RAMBAN, JULY 12: Department of Agriculture today organised one day Block level Kissan Mela at Ghandhri block.
More than 100   farmers   were made aware about various flagship programmes and key projects of the department with the aim to double the farmers’ income by 2022.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), K.K.Gupta informed  the farmers  that under PMKSY launched in 2015-16  , water harvesting structures, water lifting irrigation sets, HDPE pipes on subsidised rates are provided  to the farmers with the aim to provide irrigation benefits by ensuring  ‘ Har Khet ko Pani ‘ and ‘Per Drop More Crop’ .
He further informed about benefits of Kissan Credit Card Scheme and Soil Health Card scheme and asked  farmers to avail soil testing from district soil testing laboratory which is free of cost.
During the camp, farmers raised various issues regarding availability of farm machineries, Loan disbursement from various Banks, quality seed and fertilizers with timely availability of the same. 
Meanwhile Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Madan Gopal Singh highlighted the   flagship programmes like PMKSY, Soil Health Card Scheme and PMFBY and stressed upon the farmers to cover Maize, Paddy and Wheat crops under the crop insurance Scheme. He apprised that Maize and wheat crops are covered with the sum insured of Rs. 80000/- per Ha and Paddy Rs. 100000/- per Ha   with the indemnity level up to 25-90%. Also, farmers have to pay only 2% as a premium in case of Maize or Paddy and 1.5% in case of wheat crop.
During the programme a detailed information regarding organic farming and Mushroom Cultivation alongwith discussion on organic project at Panchayat Kabbi, Mushroom cultivation of both Dhingri and white Button Mushroom was provided to the farmers.
It was also given out that department will provide pasteurized compost for growing white Button Mushroom from this season which will reduce the labour cost and time duration to grow the mushroom crop.
Agriculture Extension Officer Ramban, Umesh Gupta, Agriculture Extension Officer Chanderkote, Anil Peer and Agriculture Extension Assistant, Jagdish Singh Bali and Surinder Singh were the resource persons of the programme.

ANANTNAG, JUNE 07: A Kisan Mela cum Wheat Field Day was organised by Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops Khudwani of Sher – e – Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST - K) today at Khudwani, in order to provide awareness to the farmers regarding the cultivation of various kinds of Wheat varieties, being researched about and developed at this centre. The experts shared their experience and expertise regarding the latest techniques of different crop farming with the farmers
On the occasion, Member of Parliament, Nazir Ahmad Laway was the Chief Guest while as Member Assembly Homeshalibugh, Advocate Ab Majeed Larmi was the guest of honour.  
Among others present on the occasion include the ADDC Kulgam Khawaja Nazir Ahmad, Director Extension SKUAST – K,  Professor Mushtaq Ahmad, Director Research SKUAST – K,  M Y Zargar, Associate Director Research Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops Khudwani, Professor G A Parrey, besides other researchers and a good number of progressive farmers
Professor G A Parrey welcomed the guests and detailed about the progress of the research centre, while as Dr Najeeb – ul -  Rehman presented the vote of thanks.   
Speaking on the occasion, Member Parliament Nazir Ahmad Laway said that need of the hour is to create new and quality varieties of all the crops including in the horticulture sector so that our farmers get a better yield and our economy gets a boost. He added that nature has bestowed Kashmir with the best climate for the cultivation of all kinds of crops but the need of the hour is to provide awareness and proper training to the farmers for cultivating such crops. The MP further said that government is very keen in developing both the Agriculture and Horticulture sectors of the state and assured all possible help to the concerned research centre for creating mass awareness regarding wheat and other crop cultivation on modern lines.  
 Member Assembly Homeshalibugh, Advocate Ab Majeed Larmi, on the occasion stressed upon the need to create coordination between the scientists of the SKUAST – A and the farmers for better results and field implementation of the research for the benefit of the farmers.  He added that regular awareness camps should be organised at village level so that benefit of the research goes directly to the farmers. He further said that construction on agricultural land should be totally stopped so that we can have land available for agricultural activities in future too.
ADDC Kulgam, Director Extension SKUAST - A and Director Research SKUAST – A  also spoke on the occasion and shared their views and experience regarding the cultivation of new and disease resistant varieties of wheat and other crops.

