SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17: Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat, Chairperson, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (North Zone), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, met Governor  Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today and extended her compliments to Sh. Malik on his appointment as Governor of J&K.
 Dr. Bhat briefed Governor about functioning of the KVIC in the State and particularly about the promotion and implementation of programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas.
 Governor observed that the success of KVIC’s efforts would have the valuable consequences of generating capability and self-reliance amongst the poor contributing towards the establishment of a strong rural community.  Governor noted that besides popularising Khadi the Commission should look at various other possibilities of generating employment.

Mumbai, Aug 29 :  Clothing retailer Fabindia has informed the Bombay High Court that it does not intend to use the term 'khadi' for its products.
Fabindia submitted an undertaking on August 27 before a single bench of Justice S J Kathawalla which was hearing an application filed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The KVIC had approached the high court in June this year against Fabindia for illegally using its trademark "charkha" (spinning wheel) and selling the apparel with the khadi tag.

In its suit, the KVIC had sought damages to the tune of Rs 525 crore from Fabindia.

In a separate application, the KVIC had also sought an injunction order to be passed by the court, prohibiting Fabindia from using the term khadi to sell its products.

"Fabindia has filed a detailed affidavit challenging registration of the word 'khadi' by the KVIC. In the undertaking submitted on Monday, Fabindia has said that at present it does not intend to use the term for its products," the retailer's counsel, Janak Dwarkadas, said.

He said Fabindia would give the KVIC an advance notice of four weeks if the clothing retailer intends to use the term khadi to sell its products.

Justice Kathawalla accepted the undertaking and disposed of KVIC's application.

The court will hear on a later date the suit filed by KVIC seeking Rs 525 crore damages from Fabindia for monetary damages for loss of profit due to the clothing retailer using the khadi trademark.

The suit claims that Fabindia sells factory-made cotton garments under the guise of khadi (a hand-spun, hand-woven natural fibre cloth).

According to the suit, Fabindia continued to sell garments in the name and style of khadi, despite several correspondence sent to it by the KVIC and also a legal notice issued to it in February this year, asking it to refrain from doing so.PTI

Dr. Bhat briefed Governor about the functioning of the KVIC in the State and particularly about the promotion and implementation of programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas.
Appreciating the work being done by Dr. Bhat, Governor observed that the success of KVIC’s efforts would have the valuable consequences of generating capability and self-reliance amongst the poor contributing towards the establishment of a strong rural community.  Governor noted that besides popularising Khadi the Commission should look at various other possibilities of generating employment and commended Dr. Bhat’s initiative to promote skill upgradation opportunities to rural residents of Pampore, nearest to their homes.

KVIC distributes 2330 bee-boxes at Kupwara
KUPWARA, JUNE 12: Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta Tuesday said that apiary (beekeeping) sector has the potential to generate huge employment avenues for the youth of the state and the government has imitated various steps in this regard to provide the requisite fillip to the sector. 
The Deputy Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing a function organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) here today.
Gupta, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that the KVIC’s programmes could generate thousands of jobs in the valley, through Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ mission.
“This Honey Mission of KVIC will certainly script a new chapter of development in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
During the function, KVIC distributed 2330 bee-boxes in a single day, beating its previous best of 1000 bee-boxes, among 233 beneficiaries in association with Army’s Sadbhawna Programme in Kaziranga forest area among Mishing tribe. 
The initiative was taken under the guidance of KVIC Member North Zone Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat.
Legislator: Bashir Ahmad Dar, Yawar Dilawar Mir, GOC Vajra Division Kupwara Major General C. B Ponappa, DC Kupwara and other concerned officers and large number beekeepers were present on the occasion.
KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena, in his address, said that KVIC’s ‘Honey Mission’ is aimed to fulfill the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘Sweet Revolution’.
The KVIC made an action plan named ‘Honey Mission’ – with a target to distribute 1.3 lakh bee-boxes before November 2018 across the nation— in which so far 27,000 bee-boxes have already been distributed, he added. 

“As KVIC is also the nodal agency of Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), we will provide loans for setting up units of processing, bottling, packaging and labeling units for the honey,” Saxena said.

KVIC Member Dr Hina said that the programme was aimed to fulfill the mission of the Prime Minister, to provide jobs to the unemployed youths at their doorsteps.
Later, the Deputy Chief Minister also distributed certificates to trained bee-keepers.

LEH, SEPTEMBER 18: State-level Khadi exhibition organized by Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) in collaboration with Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) concluded today at Indoor Sports Stadium Leh in Ladakh region.
A valedictory function was held today in which Vice Chairman KVIB, Mansoor Soharwardhy was the Chief Guest, Member KVIC North-Zone, Hina Bhat was the Guest of Honour and Executive Councilor LAHDC-Leh, Dorfay Moutp presided over the function.
Among others, Secretary/CEO, KVIB and other functionaries of KVIB and other concerned were also present.
 The Vice Chairman visited various stalls which displayed a variety of Khadi items. He was informed that 50 stalls were installed during the exhibition and about Rs 50 lakh sale was registered which witnessed a great footfall of the locals and foreigners.
In the exhibition, unit holders from Kashmir Valley and few local entrepreneurs and Khadi Institutions also participated.
The Vice Chairman praised the KVIB for organizing such an event at Leh and desired that such events be organized in all the regions of the State to boost the sales and help the entrepreneurs/artisans to interact with the buyers directly.
He said such occasion also help in getting feedback from the buyers with regard to designing, product quality, etc to make the products more saleable and consumer attractive.
On the occasion, Hina Bhat impressed upon the DICs of KVIC and KVIB to work in synergy so that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are benefited by the schemes of the Government.

The Executive Councilor LAHDC -Leh appreciated the efforts of KVIB by organizing first ever State level Khadi exhibition at Leh.

New Delhi, Aug 19 :  President Ram Nath Kovind today visited the Apiary in the President’s Estate on the World Honey Bee Day. As a unique project, the Apiary was established, in the President’s Estate for the first time with the help of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as the government is promoting the ‘Honey Mission’ in the country. At present, 200 bee boxes have been set up which will increase to 500. The Apiary will produce high quality honey, wax and pollen as well as help increase flora, fauna in Rashtrapati Bhavan through pollination. UNI
