said besides encouraging earnings posted by some bluechip companies, a mixed trend at other Asian markets as investors tracked overnight gains on Wall Street, influenced trading sentiments here.
Investors were also awaiting US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's first congressional testimony for hints on the pace of interest rate hikes, the added.
Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net of Rs 625.68 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) offloaded shares worth a net of Rs 70.30 crore yesterday, provisional data showed.
Elsewhere in Asia, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.77 per cent, while Singapore Index was up 0.29 per cent in early trade today. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.92 per cent and Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.01 per cent.

Mumbai, Jul 9: The benchmark Sensex today rose over 200 points, while Nifty reclaimed the 10,800-mark on widespread buying in metals, auto, IT and banking counters, amid firm Asian cues and a strengthening rupee.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 244.84 points, or 0.69 per cent, to 35,902.70. The gauge had gained 83.31 points in the previous session on Friday.
All sectoral indices, led by metal, auto, infrastructure, power, capital goods, healthcare and bankex, were in the green, rising up to 1.61 per cent.
The NSE Nifty recaptured the key 10,800-level by rising 68.35 points, or 0.63 per cent, to 10,841.00.
Major gainers were Tata Steel, Vedanta, Yes Bank, Tata Motors, RIL, M&M , Asian Paints, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid, Coal India, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, L&T, SBI, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Infosys, gaining up to 1.85 per cent.
Investors are also looking forward to the quarterly results of IT majors TCS and Infosys that will kick-start the earnings season later this week.
TCS was trading lower by 1.28 per cent at Rs 1,888.80, while Infosys was up 0.62 per cent at Rs 1,292.40.
Asian shares rose tracking gains on Wall Street after the release of strong jobs data for June, which muffled the impact of an escalating US-China trade dispute.
Rupee rose by 30 paise to trade at 68.57 against the US dollar at the forex market, fuelling the uptrend in domestic equities.
Brokers said besides fresh buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs), a firm trend at other Asian markets influenced sentiments.
DIIs bought shares worth a net of Rs 1,480.82 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold equities to the tune of Rs 968.18 crore on Friday, provisional data showed.
Globally, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.61 per cent, Japan's Nikkei gained 3.11 per cent, while China's Shanghai Composite Index advanced 1.65 per cent.

Mumbai, Jul 5: Following the footsteps of urban bodies like Hyderabad and Pune, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) today listed its bonds on the debt market platform of the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
IMC is the civic governing body of the city of Indore, ranked as the cleanest city in the country.
Indore Municipal Corporation issued bonds aggregating Rs 100 crore with green shoe option of Rs 70 crore on June 29 and received an overwhelming response with an over-subscription of 1.26 times.
"We have plans to tap bond market for the development of infrastructure in the state. After successful bond issue of Indore Municipal Corporation, we are expecting at least three more issuances of municipal corporate bonds from MP in next 3 to 4 months, namely Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior," Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said after listing here.
Madhya Pradesh is home to large infrastructure projects and is fast becoming a hub for emerging listed corporates. Over 18 companies have been listed on the SME platform over the past two years. The Swachh Survekshan has declared Indore as the cleanest city of India in 2018.
Indore Municipal Corporation will be the third in the country to issue municipal bonds for implementation of the central government scheme, Amrut and Swacch Bharat Mission.

Capital goods, realty, infrastructure, power, healthcare and metal stocks showed weakness, falling by up to 0.35 per cent.
The NSE Nifty also was quoting lower by 5.20 points, or 0.05 per cent, at 10,735.90.
Major losers included Coal India, Reliance Industries, Asian Paints, SBI, Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank, Yes Bank, PowerGrid, Bajaj Auto, Maruti Suzuki and HDFC Bank, declining up to 1.40 per cent.

Meanwhile, India will raise customs duty on 29 products, including almond, walnut and pulses, imported from the US as a retaliatory action against the tariff hike by Washington.

Mumbai, Jun 15: The BSE Sensex recovered by over 66 points to 35,666.07 in opening trade today, aided by continuous buying by domestic investors amid mixed Asian cues.
The 30-share index advanced 66.25 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 35,666.07. It had lost 139.34 points in the previous session.
Sectoral indices such as healthcare, IT, teck, consumer durables, realty, metal and banking, ruled higher, rising by up to 0.96 per cent.
Similarly, the broader 50-share NSE Nifty moved up 15.75 points, or 0.14 per cent, at 10,823.80.
Unabated buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs) and scattered buying by retail investors helped trading sentiment, traders said.
DIIs bought equities worth Rs 576.19 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,372.84 crore yesterday, as per provisional data.
In the Sensex pack, Dr Reddy's, Sun Pharma, RIL, TCS, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Wipro, Tata Motors, Coal India and Axis Bank were the major gainers, advancing by up to 2.77 per cent.
In the Asian region, Japan's Nikkei was up 0.51 per cent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.05 per cent in early deals today. Shanghai Composite too was down by 1.02 per cent.

receding fears of a US-China trade war as the sensex jumped by 433.19 points to
33,452.26 points in early trade ahead of RBI Monetary policy today.