Inaugurates Kisan Mela at Doda, conducts field visit at Bhaderwah 
DODA, MARCH 27: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today concluded three day tour of Chenab valley including Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar areas wherein he took stock of various activities being carried out by Agriculture, Sericulture and Command Area Development (CAD) departments in the region.
During his tour, the Minister inspected various developmental works  undertaken under various sectors and interacted with the locals to take their input on ways to further improve the functioning of these departments at ground level.
The Minister asked officers of Agriculture and its allied departments to put in their best efforts so that maximum benefit can be effectively extended to and availed by people under various Centrally Sponsored and State Sector schemes.
On the last day of his tour, the Minister inaugurated Kisan Mela cum Agricultural Exhibition at Doda and conducted field visit at Bhaderwah.
MLA Doda Shakti Raj Parihar, Deputy Commissioner Doda, Director Agriculture Jammu, senior officers of Agriculture, Sericulture, Command Area and other departments besides farmers of the area were present on the occasion.
At the Kisan mela, various departments established their stalls and displayed their products. The representatives from Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, Horticulture, Agriculture, Sericulture, Handicraft, Handloom and Social Welfare departments interacted with youth and informed them about various Government schemes available for the public and detailed their benefits for the locals.
The Minister while speaking on the occasion, said that by launching massive awareness about these schemes and programmes at district, block and panchayat levels, farmers are switching over to new farm machinery, hybrid seeds, organic farming and other agriculture inputs which is leading to increase in productivity.
The Minister highlighted various pro farmer initiatives taken by the Government in agriculture and allied sectors. He also gave a detailed brief about benefits that can be availed under recently launched social security schemes by the State and central Governments.
Several deputations also met the Minister at Baderwah and apprised him of their problems. The Minister gave them a patient hearing and assured that their genuine demands shall be considered on priority. The Minister, in some cases, also gave on spot directions to the concerned for immediate redressal.
Later, the Minister also convened a meeting with officers of Agriculture Department at Kishtwar and reviewed overall performance of the department.

Mir Zahoor stresses youth to opt for sheep farming as viable source for creating employment avenues
BUDGAM, MARCH 17: Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli Saturday said that the Government is committed to turn barren land into pastures for creating more grazing fields for progressive sheep breeding in Kashmir.
The Minister made these remarks, after inaugurating a ‘Kisan Mela’ organized by District Sheep Husbandry department Budgam at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall in Budgam.
Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Animal, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, Forest and Cooperatives Mir Zahoor Ahmad was also present on the occasion.
The Minister lamented on the decreasing graph of grazing land which he termed as one of the reasons for slow growth of sheep population in the Valley.
He said that all efforts are being taken to turn barren land into the grazing land by growing grass on it for sheep breeders.
By growing grass on the barren land would help in curbing the dearth of feeding resources for the breeders particularly during winters.
The Minister said that the prevailing situation in Kashmir has also affected the sheep population as grazing of sheep in deep jungles had become difficult for the villagers.
He said that with the help of new technologies, grass would be also grown in areas which are hit with dearth of water or due to dry weather.
Meanwhile, the Minister said that the Valley has been successful in producing 80 different breeds of the sheep and has distinction of producing best wool in the country. He also said that with the help of cross breeding techniques, the department has been successful in producing quality sheep.
MoS Mir Zahoor in his speech deliberated on various state and centrally sponsored schemes launched for the promotion of sheep breeding sector in the state. 
He said that the sector has huge potential to sustain economy and stressed on youth to opt for sheep farming as viable source for creating employment avenues for themselves and others in the Valley.
He said that not only J&K was huge market for the mutton consumption but also best place for the sheep farming for its rich green topography. “Besides, government has also started training programmes and provide loans through various banks to the educated youth, who can avail all such facilities to start sheep farming in the state,” he said.
District Development Commissioner Budgam, Mohammad Harun Malik, Director Sheep Husbandry Dr Mohammad Ramzan also spoke on the occasion and urged educated youth to start sheep farming instead of running government jobs for their better progress and economic sustenance.
District Sheep Husbandry officer, in his welcome address while deliberating on the achievements of the department in the district in past many years, said that the population of sheep as well as farmers were increasing with support of department. 
The Department also conducted a livestock show and provided daylong training to scores of sheep breeders who attended the function.
District Sheep Husbandry Office Budgam also distributed prizes among the breeders for their unique breed farming in the district.
