New Delhi, Jun 10 :  West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday amid incidents of political violence in the state over which the Home Ministry has issued an advisory to the state government.

Tripathi told reporters before the meeting that it was a courtesy call as he had not called on the prime minister since he took over for a second term.

The state's ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP have been trading charges over political violence in the state, with the TMC terming the MHA advisory as a conspiracy against its dispensation.

Kolkata, Jun 27 : West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi today said there is a growing demand for quality education and old institutions such as St James' School has the responsibility to meet the demand.

Tripathi, who was inaugurating a new junior block of the 154-year-old institution, said a school can nurture a child's talent in the most effective way.

The governor said the well-equipped junior block, with smart class rooms, swimming pool and sports complex, will result in the imparting of quality education to the students.

He said providing quality education, aimed for holistic development - for improving the body and mind of a child - should be the motto of every institution.

The governor said "Education is the fundamental right of every child - as every child has the right to learn."

Tripathi said with the strides made by India in different spheres including science, the entire world was now looking at the country and "we must meet the challenges".

Work began for the junior block in 2016 and the block was completed in two years.

Chairman, Board of Governors, Rev Ashoke Biswas said, the institution was set up to promote the cause of social, value-based education to nurture young minds and impart education freed from social and racial prejudices.

He said a solar project was slated to be implemented this year-end, to be followed by 'rain water harvesting.'

"These two essential projects will enable us for claiming the 'green construction' label," he said.   PTI



New Delhi, Jun 7: West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi was today given the additional charge of Tripura, according to a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The President of India is pleased to appoint Keshari Nath Tripathi to discharge the functions of the Governor of Tripura, in addition to his own duties, during the absence on leave of Tathagata Roy, Governor of Tripura, it said, without citing reasons for his leave.

Ranigunj/Asansol, Mar 31: West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi today arrived trouble-torn industrial town of West Burdwan district to take stock of the latest situation where widespread group clashes erupted early this week during Ram Navami processionon, leaving at least two people dead scores injured.
The Governor, who was received by the district magistrate - Shashank Seth - and local police commissioner Laxmi Narayan Meena, was given a a guard of honour at the '
circuit house before his meeting with top district officials, who are expected to brief him.
The Governor would also visit some pockets, where bloody violence was being
reported for the past few days in which many shops were plundered and set afire.
Those shops were also now being renovated by the local people together leaving bitter enmity behind.
Meanwhile, the overall situation in this coal belt town of Ranijung and Assansol was gradually limping back to normal with special armed combat forces continuing to route march all the sensitive pockets
even as Section 144 Cr PC continued to remain in force since Monday.
The security forces headed by three senior IPS officers - Siddh Nath Gupta - Jawed Shamin and Vineet Goel - while monitoring the overall situation - have asked the local people
to maintain peace and avoid unnecessary loitering on the streets.
The vehicular traffic was seen plying on the roads though markets and shop remained closed for precautionary measures.
The internet services continued to be out of reach as the local administration banned
internet services up to April 4.
The administration for now banned all sorts of political meeting and assembly of people, though some leaders from the Congress, Left parties, and BJP are expected to arrive on their own to take stock of the situation.
BJPs national president Amit Shah constituted a four-member party's parliamentary committee to visit Ranigunj and Asansol and report to him.
