Moga, Jun 12: A farmer from Punjab's Moga district was today booked for flouting the state government's advisory against transplanting paddy saplings before June 20 to save depleting water table, police said.
Gurmeet Singh, the former village head of Sekhan Kalan village was found to have sown the paddy in his fields by officials of the district agricultural department and the police.
He was booked for violating the state government direction, police said. 
Several farmers came out in protest of the police action. The farmer was not arrested, police said.

Moga ,Mar 31: With an objective to raise its capacity to 3000 TCD with 17 MW co-generation plant, a special project to modernize and expand the oldest sugar mill in cooperative sector at bhogpur here is underway at a total cost of Rs 109 crore.
This was stated here on Saturday by Manpreet Singh Badal finance minister. 
"An additional amount of Rs 31.31 crore has been provided in the state budget 2018-2019 for this purpose and efforts will also be made to modernize and upgrading of the cooperative sugar mill at Batala ", Mr Badal added.
In order to provide transparency and bring in efficiency at the cutting edge , the finance minister added that all the 3,537 Primary agriculture cooperative societies will also be computerized at an outlay of Rs 45,50 cr approximately as provided in the budget. UNI


Moga, Jan 17: Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal claimed that Punjab would produce record production of cotton and this had led to Rupees 15,000 crore additional financial infusions in the state economy.
Manpreet Badal said here today during his brief stopover said here today that state government have announced number of projects for the development of Shri Mukatsar Sahib. 
He said that construction of railway over bridge would start soon on the Jlalabad road which was pending since its in inauguration by the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.
He also said that the Punjab has the record production of cotton and this had led to rupees 15,000 crore additional financial infusions in the state economy, which the Akalis had destroyed with their policies. He also referred to the Rupees 31,000 crore food credit amount taken by the Akalies, who even got loans against future income of Mandi Board.
FM also stated that government was doing its best to bring the economy of the state back on track. He also claimed that from the 4th budget onwards the sate government would become revenue-surplus. UNI 


Moga Aug 28 :  Taking no chance of any violence following the announcement of quantum of sentence in the rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim, the district administration has decided to impose curfew in the sensitive towns of the district -- Moga and Bhagapurana. This was stated here today by the district police chief Raj Jit Singh. He said that Punjab Police personnel will continue to stand guard in the district to maintained law and order at all cost. The SSP also said that the administration was taking all precaution to maintained law & order in the district. He said that the police has arrested so for three persons belonging to the Dera and four in violation of the orders of the district magistrate under section 188 CRPC. According to anther information the DGP law & order, Hardeep Singh Dhillon, has directed all the district police chiefs to take all possible steps if there was any violence following the announcement of quantum sentence in the rape case against Dera Sacha Sudha chief. The district magistrate Faridkot also orders continuing of curfew in municipal area of Faridkot till further orders. The district magistrate Shri Mukatsar sahib also announced at Shri Mukatsar sahib that curfew would be imposed in Malout town of the district after 1 PM for indefinite period. UNI


Moga, Aug 26: Curfew was lifted from Malout town and relaxed in other areas of Punjab today to enable residents to buy essential commodities. In Moga, situation is under control and not a single incident of violence occurred during the last 24 hours. The indefinite curfew, which was imposed last night at 2100 hrs, was relaxed for one hour (from 1000 hrs-1100 hrs.) Keeping in view, the incidents of violence in Panchkula yesterday, the district administration has also kept the Army on standby. After holding a meeting with paramilitary officials and reviewing the situation, District Magistrate Dilraj Singh Sandhawalia said that situation in the district is under control and the administration was determined to maintain law and order at all costs. In Faridkot district, law and order situation was tense but under control. Indefinite curfew was imposed in the district last night after followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, agitated over his conviction in a rape case, set ablaze of Seva Kendra in rural area. The district administration has withdrawn the curfew this morning. In Mukatsar district, law and order situation was completely under control and not a single incident of violence was reported. The curfew was imposed in Malout town of the district at 2000 hrs yesterday when some agitated followers tried to set Malout town afire. The district administration has withdrawn the curfew at 0600 hrs today. UNI

Moga, Aug 25: Over 600 followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh known as 'Premis' gathered in a 'Naam Charcha Ghar' of Moga, where they prayed for his good health and release from the Panchkula CBI Court. The CBI court is set to deliver verdict in a rape case against Dera chief. Large number of Dera followers also gathered at Slabatpura near Nihal Singh Wala of Bathinda district. One of the followers of the Dera chief said, 'anything can happen' if their spiritual leader is indicted. Meanwhile, the district administration again searched the 'Naam Charcha Ghar' of Moga district but nothing of criminal nature was found. Patrolling has been intensified in the district and the Punjab Police and security forces took out a flag march to instill a sense of security among the citizens. UNI
