LEH, AUGUST 30: A two-day training /workshop on “Updation of District Disaster Management Plan” under CSS on Sustainable Reduction in Disaster Risk begins in the DC Conference Hall Leh today. 
The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh Moses Kunzang chaired the first day training. The workshop is organised by Organized by IMPA, Srinagar. Dy SP SDRF Sonam Dorjey, Headquarter Assistant DC Office Leh, Mohd Sharif, Officer from Airforce Leh, HOSs and representatives from various departments, representatives from civil society, NGOs and Jawans of SDRF Leh attended the first day training.
Addressing the workshop, ADC, Leh Moses Kunzang appreciated IMPA, Srinagar headed by Dr G.M Dar Associate Professor Centre for Disaster Management & Environmental Studies (IMPA) for organizing this vital workshop at Leh and strongly urged upon the participants to take the workshop seriously as their valuable input and participation will prove very beneficial in updation of District Disaster Management Plan of Leh. 
 Sharing the experiences of 2010 flash flood and recent flash flood at Saboo village, ADC Leh said that such training/workshops on regular basis are very important to improve our disaster management plan.
Talking about the District Disaster Management Plan of Leh, ADC, Leh said that district administration Leh is conducting mock drills at district, sub-divisional and black levels time to time and said that Leh is the only district in J&K State which has permanent emergency operation centre situated in the office complex of the Council Secretariat and district administration is trying hard to equip this centre with all required facilities.

SRINAGAR, JULY 31: Commissioner Secretary Forest Ecology and Environment, Saurabh Bhagat, today inaugurated a training programme on Climate Change Adaptation in Jammu and Kashmir at IMPA Srinagar.
The four-day training programme is being organized by the State Climate Change Centre (SCCC-JK), Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing, in collaboration with the Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme (IHCAP), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and NABCONS. 
The Commissioner Secretary while speaking on the occasion said that this training will create a pool of trainers who will further train the mid, senior and field level officials in the districts. 
He said such training programmes, which involve Associate and Assistant Professors representing each district of the State and officers of nodal departments implementing the State Action Plan on Climate Change, shall establish an expert group which can eventually reduce the dependency of the State on consultants from outside. He underscored the need for use of science in policy, planning and decision making.
The Commissioner Secretary also informed the audience about the upcoming State Spatial Data Infrastructure (SSDI), updated Atlas of Lakes and Waterbodies of Kashmir Valley for preparing State Climate Change Perspective Report.
The training programme is being conducted with the help of internationally renowned experts in Climate Change including Prof. NH Ravindranath from Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development, IISc, Bangaluru, Prof. P. C. Tiwari from Kumaon University Nainital, Prof Naresh Kumar Soora from Climate Change and Crop and Environment Simulation Modelling, and Dr Sooraj Pandey from Centre for Environment Science and Climate Resilient Agriculture, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
Renowned experts from the Sate including Shakil A. Romshoo, Head, Earth Sciences Department, University of Kashmir, Prof. G M Dar, Head, Centre for Disaster Management and Environmental Studies, IMPA&RD, Prof. Akhlaq A. Wani, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Scientist, IMD Srinagar, and Majid Farooq, Coordinator State Climate Change Centre, J&K, also shared their expertise in the training programme. 
Some 50 participants from Higher Education department and State universities besides officers from JKEDA, Agriculture, IF&C, ULB, Health, Tourism and Disaster Management departments are partaking in the training programme.

