Panchkula, Jan 11 : A CBI court Friday held Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and three others guilty of murdering journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati in 2002.

All the four accused have been convicted, CBI counsel HPS Verma told PTI after special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced the verdict here.

The sentence will be pronounced on January 17.

The three others accused are Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal.

The 51-year-old sect head appeared before the court through video conferencing from Rohtak's Sunaria jail.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is currently serving a 20-year prison term in jail for raping two of his followers.

Chhatrapati was shot in October 2002 outside his house after his newspaper 'Poora Sach' published an anonymous letter narrating how women were being sexually exploited by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa.

The case was registered in 2003 and handed over to the CBI in 2006.

Ram Rahim was named the main conspirator in the case.                PTI


Panchkula, Jan 11: A local court on Thursday deferred the framing of charges against Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of jailed Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, and others in connection with the Panchkula violence to February 21.
Haryana Police produced Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja and 14 other accused in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Neerja Kulwant Kalson. 
The court deferred the framing of charges after Honeypreet's advocate argued that they were not provided a complete copy of the charge sheet. 
According to the police charge sheet, Honeypreet and the 45-member dera management committee had hatched the conspiracy to spread violence in Panchkula and Sirsa following the conviction of Dera chief in two rape cases on August 25. Around 40 people had lost their lives and more than 200 others were injured in the violence.
Honeypreet is presently in judicial remand at the Ambala central jail. UNI 


Baghpat, Aug 29 :  District authorities have fully vacated the Barnawa ashram of Dera Saccha Sauda here, soon after the Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had been convicted. Though the entire 750 bigha large ashram was vacated last night itself, some sevadars have been allowed to stay inside to take care of the cows and agriculture field. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ajay Kumar said today the Barnawa Ashram of Dera Saccha Sauda is the second largest ashram of the Dera after Sirsa in Haryana. He said after the chief of the Dera, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had been convicted on Friday last, several devotees came here to stay but they were sent to their homes and now just around 20 sevadars are left to take care of the cows and agriculture fields. However, a strong contingent of police has been deployed at the ashram. The ASP said all the sevadars have been issued photo identity cards so that no one other than the sevadar enter the ashram. The ashram is situated on the Meerut-Baraut Highway where there are large plantations of different fruits and vegetables. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh used to address his devotees in this ashram on first Sunday of every month and generally attended by people from Haryana, Delhi and other districts of UP. Though in the past the villagers of the nearby areas protested against some suspicious activities inside the ashram. A few years back an under construction building inside the ashram had collapsed in which several labourers were killed. But the ashram authorities had covered up the issue. UNI 



Rohtak, Aug 28 :  A CBI court, headed by Special Judge Jagdeep Singh, today awarded ten years' imprisonment to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who was convicted of rape on August 25. The court proceedings began at 1430 hrs. The CBI judge allotted 10 minutes to each side to put forth their arguments. While prosecution demanded maximum punishment for Singh, counsel for the Dera chief argued that sect head was a social worker and has worked for welfare of people, so the court should take a lenient view when awarding the quantum of sentence. Earlier, the judge was flown in a helicopter into the special courtroom set up inside the Sunaria jail. UNI

New Delhi, Aug 28 :  Home Minister Rajnath Singh today chaired a high-level meeting ahead of the CBI court in Rohtak pronouncing quantum of punishment to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim who was convicted of rape on Friday. Lakhs of followers of the controversial self-styled godman had went on rampage across Haryana after the court in Panchkula delivered the judgement, leading to deployment of the Army to control the violence, in which over 30 people had been killed. The sentencing is expected at 1430 hrs. The Army has also surrounded the Dera premises in Sirsa town of the state. Meanwhile, a senior Home official said here that the Haryana DGP had assured the Centre that the situation was under control and all security arrangements had been made. The Army has been conducting flag marches to instill confidence among the citizens and deter miscreants. Meanwhwile, close watch is also being kept on the situation in the national capital which had witnessed some incidents of arson following Friday’s development in Haryana. UNI 


Moga, Aug 25 : Over 600 followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh known as 'Premis' gathered in a 'Naam Charcha Ghar' of Moga, where they prayed for his good health and release from the Panchkula CBI Court. The CBI court is set to deliver verdict in a rape case against Dera chief. Large number of Dera followers also gathered at Slabatpura near Nihal Singh Wala of Bathinda district. One of the followers of the Dera chief said, 'anything can happen' if their spiritual leader is indicted. Meanwhile, the district administration again searched the 'Naam Charcha Ghar' of Moga district but nothing of criminal nature was found. Patrolling has been intensified in the district and the Punjab Police and security forces took out a flag march to instill a sense of security among the citizens. UNI


Kaithal, Aug 22 : Prohibitory orders have been imposed by District Magistrate Sunita Verma in this district of Haryana to maintain peace and tranquility on account of the decision in Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s case by CBI court in Panchkula on August 25. Ms Verma prohibited the assembly of five or more persons in all parts of the district except on specified places and also selling of loose petroleum products except to vehicles under section 144 of CrPC . Under these orders, assembly of five or more persons near passages, railway tracks, water channel, power houses and blocking of roads, indulging in unlawful activities, carrying of any weapon like firearms, sword, knives and other weapons of offence have been prohibited. The ban orders on selling petroleum products have been imposed apprehending use of these petroleum products as weapon or for burning properties, All the license holders of the district under Arms Act 1959 have been directed to deposit their firearms and ammunition with there respective police stations or with the nearest fire arms dealers up to August 23.