BUDGAM, JULY 12: District Development Commissioner Budgam Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar today directed that sector wise disaster management plans for the better and prompt response towards different natural and man-made disasters be made.
These remarks were made by the DDC while chairing a meeting of District Disaster Management and Preparedness at New Conference Hall in Budgam.
Director Disaster Management, Aamir Ali, Director Metrological Department, Sonam Lotus, ADC Budgam Mohammad Farooq Dar, CMO Budgam, HoD Disaster Management IMPA Dr GM Dar, officers from various line departments and members and volunteers from SDRF attended the meeting.
Emphasizing on the foolproof readiness, the DDC directed all the concerned departments to submit list of their available resources and demands by July-23 with the objective to ensure prompt and effective response towards disasters to mitigate the loss of public life and property.
The DDC directed all the SDMs to conduct their zone wise mapping of the vulnerable areas and submit same by July-26.
She said that safety audit of all government buildings particularly schools and hospitals must be conducted on urgent basis, besides asked the concerned to ensure the identified relief and evacuation centers to be used as evacuation points in all vulnerable areas are safe and feasible.
The DDC also directed the concerned to take strenuous efforts to make the EOC centre stationed at Humhama functional for 24/7 for better communication and effective disaster management response.
Soon after the meeting, the volunteers from SDRF conducted a mock drill and briefed about functioning of various latest equipment and gadgets used during disasters.
The DDC urged the concerned to conduct mock drills in all schools of the district for mass awareness.
She also directed the concerned to nominate 4 officers from the district to participate in 4-day Disaster Management training to be held at IMPA Srinagar from July 23.
Meanwhile, Director Disaster Management Aamir Ali through a power point presentation spoke on state level and district level disaster management plan, mitigation, NDRF-SDRF relief norms and effective flood management initiatives taken by the department.

SRINAGAR, MAY 12: The Commissioner Food Safety, Dr Abdul Kabir today inaugurated a daylong programme to train officials for successful implementation of “Food safety Compliance through Regular Inspection and Sampling” (FoSCoRIS) at IMPA Srinagar.
The Deputy Commissioner Food Safety Kashmir Division along with the Designated Officers (Asstt. Commissioners) of all the districts of Kashmir Division and their respective Food Safety Officers participated in the training programme.
The training was imparted by Joint Director FSSAI, an expert on FoSCoRIS. During the training programme, the enforcement officers were trained regarding online inspection of the premises of Food Business Operators that will ensure time-bound and effective inspection and help in curbing the menace of food adulteration and also ensure strict compliance of FSS Act 2006.
Dr Kabir also conducted an interactive session with the Designated Officers wherein common issues and technical problems regarding the implementation of the FSSA Act were deliberated.
He reiterated that ‘for the safety of public health mass awareness of the Food Safety Culture is imperative and should be given prime importance along with enforcement of food safety regulations’. For this purpose, it was proposed that Food Safety Vans be used for awareness among Schools, Colleges and other social institutions.
On the eve of ensuing month of Holy Ramadan, the Commissioner directed the enforcement officers to be proactive and intensify random inspections to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.  
Food Business Operators were directed not to sell food items in open on roadside otherwise strict action shall be initiated against them for noncompliance and contravention under FSS Act 2006. Ganga hails Directors contribution towards promoting entrepreneurship culture in JK


JAMMU, MAR 02: Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute, today accorded an affectionate adieu to M I Parray, the Founder Director of JKEDI, on his retirement.
Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga, was present on the occasion.
Ganga hailed the services and efforts of Dr. Parray towards creating an entrepreneurial culture and promoting the entrepreneurship development in the state. He said Dr. Parray would be remembered for the services he has rendered and his contribution towards institution shall prove as a beacon light for others.   
Commissioner/Secretary Labour and Employment Department, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, while speaking on the occasion, described Dr. Parray as a good human being who made his mark by working hard towards economic progress of the State.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Parray expressed gratitude towards the support and cooperation he always received from the staff in achieving the set goals.
The JKEDI staff also shared their experiences of working under the leadership of Dr. M I Parray.
Pertinently, Dr Parray started his career in 1987 as an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Management and Public Administration (IMPA). In 2003, he was appointed as Director, JKEDI which started functioning from a small two-room office at IMPA Srinagar.
 Heads of various Institutes/Boards of the Industries and Commerce Department besides staff of JKEDI was present on the occasion.
